The Week Links: saying goodbye
For the last 127 weeks, I have shared 7 of my favorite online finds every Sunday in The Week Links.
Doing the math, that is 889 links. Have you seen them all? If not, you can find them all be here.
Feeling the need to scratch a different itch, the time has come to lower the lights on The Week Links. And while they say that all good things must come to an end, I would rather say when one door closes, another door opens.
Stay tuned for a new online series early next year that I hope will be as inspiring as The Week Links has been. Thanks to all the artists who generously allowed me to share their work and all of you who visited me every Sunday, clicked links, and/or left comments.
To close, as hard as it was to do, I have picked some favorites among my favorite favorites from the last 2+ years to share with you one more time.

Create with Me: 2017
CREATE WITH ME
I am finalizing details for my 2017 workshops which will take me across the United States and to a number of International locations. I am scheduled (or making plans) to teach in New York, Maryland, Arizona, North Carolina, New Mexico, California, Virginia, Washington, Kentucky, Missouri, Massachusetts, Wisconsin, and Connecticut. Internationally, I will be teaching in Canada, Australia and the UK.
I have posted my 2017 teaching schedule as it stands today on my workshop page. Registration is already open for many venues and for others it is "save the date." Some workshops are filled already. My schedule seems pretty packed to me already but there will definitely be additional classes posted as they are finalized.
Here are the highlights. Head to the workshop page for registration details and direct links:
January takes me to Savage, Maryland where I will be teaching 3 workshops (2 of which are all-new) at The Queen's Ink. I then head to Phoenix, Arizona for Creativation, the annual trade show for the Craft & Hobby Association, where I am teaching 1 (sold out) class.
In February I head overseas to Birmingham in the UK, where I will be teaching 2 classes for attendees only of the CHSI Stitches Trade Show.
March leads me to Donna Downey Studios in Huntersville, North Carolina for the first time for a special 3-day workshop weekend. Late in the month I have the good fortune to head back to The Mabel Dodge Luhan House in Taos, New Mexico where I will be hosting A Case of Curiosities -a 5-day art retreat in collaboration with Roxanne Evans Stout. Can't make it in March ? -- we are repeating this event in October.
In April I return to the Art is You retreat in Santa Rosa, California where I will be teaching a new, very special 3-day workshop called Table of Contents. In addition, I will be collaborating with Kecia Deveney there for the first time as we debut our new class Animal Magnetism.
May takes me back to Artistic Artifacts in Alexandria, Virgina to teach 2 workshops. Later in the month I head back to Canada, where I am teaching with Holly Dean for 5 days in Merrickville, Ontario.
JUNE brings me to the west coast, first to the magical Whidbey Island off the coast of Washington at Pacific Northwest Art School where I am teaching a 5-day retreat. Then I head to Idyllwild Arts in Idyllwild, California for the first time where I am teaching 3 classes.
In JULY, I am thrilled to be heading back to Australia for the third year in a row. I will first be teaching for 5 days at the Fibre Arts Australia retreat in Ballarat, Victoria. Details are in the works but I will be following that up with workshops in Sydney.
AUGUST takes me to Mineral Point, Wisconsin for the first time, where I am teaching 3 workshops as part of the Art Adventure Retreat at Shake Rag Alley.
September brings me back to Papercraft Clubhouse in Westbrook, Connecticut for 2 workshops and then back to Ephemera Paducah in Paducah, Kentucky, where I will be teaching along side of Mary Beth Shaw, Pam Carriker and Traci Bautista as part of a very special retreat: An Art Journal Affair. This event is filled.
In October I return to the Mabel Dodge Luhan House in Taos, New Mexico for a second helping of A Case of Curiosities - a 5-day art retreat in collaboration with Roxanne Evans Stout that we are also hosting in March.
NOVEMBER takes me to St. Louis, Missouri and a return trip to Mary Beth Shaw's studio where we will again collaborate on a weekend workshop.
I hope you can join me for some creative play.

Seth's Favorites: Now In Stock
As many of you know, I recently released my own, limited edition set of 4 paints with PaperArtsy.
Thrilled to announce that because they have been so well received, they are no longer "limited" but instead will be available on an ongoing basis.
Thrilled to also announce that my second set of 4 paints, with all new colors, will be released next month.
Many of you who have tried the paints have asked me about easily ordering the paints in the US since PaperArtsy is a UK-based company. Ask and ye shall receive. I have decided to begin to stock and sell a select grouping of their paints in my online shop.
Starting today, my first set of favorites is available.
Additional sets of favorites will be added soon.
And my own, original set of colors is also available (although it is again backordered and will ship in early December)
-------------------
I have been using PaperArtsy Fresco Finish Chalk Acrylic paints for several years. They have become a go-to for me for several reasons...
1. They dry fast. As any lover of layers knows...quick drying means you can move to the next layer faster too.
2. They have a matte finish. This is good news for you journalers and mark makers - any and every pen/pencil/marker writes on the surface. No more ruined pens!
3. The paints come in a variety of opacities (Opaque, Semi-Opaque, Translucent) and are clearly labeled so you know which paint has which property.
4. There is a range of over 100 colors and that gives you a major choice.
5. And perhaps the most important reason - the names of the paint are too cool to pass up: Guacamole, Purple Rain, Smurf, Yellow Submarine, Cheesecake...

IG Love: Michelle Geller
Instagram has become a source of inspiration and a place of exploration for me. I am constantly discovering artists who are new to me and whose work speaks to me. Wanting to share my finds with those of you who already are on IG and the many who may not be on the platform, I have decided to share my "finds" on my blog in sporadic posts entitled IG Love.
IG LOVE 1: Michelle Geller@holddear
"I made this journal to document a trip that I knew would be very special - my daughter and I went on a week long road trip that started in Twain Harte, California where she had worked during the summer for the U.S. Forestry Service (she's a botanist) and would end with several days in Joshua Tree.
We traveled through the Yosemite Valley and along Highway 395 which was a part of the state I knew well from many camping trips my family had gone on when I was a little girl.
Our plan was to do a lot of hiking, camping and exploring so I needed this journal to be connected to the earth.
I tea- and rusted-stained vintage ephemera using a technique I learned from Orly Avineri to make the pages.
I the bound the pages using found leather and string into old German book covers.
This journal is very fragile and vulnerable and every time I touch it, I risk damaging it...just like the spectacular places my daughter and I visited on our trip.
It is also soothing and comfortable to hold...just like the memories my daughter and I created on our trip and the tender childhood memories that my heart carries."
Thanks Michelle for allowing me to share!

The Week Links: 126
Join me every Sunday when I share some of my favorite links I discovered in the previous week. Earlier posts in the series can be found here. And here is Week 126...
1. This video of Japanese craftsmen making handmade paper is mesmerizing and very meditative.
2. And speaking of meditative and mesmerizing, watch this video of the making of Vertical Emptiness, Onishi Yasuaki's 2013 installation at the Kyoto Center. You will not believe what it is made of.
3. And speaking of unexpected materials, carved stone suspended on burlap from Eduardo Terranova.
4. Rae Missigman shares her journal pages, her "timer technique" and a video of her process in this guest post on Julie Fei-Fan Balzer's blog.
5. The African Bricks: I find these colorful, mosaic artworks by Charis Tsevis very compelling.
6. Have always loved the collages and combines from Robert Rauschenberg but also excited to have come across an artwork from him that is unexpected...
...and a fascinating article about Rauschenberg, an artist who worked to "crack the secret language of junk."
7. Flashback link 2015: Venice on My Mind. The making of a journal page...
