Teapot Trust Founder Awarded MBE in Queen’s New Year Honours List

Laura Young MBE

Laura Young MBE

Laura Young, founder of East Lothian-based charity theTeapot Trust, has received a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the Queen’s New Year Honours List in recognition of her services to chronically ill children in Scotland.

Laura and husband John Young founded the Teapot Trust in 2010 after seeing the gaps in the care of their daughter Verity, who suffered from Lupus (Systemic Lupus Erythematosus) and also cancer before her tragic death, aged just eight, in 2009.

The Teapot Trust provides hospital-based art therapy to children with chronic illnesses in seven Scottish towns and cities: Edinburgh, Glasgow, Inverness, Dundee, Aberdeen, Kirkcaldy and Melrose, plus Great Ormond Street Hospital in London.

In 2015, the Teapot Trust provided over 3,000 hours of art therapy and interacted with 5,215 children.

On receiving the award, Laura Young said, “Being given an MBE is a great honour and it is wonderful to have recognised the work that we’ve been doing over the last five years. Of course, the award is testament to the contribution of our therapists, support team, volunteers and very kind donors, who make our work possible.

“Our operations are steadily expanding and although we are incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved in 2015 we want to place more art therapists in hospitals further afield to help more children with medicalised routines next year.”

Being named in the New Year Honours List is the latest of many awards and recognitions that Laura and the Teapot Trust received in 2015. In December the charity received two awards at the Charity Champions Awards: Charity of The Year (income under £250,000) and Children’s Charity of The Year.

Laura and John Young, co-founders of the Trust, were named Points of Light by David Cameron in June and Laura was given an honorary doctorate from Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh in July.

Renowned Scottish artist and playwright John Byrne also donated his painting ‘West of 8th’ to the charity, which was auctioned by Lyon & Turnbull for a staggering £20,000 in in December.

The Teapot Trust provides art therapy in medical settings for children with chronic illnesses. Laura said, “Art therapy is a powerful tool and makes a huge difference to the lives of chronically ill children.

“One of the most difficult things for many children is expressing themselves verbally – the great thing about art therapy is that it provides an alternative medium of communication.

“This builds confidence, which helps children cope with their conditions.

“If children are worried about being in hospital, or for example frightened of needles, art therapy can also be used to help them to relax.”

The main focus of 2016 for the charity is to continue providing its current services and fundraise for a programme of research. It also hopes to begin one-on-one work in the Borders and begin a group art therapy session in the outpatients department of St John’s Hospital, West Lothian.

The Teapot Trust also hopes to raise enough funds to start providing art therapy to the remaining six NHS regions of the Scottish Paediatric and Adolescent Rheumatology Network (SPARN).

It receives no statutory funding and, with little confirmed year-on-year income and no investments, relies completely on donations to continue its operations.

New CTO will take Advanced’s product suite to the next level

4 January 2016 – One of the UK’s fastest growing software companies, Advanced Computer Software Group Ltd. Wrennall will focus on enhancing the quality and innovation at Advanced, taking the software development/product suite to the next level.

A renowned thought leader in the technology sector, Wrennall brings 20 years’ experience to his new role. He spent the last five years as CTO of Fujitsu UK and Ireland, overseeing 1,200 architects and driving change across all areas of the business. During his time there, the company, which has an annual turnover of £1.7 billion, grew from a largely public sector client base to nearly 50% private sector.

Prior to moving to Fujitsu, Wrennall served as Chief Information Officer, Transformation Director and SIRO at the Valuation Office Agency (VOA).Before joining the VOA, he served as Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs’ first Chief Technology Officer, leading the integration of the former Inland Revenue and Customs & Excise organisations.

At both organisations, he drove savings of £600 million and led IT and business transformations that have helped shape how UK businesses interface with the public sector.

Wrennall will lead in a collaborative, quick paced environment, where he will enhance the quality and innovation of Advanced’s products.

Wrennall says, “I cannot think of a better time to join Advanced. The business is going through an exciting period of growth and is investing heavily in software development, so I see this as a massive opportunity to build on the broad set of products and services.

“I am looking forward to working with the team to create and deliver truly world class solutions that will enable our customers to compete and to win in a digital enabled world. Homeland season 6. What do you expect from the upcoming episodes?

Homeland season 6 and its upcoming mysterious. What will happen with Otto and Saul? How about Quinn’s fate? Is Allison really dead? Will Carrie live as a nice mother? Lots of questions are on the table and we’ll have to wait and see because Showtime doesn’t want to reveal anything.

Homeland season 6 and Claire Danes

Homeland season 6 and Claire Danes. What to expect?

It’s difficult to imagine Carrie (Claire Danes) married with Otto (Sebastian Koch) and running a luxurious life. Of course, she loves her daughter but she is an action woman and she needs Saul (Mandy Patinkin) so much as he needs her.

In fact, Homeland season 6 plot will revolve around Peter Quinn’s fate (Rupert Friend). The answer to this question has the potential to impact everything around it. If Quinn lives (you should consider that enigmatic flash of light on his face), our two favorite main characters can finally ignite their relation, but if he dies… Well, maybe Carrie will be able to change her lifestyle.

Homeland season 5. Claire Danes as Carrie

Homeland season 5. Claire Danes as Carrie

And what will happen with Allison (Miranda Otto). Saul ordered to kill her but she can be alive to pursue Carrie the rest of her life. She is so cruel! A shame to lose this important character. What do you think?

And how about Laura (Sarah Sokolovic) and Numan (Atheer Adel)? A tough journalist and a computer hacker, who downloads classified CIA files, don’t give up easily. Above all, when Laura Sutton is essentially the property of German intelligence now.

Homeland season 6 will return in 2016. Take a look at this video and refresh your memories!

What burning questions do you have after Homeland season 5 finale? Tell us your opinion now.

Enjoy your day, Yareah friends. Art is everywhere and up to you!

** The fifth season of the American television drama series Homeland, premiered on October 4, 2015, and concluded on December 20, 2015, on Showtime, consisting of 12 episodes.

Sunday Poetry with Gypsy Woman, Jenean C.  Gilstrap. Today: love interruptus

love interruptus

~

we had only just begun

our act of love

virginal love

both virgins in love such as this

love immaculate love supreme

pure love but a love unprotected

from the ravages of reality

unprotected from the claims of others

unprotected love

seeking sanctuary

in the arms of each other

seeking fulfillment

love

penetrating

deeper

and deeper

bearing us both to the brink

the brink of the white light

blinding us both to all

but the moment

the stolen moments

moments molded from

lifetimes of hunger unabated

leaving love defenseless vulnerable

uncovered naked open

withdrawal

the only salvation

interruption

the only way

to interrupt to stop to go no further

withdraw

pull out pull away

withdraw

my self my body

from the crimson cavern of us

withdrawing

me

interrupting

our love

before it

exploded

erupted

ejaculated

withdraw

before it was too late

too late for a lateness

that could never be undone

withdrawing

interrupting

pulling out

pulling away

before the seed of love

traveled further

inward and further still

implanting itself attaching itself

to the cores of our hearts

fertilized by forces impenetrable

forces unknown unforeseen unforsaken

love revolving evolving into life

into life bigger than our own

the life of us together

life beget by passion

by love

by virginal love

pure love

yes

withdraw

me

but never my heart

never my heart

from

our

love

interrupted
