This post has absolutely nothing to do with Dr. Who.  I just liked the image and what the hell.

For today's coffin hop post, go here!!!

I suppose you could infer I have the single-mindedness of a Dalek, if you'd like.  Have at it.

Anywho, as we rapidly approach Nanowrimo, I'm considering how to structure my upcoming writing commitments.  There are the daily word-counts on Troll or Derby, of course—then there are the bloggy blogs.

I don't normally write about writing/deadlines, etc. at this page (that's on another site, just ask, it's not a big secret or anything).  Breaking that rule for this post, because I'd like to have your feedback.

The CoffinHop silliness of this week has been way more successful than I thought it would be.  I have had a lot of fun writing little goofy things as prizes, and unlike the Kindle I gave away as part of my book launch, these little writerly treats are *free*.

As I was telling other writers on a message board lately, I truly believe in attraction, as opposed to promotion.  At the same time, starting from scratch with a pen name like I have, I felt like I really needed a running start to get my name out there.  (Call me spoiled, but being nationally syndicated for my opinion column made me accustomed to a little more name rec than this nobody moniker swung around a couple of months ago.)

It's out there now, and I've started hearing back from y'all.  You like my poetic imagery, you love the page-turning intensity.  You think I'm funny.  Thank you.  Not saying that here to toot my own horn, just trying to figure out how much of what to post on this site, to keep you coming back.  Let me entertain you, as it were.  Thinking aloud.

Starting in November, I have guests slated for a blog series about the new Kindle Fire, and about the wintertime comfort of reading, in general.  Get Fired Up for the Holidays is the working title of that series, and the guests have been hand-picked and are *sure* to please.  Aside from that, and Nanowrimo, I'm thinking of incorporating theme days, at least for awhile.  Just to give that a try.  I've got a few mapped out on the calendar, but I haven't chiseled them into stone just yet.

What do you think?  What would you like to see more of? I very much would like to know.  You're the reason I'm doing this.

Coffin Hop Day Four!

I see right through you with my X-ray vampire eyes…you're here to win another goofy prize.

So far we've written excuses to get off work, 140 character Dear John letters, and *ahem* meaningful toasts for surprise special occasions.  Today's prize is a combination of expert writing and visual wit!  I will make a comic panel (online) just for you!

Just become one of my fans on Goodreads, and leave a comment about the Coffin Hop *anywhere you find me online*, and I'll make something crazy for you—just for you—ASAP!  Feel free to add in any requests, although I don't promise I can fulfill them all.  I'll be using stripcreator some online comic generator, perhaps more than one!

Breathtaking, isn't she?  I almost don't know what...

Breathtaking, isn't she?  I almost don't know what to say about her.

Have you ever been at a complete loss for words?  How about with an important occasion coming up, or worse-yet, you're asked to give a toast or a speech on the spot?  Read on…

Welcome to the Coffin Hop blog tour, day three!

I'm Red Tash, and I write dark fantasy.  Hi.  *waves*

Everyone's doing something a little different on this blog hop.  Since I'm a writer, I thought I'd write a little something for ya.  And because we're having contests, I thought I'd do a really easy contest, one for each day.  It may not be a huge prize, but it's fun. So far I've written excuses for your boss, and Dear John tweets for your sweetie.  Pretty sure they went over well.  I got at least one person fired and another dumped, so, yeah.  Success!

Here's what I'll write for you today:

A toast!  To life!  To Halloween!  To your brand new leaf-blower!  To whatever strikes your fancy (nothing X-rated, please)!

To claim your prize, just click on the Google Friend Connect box here at RedTash.com, in the sidebar.  Either leave a comment via Disqus, or in the Google Comments box, and let me know what we're toasting.  I'll grab the bread & butter, and be right with ya!

If you're just not feeling all warm & toasty, I'll write you a work excuse or a Dear John tweet.  What's a goodie basket without variety, eh?  Just follow those links and follow the die-rections.

:D

Why YES!  I CAN drive a stick!

