Can blogging actually harm your writing?

I'm a huge fan of blogging, and a keen blogger myself, but in my latest post for Strictly Writing, I look at whether getting the blogging habit is always a good thing for would-be writers...

Twitter for writers

As anyone who follows me on Twitter (under the spectacularly-misleading-but-optimistic-at-the-time name Thriftygal) will know, I am a huge fan of the social media site. Frankly, you can't shut me up. I also follow a lot of other writers and have seen the mistakes that even the most established writers make (I once stopped following one of my all-time favourite writers because all he did was tweet quotes from his own books. All of which I had read, so not much point in that...) So with that in mind, I did this short but hopefully useful blogpost on Twitter for writers: do see what you think and let me know how YOU use the site.

Why writers need thick skins

One of the things all writers get used to is rejection; but in today's digital world, you need a thicker skin than ever.

Here's a post I did for Strictly Writing on coping with criticism...

A new review at Byte the Book

I have been raving to anyone who will listen about Madeline Miller's Orange Prize winning novel Song of Achilles, so was delighted to review it for Byte the Book.

Networking in a digital age

One of the hardest things about working for yourself, whether as a writer of just being self-employed, is isolation. So here's my new post about my latest foray into networking...

Free new short story at Byte the Book

As part of my attempt to not go crazy from working by myself all of the time, I have joined the great new online community at Byte the Book, a site about digital publishing, which also holds regular meet-ups.

My first posts went live today: a review of the Terry Pratchett book Snuff, and a short story.

So if you have five minutes and fancy a quick read, do pop over and read my story. I'd love to know what you think!

Strictly Writing

One of the main issues with being a writer is it can be a lonely job: so I was delighted when fellow author Caroline Green invited me to join the Strictly Writing online collective, and I'm looking forward to sharing tales of triumph and tribulations with the other writers involved.

Check out the first post here:
