Mix and Match II

When I design new products, I am always thinking about how they can be used to create layers and  dimension - which to me are hallmarks of mixed media. I also try to develop my collections so that they work with each other. As new lines are released, I want you to be able to integrate them into the supplies you already own.

With that in mind, my new collection with PaperArtsy was designed and engineered to work seamlessly with some of my stencils previously released by StencilGirl Products. There two companies were on board and I cannot thank them enough for coming from a place where different companies can actually support each other rather than compete as adversaries. Good people!

These are my new stamps and Wood Chips from PaperArtsy. You can easily see how they work together...

Here are my Insider and Outsider stencil from StencilGirl.

Both collections. Same sizes. Same shapes: square, circle, star, tag and bar. The layers you can create by intermixing all of these products is exponential.
With that in mind, I asked several of my favorite artists to play with all of these products and make magic. Each created two projects and have shared their step-by-step process on their blogs. Today I am highlighting the incredible creations of Gwen Lafleur. Yesterday I shared the wonderful work of Martice Smith II.
GWEN LAFLEUR
Gwen had attended my Library of Memories workshop at Art is You Stamford in 2015. There we made a hinged-panel container embellished with assemblage that served as storage for a handmade book. I was excited to see that she used my PaperArtsy and StencilGirl products to create a new Library of Memories here.
This is the outside of her closed container. Looking closely, you can see my Wood Chip circle, Outsider star stencil, and several star rubber stamps. And a whole lot of other amazingness.

Open the container and you will find more goodness, with an assemblage embedded within the left panel and a handmade book nested inside the right.

Here are the two pieces separated. You might also notice my Drip Drop die from Spellbinders layered on the book cover. Many of my Spellbinders die cuts are also sized to worked seamlessly with all the new products.

I love looking at this angle of Gwen's handmade book.

The inside pages of the book are filled edge to edge with stencil, stamp and Wood Chip layers.

I was also pleased to see that Gwen chose to use many words and design elements from my other stencils from StencilGirl as well.

You can head over to Gwen's post to see many more images. Head over to my online shop to purchase the stencilsstamps and Wood Chips that were used in these artworks. They are available now.

Join me tomorrow to see what Gwen Lafleur made.
Martice Smith II
Martice created this wall hanging that served the dual purpose of not only looking amazing but also concealing a secret.

As you can see in the next photo, part of the hanging is hinged - revealing what is at first glance concealed to the eye. I absolutely love art that is interactive because it invites the viewer to become one with the art.

And look at this detail shot of the piece in progress...oh...the texture! And you can see how the Wood Chip and both the Insider and Outsider circle stencils layer so well together.

Martice also created collaged tiles using my stamps, stencils and Wood Chips. You can easily see in this picture how all the shapes work well together.

I am loving the layers she used for these tiles: wood, paper, paint, wood stain, modeling paste. stamps, stencils and Wood Chips.

And there is that texture again...

You can head over to this post on StencilGirl Talk to see many more images and a complete tutorial. Head over to my online shop to purchase the stencils, stamps and Wood Chips that were used in these artworks. They are available now.

New Spellbinders Dies

Every January, timed to coincide with Creativation - the annual trade show of the Craft & Hobby Association (CHA) - new products are released from art and craft companies. It is both thrilling and humbling for me to be part of this tidal wave of creativity. This year, I have releases with 4 companies and today I want to share my new dies with Spellbinders.

My collection of dies are abstract and not shaped like any obvious object, as is more typical of many dies on the market. It is important to me that you as the artist are able to make all my products your own and use them in ways that reflect your individual style. Two different artists can use the same die cut in this collection...and nobody would ever know.

TRIFECTA

DRIP DRY

BROKEN MAZE

SHIELD

LOOP DE LOOP

STEERING WHEEL

RAY OF LIGHT

The items in this collection will not be available for purchase until March 2017. In the mean time, you can check out my earlier collections of Spellbinders dies here.

PaperArtsy New Paint Colors

Every January, timed to coincide with Creativation - the annual trade show of the Craft & Hobby Association (CHA) - new products are released from art and craft companies. It is both thrilling and humbling for me to be part of this tidal wave of creativity. This year, I have releases with 4 companies and today I want to share my new paint set with PaperArtsy.

