During the first weekend of the festival (5 7 February, 2016), there will be a series of talks and screenings as part of a compelling programme to draw lovers of photography to Jaipur. Some of the confirmed panellists are: Yumi Goto (co-founder and curator of the Reminders Photography Stronghold), Giles Tillotson (Academic and former Director of the Royal Asiatic Society, London), Thomas Seelig (curator, Fotomuseum Winterthur, Switzerland),Cristina de Middel (award winning photographer, Spain), Mauro Bedoni (former photoeditor Colors Magazine), Waswo x Waswo (American photographer based in Udaipur), Rafal Milach (photographer and founder of Sputnik Photos) and Pablo Ortiz Monasterio (founder of Centro de la Imagen, Mexico DF).The festival will also offer two special interventions: a travelling photo studio by set designer and photographer Aradhana Seth and the conversion of the former Jaipur Art School in Kishanpole Bazar into a temporary exhibition space by photographer Akshay Mahajan.
Under the leadership of the Chief Minister of Rajasthan, the Hon’ble Vasundhara Raje, the state has launched a series of initiatives to enhance cultural tourism and cement the state’s reputation as a destination for the arts. While many states have long focused on traditional crafts and heritage, Rajasthan is also espousing contemporary culture: Jaipur is already renowned for its annual literature festival which draws in thousands. Statewide efforts are now being made to also provide a supportive environment to the contemporary visual arts, photography and music in collaboration with experts and respected professionals from diverse fields.
“With time, the photography festival could have the same appeal for lovers of photography across the globe as the Jaipur Literature Festival has for lovers of literature. The potential is enormous not only because photography is a far more accessible medium than literature, but also because the city of Jaipur has so many sites that could be transformed into remarkable venues for photographic display” as commented by Nikhil Padgaonkar, Producer of Travel Photo Jaipur.
“The residents of Jaipur, who live in one of the most visited and celebrated cities of India, are used to being photographed. With Travel Photo Jaipur, the gaze is now reversed, and it is their turn to observe the photographic wonders of the world”, says Lola Mac Dougall, Artistic Director of Travel Photo Jaipur.

December 28th, 2015 – January 28th, 2016. JoAnne Artman Gallery. 326 N. Coast Highway, Laguna Beach, 92651
SPIRIT IN THE SKY
Never been a sinner I never sinned. I got a friend in Jesus. So you know that when I die. He’s gonna set me up with. The spirit in the sky Oh set me up with the spirit in the sky
The life-changing event of leaving Ken in the previous series drove Barbie to seek understanding of her role and relationship to spirit. She questions the very core of her beliefs and steps out of her strict Christian upbringing to search for herself. She examines first, the religious constructs of the standard Christian American upbringing, moving to creation vs. evolution. Discovering how societal roles and relationships play out, she sees how they’ve shaped her filter of understanding of self-image and she begins seeking a higher consciousness. This series is set in mid 1960s America: an era of youth cultural uprising, war, media and musical influences that urged the challenging of old ideas and the embracing of new ones. Ideologies of new, religious yogic and breath-work movements, a spiritual awakening and freedom from conformity emerged. Not unlike today, this was a time of seeking, freedom, pushing for peace and love beyond that era’s comprehension. Barbie also seeks higher consciousness with psychedelic experimentation allowing her to transcend the external world and discover the true nature of divine existence. As we follow Barbie’s path of exploration we are reminded of where she is at in her journey by the color in the image reflecting that of the chakra’s: starting in red, the root chakra, and ending at violet, the white enlightenment.

Global Warming. Artist Shane Townley’s Visions and Paintings Come True

Global Warming. Artist Shane Townley’s Paintings
When global aware artist Shane Townley started this series in 2004 he never dreamed the paintings would come true in his lifetime. “I paint what I feel I need to paint, I just can’t stop painting these works, and it’s getting worse, Its all I can think about”, says Townley.
The artist relocated from southern California where he claimed it was getting too hot to live there in the summer. “I have never felt the heat like this near the beach where I lived. Always as a kid the temp never reached higher then a comfortable 75 degrees.” says Townley.
The temperature is expected to be 72 degrees on Christmas day in New York City where the artist lives now. It seems he cannot get away from the heat. “There is a high probability for record-setting warmth up and down the entire Eastern Seaboard from Florida to Maine [on Christmas Eve],” AccuWeather Meteorologist Rob Englund said.
In recent weeks, across the eastern half of the U.S., -nearly 6,000 as of December 18—have been broken, some by wide margins and some dating back to the 1800s. The combination of El Niño and man made global warming has pushed the global climate into a new era of rapid warming, with the 2015 year almost certain to wind up as the warmest on record of all time.”It’s warm and snow-less because of El Niño and the Arctic Oscillation AND global warming.”

