How to Get Creative

Earlier this month I was a guest on Creative Chat with Barb Owen, the brains behind the site How to Get Creative. Barb interviewed me and we spoke about my (lack of) interest in art growing up, my current inspirations, my five favorite art supplies, True Colors (the book that started it all), the impact of NYC on my art, and so much more. Barbara also demonstrated some of my techniques on the video after the interview was complete. It's a long one but you can check it out below...

ArtJam 2017

I am thrilled to be an exhibiting artist at ArtJam 2017 running from May 19 to June 6 in Princeton, New Jersey. This 7th annual art exhibit and sale brings together established and emerging artists with clients (all of whom have experienced homelessness) from HomeFront NJ, an organization focused on ending homelessness in the central New Jersey region.
50% of all sales go directly to Artspace, the studio space in HomeFront's Family Preservation Center, dedicated to an innovative therapeutic art program.
Please contact me if you are interested in purchasing any of the pieces I am exhibiting and supporting an important cause at the same time.

Nails in the Wall

Excited to have three pieces of art included in an exhibition at Nails in the Wall Gallery in Metuchen, New Jersey. The gallery is part of St. Lukes Episcopal Church and presents two shows per year, each running nearly six months in length.

This show, Beautiful & Powerful Statements, consists of work with a focus on either repurposed materials, calligraphic art, or both. Although it opened on January 28, I have not been able to visit the exhibition until this week. I was thrilled to finally be able to see all the work and happy to find many mixed media works included.

My three pieces...

The show runs through May 31 if you happen to be in the neighborhood.

New Stamp Release

I always love the days when I get to announce a new product release...and today is no exception. I am excited to share the news that Impression Obsession has just released two new sets of my rubber stamp designs.

Planetarium

Made in the USA from deeply etched red rubber, these stamps are available in cling sets from my online shop. You can purchase them in cling sets or as cling or wood mounted individual stamps from the Impression Obsession website and from online and local shops near you. Cannot wait to see what you all create with these!

Use Your Voice

Always happy to be a guest blogger on the PaperArtsy blog. Today the theme is 3D art and assemblage and I am sharing a small piece that I made using my Wood Chips. Read all about it, see the ingredients, and see many more pics here.

#ARTifacts: March 2017

Artifacts (plural noun): objects made by a human being, typically an item of cultural or historical interest.
ARTifacts (plural noun): a collaborative project for 2017 documenting adventures in art.

Every year I have so many "art memories" from my travels, my teaching, my adventures in NYC, and my studio work. I have decided that 2017 will be the year of ARTifacts where I document my adventures in art for the entire year in a physical book. Always wanting to be inclusive, I turned my project into a no-rules collaboration.

Participants were asked to find or make some sort of artist book, planner, scrapbook, 3-ring-binder, folder, or other container to document their creative experiences, whether they be in art, craft, or anything else.  As you can see below, each and every participant put their own creative twist on this project. And it is never too late to join. Email me at shap97@gmail.com if you would like to participate.

ArtExpo 2017 Review

Thrilled to have exhibited at ArtExpo New York for the third time.

Now in its 39th year, this annual art fair takes place on Pier 94 in NYC, a huge space that held 400+ booths.

Set up day is always exciting. The whole show and all its possibilities are ahead of you.

It is also a bit overwhelming as you have to set up the booth

With a bit of time, some nails and perhaps a little magic...voila!

Of course there is the obligatory artist in the booth shot.

Happily as the days passed, some red dots appeared.

Saw some exhibitors I knew and met new ones as well.

And spent many hours connecting with the other artists in my row.

I made a number of connections that I am hopeful will lead to some future opportunities. And some of my favorites now have a new home.

I will slowly be adding some of the unsold pieces to my online shop. Right now, click here to browse all the 4"x4" pieces available.

Until next year......
