Just around the corner

So lots of cool things going on here in Writer Land.

First of all, Lux 2.2 Burning is off in editing getting all polished and shiny for your consumption.  It’s the longest book in the series. It kept writing itself longer than  I thought it would, and it’s dark and oogy and full of nasty twists and turns.

Post production continues on the trailer that we shot last year, and I finally, FINALLY, got to see a rough cut.  I can’t tell you how awesome it was to see my people doing rebel things and Lux-like things.  I’ve watched it a million times.  There’s still a long way to go with special effects and all those other technical things which aren’t even in my job description.  I am just eyes and fingers, but I’m giving it two thumbs up in advance.

And last of all, but not proverbially least, is the release of the Lux Omnibus paperback in just a few DAYS!

That means you can hold the first three books in your hot little hands.  You can smell the pages, and dog ear them, and make little doodles and notes in the margins, and prop open doors, and throw them at spiders, and anything else you like to do with a Real Book.

The paperbacks will be available on Amazon.  I’ll give you a shout out as soon as they’re available.

And hey… winter is finally over.  Go wiggle your toes and make warm plans.

la la la la la

I write to music.  Always.  It’s like the heart beat that keeps the blood of the story moving.

Lux has introduced me to all kinds of music I never listened to before and it’s occasionally driven the books in directions I never expected.  I sort of ‘see’ things as I write, like it’s a movie in my head I have to make with my fingers and some letters, so a soundtrack is a necessity   I’ve written some of my saddest scenes to music like “Time” by Hans Zimmer and “Thistles and Weeds” by Mumford and Sons.  And if I need a battle I turn to My Chemical Romance, Breaking Benjamin, or Godsmack.  I was actually listening to “E.T.” by Katy Perry when I wrote Lissa and Gideon’s first kiss, which is weird, I know, but also somehow appropriate.

For most of Book Five I’ve listened to the heaviest, most angsty music I can find, interspersed with a lot of James Horner and other movie composers.  I use them when I need an epic feel.

This sounds like a recipe for a musical mental disorder.

So anyway… I like Pandora because it always throws something my way that I’ve never heard.  The commercials can be real mood killers–I was right in the middle of a death scene the other day when I was yanked from my dark alley by an ad for Disneyland, voiced by Buzz Lightyear– but it’s worth it to take the risk, because sometimes the perfect thing comes on at just the right time.  Kind of like life.

This song by Evan’s Blue played the other day and it just seemed to be the anthem for Burning.  So I’m sharing it with you here.  Hope you like it.
