Why Are There So Few Drupal 8 Themes?

Back in January this year, we talked about Drupal 8 themes. At that time, there were 86 themes for Drupal 8 on Drupal.org.

9 months later? There are only 133 themes for Drupal 8.

In the whole of 2016, we've added only 47 themes for Drupal 8.

New Drupal 8 Ideas in Dries' Dublin Keynote

This week is DrupalCon Dublin. And as always, Dries gave the keynote address on the first morning of the event.

This year's keynote was broken into two sections: "Drupal 8 Update" and "The Why".

In "Drupal 8 Update", Dries talks about the technical side of Drupal. From minute 27 to minute 42, Dries talks about what's new in Drupal 8.2, which arrives on October 5th. We've covered those new features in previous posts. Then, from minute 42 to 48, Dries discusses features may arrive in future Drupal versions. If you're short on time, watch those 6 minutes. In "The Why", starting at minute 40, there's a much broader focus on the larger purpose of Drupal. This section of personal anecdotes and stories of Drupal in action.

New Class: How to Develop Joomla Modules

For quite some time, Joomla development has been the most requested topic by OSTraining members.

Today, I'm delighted to release the first of several Joomla development classes. We've worked with Cory Webb, a Joomla developer since 2005, to produce a series of classes on building Joomla extensions.
This first new class is called "How to Use Develop Joomla Modules". We are starting with modules, the simplest of all Joomla extensions. After this, we'll move on to more classes that cover plugins, components and much more.

These classes will help you to become a Joomla developer. Watch today's class, and you'll learn how to build a complete Joomla module. Cory is going to show you how to build a Random articles module, from start to finish.

How to Add Audio Files to Drupal 8 Sites

Using the Drupal AudioField module, I will explain how you can display a simple HTML5 player for your site's audio files.

3 More Major Features in Drupal 8.2

In early August, we wrote about 7 improvements you'll see in Drupal 8.2.

During the four weeks since that post, the Drupal team has added more major features. Drupal 8.2 is now in the release candidate stage, so the features are finalized. Now is a good time to download and test.

You can read the 8.2 changelog for a rundown of all the changes, but in this blog post we'll introduce you to three more big improvements.

New Class: How to Use Ecwid for eCommerce Sites

If you want to set up an online store, and don't want to set up a new website, then Ecwid is a great solution. Ecwid has everything you need to set up an e-commerce store from products and categories to payments and shipping.

Once your store is created, you can embed products (or the whole store) into Ecwid as simply as you would embed a YouTube video. This enables you to easily use Ecwid with Drupal, Joomla or WordPress.

This week's new class is called "How to Use Ecwid for eCommerce Sites" and will help you rapidly set up your store with Ecwid.