Global warming. The trees depicted in this piece are brown and dark from the tremenous heat upon them
Some recent coverage has muddied the connection and disseminated the idea (mainly through poorly worded headlines) that this heat is not the result of global warming. But of course the vital underlying fact is that we’ve already created a good deal of warming (1 degree C, as of these past months), globally, and so the climate phenomena that play out on the world stage today—like this Oct-Nov El Niño, the third hottest since 1950; and this fall’s warm Arctic, the highest land temperatures north of 60 degrees North since 1900—are inevitably playing out on top of, and being influenced by, these altered conditions.
The specifics of what’s happening where El Niño, Arctic dynamics, and underlying warming meet are, in a word, complex, and scientists are actively discussing how things might play out. But the collective bottom line recognizes that global warming plays a huge role.
NOAA’s Deke Arndt puts it this way, as reported by the Guardian: “Long-term climate change is like climbing a flight of stairs: over time you get higher and higher. El Niño is like standing on your tippy toes when you’re on one of those stairs. Both of those together work to create the warmest temperature on record. We would not be threatening records repeatedly if we had not climbed the stairs for decades.”
Currently the artist Shane Townley is showing his works in Mana Contemporary studio #225 in New Jersey @ 888 Newark Ave. Jersey City, NJ 07306 • http://townley.nyc
Charlie Hunnam as King Arthur will be a bad boy. “Good guys are boring”

Charlie Hunnam will be King Arthur
Sexy actor Charlie Hunnam will star as the legendary King Arthur in the upcoming film ‘Knights of the Round Table’ by Guy Ritchie. The film also stars Àstrid Bergès-Frisbey as Guinevere, Jude Law, Djimon Honsou and Katie McGrath.
Recently, the film has seen its release date pushed forward from July 22, 2016, to February 17, 2017. Why? What’s the reason?
The ambitious film wants to portray a different Arthur. “I think where the pitfall has often been is trying to make the character of King Arthur bland and nice, and nice and bland,” Guy Ritchie commented to EW, and he added that “the two qualities make rather compatible bed companions.
Unfortunately, they’re not interesting to watch. Luke Skywalker was always the most uninteresting character in Star Wars because he’s the good guy.”
Are good boys boring? What do you think? Charlie Hunnam also said that this new version of Arthur is going to be “a little bit rough around the edges.” “He’s basically a survivor. He’s a hustler,”

Guy Ritchie. Via Instagram
The source material for this movie is Thomas Mallory’s “Le Morte d’Arthur,” published in 1485. And they have planned a series of six movies. Of course, the success of the first film will determine the destiny of this plan.
Enjoy your day, Yareah friends. Art is everywhere and up to you!
** King Arthur is a legendary British leader who, according to medieval histories and romances, led the defence of Britain against Saxon invaders in the late 5th and early 6th centuries AD.
** Charlie Hunnam is also known for his roles as Jackson “Jax” Teller in the FX drama series Sons of Anarchy (2008–14), Nathan Maloney in the Channel 4 drama Queer as Folk (1999–2000), and Lloyd Haythe in the Fox comedy series Undeclared (2001–02).
Chief Medical Officer Sally Davies’ Report

Carol Smillie and Annabel Croft
AIMS TO TACKLE STRESS INCONTINENCE HIGH ST GIANT BOOTS ENLIST THE HELP OF TWO FAMOUS FACES!
Soaring obesity levels in England and Wales is the biggest threat to women’s health, and tackling it should be treated as a national priority, according to a recent women’s health report by England’s chief medical officer, Dame Sally Davies. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-3506...
Such is the scale of the probem, there were also 17 recommendations for improving female health, covering pregnant women, the menopause and female stress incontinence.
More than five million UK women suffer from varying levels of incontinence which can seriously affect the quality of their lives, according to the report. High street giant Boots have responded and are taking the lead in helping to tackle the issue by enlisting the help of two household names Annabel Croft and Carol Smillie.
Joining forces, the duo have created their own DiaryDoll brand of award winning, technical underwear, to save the blushes of so many women suffering with the embarrassing symptoms of stress urinary incontinence (SUI). DiaryDoll launch on January 6th 2016 in 122 Boots stores nationwide.
Carol comments, “We are pleased Dame Sally Davies report has highlighted some taboo issues including female stress incontinence – it’s a big step to getting more people talking about it. We think we have come up with a glamorous product in a very unglamorous sector – DiaryDolls offer protection and support when you need it most and we hope by joining forces with Boots we can help the misery of women nationwide.”
Originally created to help their daughters with the worry of heavy periods, TV presenter Carol Smillie and former British Number One tennis player Annabel Croft have been amazed by the number of women of all ages, buying them for weak pelvic floor issues. Customers describe them as ‘life-changing’ and love the fact that they look and feel like normal underwear.
SUI3, commonly known as ‘sensitive bladder’, or ‘pelvic floor weakness’ is believed to affect approximately nine million women in the UK and whilst ‘peeing yourself laughing’ might be an age old saying, the reality of wetting yourself when you sneeze, cough, laugh, exercise or even bounce on a trampoline is no laughing matter.
When Kate Winslet openly admitted “by third sneeze, it’s game over” on Graham Norton’s chat show, sales rocketed.
DiaryDoll’s secret weapon is a secret waterproof lining hidden between two layers, to give women extra back up and confidence when they need it, and avoid embarrassing leaks onto clothes whilst at work, out socialising, exercising or through the night.
Lightweight, soft, machine washable and created to look and feel just like your favourite pants, the range is designed to be worn together with tampons or pads, delivering increased protection and extra confidence,
Discreet and highly effective for stress incontinence but also post-maternity, during exercise and heavy periods, women across the country have been stocking up on the pants since the range launched online and through local pharmacies, in fact when they first went on QVC they sold almost 400 pairs in just eight minutes!. Thousands have been sold since, and the company is flat out making more to keep up with demand and to get ready for the launch into Boots in the New Year.
DiaryDoll pants (£14.95 per pair) are available in three colours – black, pink, grey and blue spot (only Black in Boots). The range launches into Boots on January 6th 2016.