My newest collection of colors includes:
Smoked Paprika: a warm, translucent spicy orange
Green Patina: semi-opaque, exactly the color that copper becomes once it has aged
Mud Splat: a cool opaque brown that makes a great, rich first layer
Key Lime: a light, semi-opaque yellow with lime green tones
This paint is a Fresco Finish Chalk Acrylic and currently comes in a range of 100+ colors. It has a matte finish, dries extremely fast, and - perhaps best of all - will not destroy any pen/marker you choose to use to make marks on it. The paints in the line range in opacity and are labeled as opaque, semi-opaque, or translucent.
The new colors work well with my first release of paint colors, initially slated to be a limited edition but not part of the permanent range of available colors.

The 2 sets from my collection, plus a limited line of my favorites of the other PaperArtsy colors, are available for purchase in my website shop. They will soon be available from PaperArtsy, a UK-based company and other online and brick and mortar retailers.

New Stencils: Alphanumeric Drips

Thrilled to be sharing with you my newest releases from StencilGirl Products. If you have seen any of my earlier stencil designs, you know that I love text. All of my journal pages and the majority of my mixed media work include words.

I thought it was time to design an alphabet stencil for more flexibility. Now in addition to the specific words on my previous stencils, you and I can both make any word at all. What sets this design apart from other alphabet stencils is the font. It is urban, grungy and very drippy. And you know how much I like my drips. I have also included strips of grungy design elements that can be used for borders, detail work or mark making.
Alpha Drips

And what is an alphabet font without numbers? And some random grungy circles thrown in too?
Number Drips

My new stencils, along with my 25 previously released designs, are available now in my website shop, at StencilGirl Products, and at other retailers and online sites.

PaperArtsy Stamp Sets & Wood Chips

Every January, timed to coincide with Creativation - the annual trade show of the Craft & Hobby Association (CHA) - new products are released from art and craft companies. It is both thrilling and humbling for me to be part of this tidal wave of creativity. This year, I have releases with four companies and today I want to share some of my new releases with PaperArtsy.

Check out my new products in this video and in the post below...

I am excited to be releasing two new stamp sets and a completely new product for me: Wood Chips. Each of these new products were designed to work together. They also coordinate perfectly with my Insider/Outsider stencils from StencilGirl Products. And, they mix and match with many of my die designs from Spellbinders.

Now on to the new items. The two new stamp sets each consist of 5, deeply-etched, red rubber cling stamps in the shape of a tag, square, star, circle and bar.

Eclectica 3 features grungy design elements

Eclectica 4 features text

Each of these stamp sets are sized perfectly to stamp onto my new Wood Chips, which come in the same set of shapes as the stamps. And not only do you get five different shapes in the set, you also get a frame in every shape as well. The shapes nest inside a wooden template which can also work as a stencil.

They all have irregular edges to make them more...well...edgy. These lightweight, wood elements are perfect to add depth, dimension and a unique touch to all your projects. They take paint and ink very well.
My new releases are being featured today on the PaperArtsy blog. Head over there to see artwork using these products from...

Nikki Acton

Hazel Agnew

and step-out tutorials for two pieces that I have made

#ARTifacts: Exhibit One

Artifacts (plural noun): objects made by a human being, typically an item of cultural or historical interest.
ARTifacts (plural noun): a collaborative project for 2017 documenting adventures in art.

Two weeks ago I posted info about a new, year long collaborative project that I am calling #ARTifacts. Here is the (edited) brief I presented:

Every year I have so many "art memories" from my travels, my teaching, my adventures in NYC, and my studio work. I have decided that 2017 will be the year of ARTifacts where I document my adventures in art for the entire year in a physical book.

I would love to have you join me. This would be a no rules collaboration. Just find or make some sort of artist book, planner, scrapbook, 3-ring-binder, folder, or other container to document your creative experiences, whether they be in art, craft, or anything else. Then get to documenting in any way to style that works for you.

I had a good number of people express interest in joining. And an equal number of people asking what exactly the project is. I was purposely vague because I wanted it to be a reflection of you. For me, I am looking at this project as an artful way of keeping track of my daily life as an artist. A dossier or scrapbook of sorts that is filled with words and images that document the creative part of my life.

Since a picture speaks a thousand words, here are some shots of my pages from the first two weeks of 2017. This should give you a good idea of the direction I am taking.

No rules though. If you decide to join, create your book in any form and any style. Anything goes.
My plan is to have participants share their work on their own social media sites and to send pictures of their book and pages to me periodically so that I can share them on mine. At the end of 2017, I would then host an online exhibition of the work that we all created.
If you are in, please send an email so I can keep track of the players and send out updates to everyone. And send me pictures of your #ARTifacts anytime!
