OSTraining at the Joomla World Conference

In November, several of the OSTraining team headed to Cancun, Mexico

We were there for the 3rd annual Joomla World Conference. To my knowledge, this was the first major open source conference to take place in Latin America. The whole conference was bi-lingual, with translators constantly on hand and many presentations given in Spanish.

The whole event took place at a resort on the Gulf of Mexico.

Thanks to this photo from Thomas Hunziker, you can tell that the conference was really hard work:

How Did We Do? 10 CMS Predictions for 2014

At the beginning of this year, we made our CMS predictions for 2014.

Some of those predictions were based on trends we saw in 2013. Some were hunches.

Some of those predictions were fun, but some were really serious for us. After all, our business success depends on being able to see changes coming.

So, how accurate were our 2014 predictions?

New Video Class: Build a WordPress Restaurant Theme With Make

This week's WordPress class will be very useful if you're interested in custom themes and adding functionality to plugins.

These new videos follow on directly from the Build a WordPress Restaurant Site class. Topher demonstrates how he built the theme that he used for the restaurant project.

In this class, Topher creates a child theme based on Make, creates taxonomy template overrides and adds some functionality to the restaurant plugin for his theme.

You Can Now Control the Speed of Video Lessons

The most requested feature at OSTraining was the ability to speed up videos.

Many of you squeeze in time for training and want to progress through the training more quickly.

You can now run the videos more quickly at 1.25x, 1.5x or 2x. If you want to, you can also run them more slowly, at 0.5x or 0.75x.

How to Rewrite the Output of Views with PHP

Views is a very powerful tool that allows you to pull information from your database in many flexible ways.

However, there will be situations where the default options in Views aren't enough. The Views PHP module allows you even more flexibility.

In these two videos, Robert Ring, one of our Drupal teachers, shows you how to re-write a View using PHP.

Replace Content in Joomla with DB Replacer

One of our members had a large task in front of them. They changed the name of their organization and needed to update their very large Joomla site. Doing this manually would have taken a long time. Fortunately, DB Replacer by NoNumber makesit possible to do this job with just a few clicks.

How to Sort Drupal Views Alphabetically

Alphabetical sorting is one of the most common ways people want to sort content in Views.

You may want to sort many types of content from A to Z, from staff members to business listings.

New Video Class: Drupal Advanced Views

Views is one of the most important modules in Drupal 7.

Views allows you to build sophisticated database queries without touching any code.

Views enables a site builder to create landing pages, blocks, attachments and more to present their content in a wide variety of ways.

We already have a Beginner's Guide to Views. In this week's video class, "Advanced Views", our newest Drupal trainer, Robert Ring, demonstrates a number of interesting ways to further enhance Views.