At a certain point, you realize you have a responsibility more behind yourself and your need for adrenaline. I’m glad I did things in my 20s that were more reckless. Eddie Vedder
I think the hardest thing about making music now is being a great dad at the same time. There’s an insanity that goes with writing – a mad scientist thing that you have to go through – and sacrificing a kid’s upbringing to do that is not an option. Eddie Vedder

HBO News: Documentary Becoming Mike Nichols debuts Feb. 22
BECOMING MIKE NICHOLS, AN INTIMATE DOCUMENTARY PORTRAIT OF THE GREAT DIRECTOR IN HIS HISTORIC FINAL FILMED APPEARANCE, DEBUTS FEB. 22, EXCLUSIVELY ON HBO
“This is what you need to know about movies: You get lucky in various strange ways.” – Mike Nichols
Much more than lucky, Mike Nichols wowed movie and theatergoing audiences alike for more than six decades with a rich and deeply varied body of work. Just four months before he died, in a set of final, historic interviews, Nichols opened up to his close friend and colleague, theater director Jack O’Brien, about the storied beginnings of his career, including his comedy collaboration with Elaine May, his direction of two Neil Simon stage classics, and his acclaimed feature-film debut, “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?,” and its follow-up, “The Graduate.”
With disarming candor, wry wit and sharp self-deprecation, Nichols delivered a master class on his craft in what would be his last in-depth interviews, for BECOMING MIKE NICHOLS, debuting MONDAY, FEB. 22, exclusively on HBO, following its world premiere at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival.
The documentary will also be available on HBO NOW and HBO GO.
One of the great contemporary artists, Mike Nichols created a body of film work that received a total of 42 Academy Award® nominations. Over his career, he won one Oscar®, four Emmys®, nine Tonys and a Grammy. Directed by Douglas McGrath (Oscar®-nominated writer of “Bullets over Broadway” and writer-director of “Emma” and “Infamous”), BECOMING MIKE NICHOLS features an intimate, relaxed and candid exchange between O’Brien and Nichols, which took place over two days in the summer of 2014 at the Golden Theatre, where the groundbreaking “An Evening with Nichols and May” had its smash Broadway debut in 1960.
Nichols offers insights into his childhood as a seven-year-old immigrant to America (his family escaped Nazi Germany in 1939), as well as the genesis of his career as a performer at the University of Chicago. Despite suffering from stage fright, Nichols rose to stardom as half of the improvisational comedy duo Nichols and May, having met the comedian during his time with The Compass Players in the mid-1950s. They never rehearsed and Nichols’ ability to let go and “revere the unconscious” became the catalyst that informed his later directorial style.
“Not naming something, not deciding what to do, being brave and going out empty is the only way,” explains Nichols. “And it’s both terrifying and thrilling. And what I didn’t know is that it applies to directing, too.”
His first foray into stage directing was Neil Simon’s “Barefoot in the Park” in 1964. With the participation of a young Robert Redford and advice from friend Lillian Hellman, the production won Nichols his first Tony Award. Directing Simon’s “The Odd Couple” earned him a second Tony, and sparked in him the keen observation that “there are only three types of scenes: negotiations, seductions and fights.”
This would prove true on his debut film, 1967’s “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?,” with its inimitable pairing of Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor. Nichols admits that at the time, his knowledge of filmmaking was almost non-existent. With the help of his friend, actor Anthony Perkins, he spent a frantic three days learning about cameras and lenses. The film received 13 Oscar® nominations and won five awards, most notably a Best Actress prize for Taylor.
BECOMING MIKE NICHOLS also delves into the making of “The Graduate,” Nichols’ second film, which brought him an Academy Award® for directing and was nominated for six other Oscars®. Nichols’ instincts drove him to cast an unknown young actor he recounts seeing as “a transvestite Russian fishwife in an off-Broadway play,” and with that, Dustin Hoffman’s career was launched. Discussing the iconic Simon and Garfunkel soundtrack, Nichols reveals how the inventive montages came about and also touches on the legendary last shot, noting, “That ending was what taught me what movies really are.”
Nichols went on to direct such classic films as “Carnal Knowledge,” “Silkwood” and “Working Girl,” and earned Emmys® for his HBO productions of “Wit” and “Angels in America.” His other award-winning stage productions included “The Real Thing,” “Monty Python’s Spamalot” and “Death of a Salesman,” starring Philip Seymour Hoffman.
With access to archival photographs and footage from Nichols’ days as a performer and a theater director, and an illuminating use of movie clips from “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?” and “The Graduate,” BECOMING MIKE NICHOLS goes inside the head and heart of this brilliant artist. He lays bare his creative process, his drive and his formidable sense of humor with touching behind-the-scenes anecdotes.
In addition to “Bullets over Broadway” and “Emma,” director Douglas McGrath’s films include “Nicholas Nickleby,” “Infamous” and the Emmy®-nominated HBO documentary “His Way.” He also wrote the Tony-nominated book for “Beautiful: The Carol King Musical,” currently running on Broadway.
Jack O’Brien has won three Tonys and five Drama Desk Awards for his work in the theater, where he directed such productions as “Hairspray,” “Henry IV” and “The Coast of Utopia.” He served as artistic director of the Old Globe Theatre in San Diego from 1981 to 2007.
Executive producer Frank Rich spent more than three decades as a writer at the New York Times before joining New York magazine in 2011. He currently serves as an executive producer on HBO’s Emmy®-winning comedy series “Veep” and executive produced the Peabody Award-winning HBO documentary “Six by Sondheim.”
HBO Documentary Films presents BECOMING MIKE NICHOLS; a film by Douglas McGrath; directed by Douglas McGrath; executive produced by Frank Rich, Jack O’Brien and Douglas McGrath; edited by Camilla Toniolo. For HBO: produced by Ellin Baumel; supervising producer, Lisa Heller; executive producer, Sheila Nevins.
Sotheby’s December Sales of Judaica and Israeli & International Art Bring $22.6 Million

