Take my Pulse Giveaway
Five years ago today my first book, The Pulse of Mixed Media, was released by North Light Books. It is a thrill that I will always remember.
This book is a testament to the power of the Internet. After hosting a large, online collaborative project called The Pulse for 3+ years, I received an email from Tonia Jenny, an acquisitions editor at North Light, asking if I would consider turning the project into a book. Oh that would be a yes.
The Pulse of Mixed Media is not a traditional how-to book. Rather, it focuses on the creativity that is the hallmark of every artist. 31 spotlight artists and 103 additional contributors answer questions about their art process, goals, fears, experiences, etc. The spotlight artists share self portraits and artwork based on prompts. Results from a larger survey of the online art community are also included. The level of intimate sharing that occurred in this book still blows me away.
So much has transpired since the book was released in terms of my life in art, but this book is definitely a highlight. I connected with a wonderful group of artists who are represented in this book. I experienced the thrill of an old fashioned book tour that took me from New York to Colorado to Vancouver Canada and many spots in between.
I spent time on Amazon, checking the ever-changing ranking and was over the moon when I got my first 5-star review and just bit under when my first 1-star review came through. And I got to see my book in Barnes and Noble for the first time. Think I look happy?
The video below includes excerpts from a panel discussion sponsored by the Ink Pad and held in March 2012 in NYC. Contributing artists Karen Cole, Jill Zaheer, Roxanne Evans Stout, Julie Prichard, Michelle Ward and Danny Gregory made up the panel.
---------------------GIVEAWAY
To celebrate my 5-year anniversary, I am giving away 5 signs copies of the book. Simply leave a comment to this blog post and make sure I have a way of contacting you. Internationals are eligible of course. Comments close end of day Sunday March 5.
If you cannot wait till then, you can purchase a signed copy here.

Demo and New Release Videos
At both Creativation and Stitches, two trade shows I recently attended, I spent a good amount of time demoing my newly released products. Most were live for the attendees only but a number were caught on tape.
This is a 20+ minute demo at Spellbinders, also at Creativation, showing techniques ranging from background painting, monoprinting, stamping, stenciling, die cutting, mark making and more.
Here is a 30+ minute demo from Creativation on Periscope taken at the PaperArtsy booth. It focuses on making backgrounds using layers of paints and stamps, creating depth and dimension using opaque and translucent paints, painting and stamping my new Wood Chips as a focal embellishment, mark making and adding borders.
Here is a link to my 35+ minute demo on Periscope filmed at the PaperArtsy booth at Stitches by the PaperArtsy crew. It highlights a technique making rust and patina using my PaperArtsy paint, painting and monoprinting backgrounds, stamping, using my new Wood Chips, and layering.
-----------------------------
Here is a short 5+ minute video behind the scenes at my workshop at Creativation. It was a modified version of my 52 Card Pickup class. Look closely and you will see Mary Beth Shaw from Stencilgirl pop up a few times.
-----------------------------
A number of videos were also recorded by others that share some of my newest releases.
Thanks a million to Marjie Kemper, who should have her own art and craft channel, for highlighting my Spellbinders booth at Creativation.
A huge thank you to Leandra Franich, who along with her husband Mark own and run PaperArtsy, for creating this video to showcase all of my new products with the company.

It's a Revolution
Happy to be the guest artist today on StencilGirl Talk -- the blog for StencilGirl Products.
Sharing there my process for using stencils to build layers.
Start with my Outsiders stencils - five edgy frames in the shape of a circle, square, star, tag and bar.
Continue with my Insiders stencils - the same five shapes designed to fit perfectly inside the Outsider frames.
Add them together to get mixed media magic.
And who said math couldn't be fun?!?!
Check out my guest post here.