Welcome to the Coffin Hop blog tour, day two!

Yesterday I wrote excuses for you to get off work, because Monday's the pits, right?  I'd say they went over pretty well, too!  Thanks to all who played.

Here's what I'll write for you today:

It's Tearful Tweetie Tuesday, and you've been bewitched by a new love.  What a sad, sad day today—for your former someone.  You've got a new love in your life, at least just for today.  I'll write a Dear John letter for you, in 140 characters or less.  (I hear there are fifty ways to leave your lover, but fear not, if I get more than 50 requests, I'll figure something out.)

You go follow me on twitter and tweet something @RedTashBooks about the #CoffinHop, and I'll write you a break-up tweet.  Who says breaking up is hard to do?  I promise it'll be every bit as serious and heart-rending as yesterday's prizes were.   (In other words, prepare for a weird, silly, wacky break-up story, because that's just who I am.  And if you don't believe me, ask my exes.  I think they live in Texas.  All of them.)

Don't worry, at the end of the day you can twitch your nose and go back to how things were.  That's the magic of Halloween.  Or something like that.

Besides, when's the last time you played hard to get?  Not hard to want, my friend.  Hard to get.  This is good for you.

Oh, and since I'm easy, if you really want one of those work excuses instead of the Dear John tweet, just follow yesterday's rules for entering, and I'll see what I can do.

Welcome to the Coffin Hop blog tour, day one!

I'm Red Tash, and I write dark fantasy.  Hi.  *waves*

Everyone's doing something a completely different on this blog hop.  Since I'm a writer, I thought I'd write a little something for ya.  And because we're having contests, I thought I'd give you a fairly simple challenge to complete, in order to win a goofy writerly prize.

Here's what I'll write for you!

It's Monday, so how about a creative excuse from work?

You go to my Facebook page, and tag yourself in one of my photos, and I'll write you an excuse from work today.  Yes, you!  Everyone who tags yourself on your page, or tags me in one of your photos (even better!) gets a customized excuse.  Why not?  Everyone wins (except your boss).

And in the spirit of the vintage photo I posted today, all I can say is "Muhahahahaha…"

oldhollywood:

Ricardo Cortez in production still from D.W. Griffith's Faustian taleThe Sorrows of Satan (1926), which was based on Marie Corelli's 1895 novel.

Remember, after you've visited here for your prize, visit the other fine monsters at the Coffin Hop.

This Brilliant Darkness broke the Top 100 for Dark Fantasy last...

This Brilliant Darkness broke the Top 100 for Dark Fantasy last night on Amazon.  It would have done it a few weeks ago, but there was a glitch & Amazon didn't answer my first email on the topic.  So…we're celebrating now!  BOOM!

Also, I've submitted Tim Tash's first short story collection.  It's already available on Smashwords, so give it a look-see if you like high fantasy.  Mages, shape-shifters, princes, and what-not.  I always say "dragons," and he corrects me—NO DRAGONS.

We started working on a story idea together a month or two ago, and I insisted on a dragon.  Maybe we'll get that one done, eventually.  I've been trying to write something with him since about 1995.  We'll get there, eventually.

Anyway, YAY, This Brilliant Darkness!  Go check it out.

And if $.99 is outside your budget, I've got the freebie The Wizard Takes a Holiday, and Tim's Tales of Haydon, both free downloads.

I had a crazy dream a few nights ago.  A map, and the words...

I had a crazy dream a few nights ago.  A map, and the words "Pine Barrens," over and over again in my head.

I looked up the Pine Barrens and found out that's where the Jersey Devil lives.  My friend Jenny says there's no Jersey Devil.  What do you think?

This owl painting with the pine trees just made me remember that.  I don't know why.

My friend Caerynn says Pine Barrens was the name of a Sopranos episode, but I've never watched that show.  My friend Liz says it was an X-Files ep, but if so, it's been so long since I've seen it, why would it surface now?

And the map in my head was hand-drawn, old-fashioned.  Possibly tea-stained.

What does it mean?
