Beyond Freytag’s Pyramid
As I plot certain parts of BOOK TWO, I have to think that the old “Freytag’s Pyramid” way of thinking, while it IS a foundation for dramatic literature and plays, is far too simple for today’s mind. It is, at least, what I would like to THINK today’s mind is capable of. I happen to think that writing does NOT have to follow a certain pattern, and perhaps that’s why I have only sold 2,500 copies to this date. The OLD Freytag is just not for me.
I would have to say that MY style looks more like a company profit/loss chart, where profits have always been on the uptick, and always in the black, so to speak.

Iceburg Refugees!
Yes, that is misspelled. Should be ICEBERG. Sometimes in the dark recesses of the writer's mind, one never knows how things got there. The title of this post was from a dream I had. I was in my High School Auditorium, which looked nothing like the auditorium from my High School growing up. The teachers and staff were pulling all of the students out of the auditorium and placing them on a floating iceberg to test them all for alcohol consumption.
Of course, I was wearing a robe that was too small and no underwear. Freud would have something to say about that, I am sure. I was trying to lead a revolt against the staff, and in chalk I drew a flat-topped iceberg with a ring on the top, and on the top, I scrawled "Iceburg Refugees!" I can't fathom in any way how that would come to the forefront, much less how it got back there to begin with.

What I Want From Readers
I am busy plotting a number of things for BOOK TWO of the Triple C Ranch Saga (see previous posts), and sometimes I come up with plot points that are… oh… SHOCKING. Where it comes from, I have no idea. But what I DO know is that when I write, I write how I think my readers would react to certain situations. It's not like I have a "formula" of any kind, mind you. I do some plotting with pencil and paper, and just mainly come up with important ideas and scenes that I feel have to fit in the plot somewhere.
It's not exactly an easy thing to do, and all writers are different, but I follow a few simple rules when it comes to what I write. I feel I have to be CONSISTENT in the whole story. I want to make the reader laugh, cry, get totally pissed off so that they throw things, and most of all, I want them to be SHOCKED. As illustrated in BOOK ONE (no spoiler here), I have some rather shocking scenes.
As for BOOK TWO, I CAN promise PLENTY of shocking scenes, intermixed with humor, sadness and despair, vulnerability, and so many other emotions (the list goes on). What I want from my readers is what I expect from any writer. I want to hook them, and tell a story well enough so that they are engrossed in what I consider realistic fiction. If these plot points I found somewhere in the recesses of this gray matter come to fruition, then I WILL accomplish what I want from readers. I am not writing for an Agent or a Publisher. I write for myself and what I feel the reader would want to read. We'll see what happens. ON WITH BOOK TWO!

Post-promotion sales have also picked up, and I am hoping for a slew of reviews to get things going even more. Word of mouth will help propel the novel where it needs to be. I am counting on it.