Sotheby’s December Sales of Judaica and Israeli & International Art Bring $22.6 Million
NEW YORK, 22 December 2015 – Sotheby’s set a new world auction record for any piece of Judaica today in New York, when one of the finest copies of Daniel Bomberg’s Babylonian Talmud sold for $9.3 million (estimate $5/7 million, above).* The extraordinary volume was purchased by Stephan Loewentheil for the 19th Century Rare Book & Photograph Shop. The Bomberg Talmud led the sale of a selection of extraordinary items from The Valmadonna Trust, which totaled $14.9 million and became the most valuable auction of Judaica ever held.** Together with the auctions of Important Judaica and Israeli & International Art, Sotheby’s annual December sales of Judaica and Israeli Art totaled $22.6 million.
The Talmud, or “Oral Law,” is a compendium of hundreds of years of rabbinical discussion and debate which expound upon the laws of the Bible. Daniel Bomberg is responsible for the first complete edition of the Babylonian Talmud (1519-1523), universally recognized not simply as one of the most significant books in the history of Hebrew printing, but as one of the great books of the Western world. The record setting Talmud sold today is one of the finest copies of Bomberg’s edition – of which only 14 complete 16th century sets survive.
The Valmadonna Library’s copy of the Bomberg Talmud was kept for centuries in the library of Westminster Abbey. In 1956, collector Jack Lunzer attended an exhibition at The Victoria and Albert Museum celebrating 300 years of Jewish resettlement in England. It was there that he first became aware of the Abbey’s magnificent and complete copy, and vowed somehow to acquire it. He spent the next 25 years determined to fulfill this virtually impossible ambition. Eventually, he purchased a 900-year-old copy of the Abbey’s original Charter, and presented it, along with supporting endowments, to the Abbey in exchange for its copy of the Bomberg Talmud.
Please find a press release attached that addresses highlights from each of the three sales. High-resolution images and Top Ten sheets for each can be found below (images “Courtesy Sotheby’s”):
