Remember the Days He Lived
They told her the sea took him during a terrible storm. She didn’t understand the reason why, but she didn’t question it. She was just thankful of the time she had with him. He lived well, lived like a true man who loved the sea. She knew he didn’t regret it, so neither did she.

Such a Beautiful Friend Was She
Here’s the sad lament
of a man from Kent
whose wife is adrift at sea.
She lost her head
when she fell out of bed
and went aft while the ship went alee.
She’d been drinking since noon
in the ships’ saloon
while she should have been sipping tea.
Such a beautiful friend was she.

Refuge in the Garden
The tears fall, splashing down my face. We are alone, secluded in the fragrant garden. My white gown has torn in my humiliated dash from the church. My best friend, maid of honor, support-system extraordinaire comforts me. “You will get through this. Not tomorrow, not even next month, but you will be whole again.”

My Pet Snake
I jiggled the pump valve in the dimly lit bathroom cabinet and caught a glimpse of the hose that fed the ultra-violet filter. It looked moldy, spotted, and rough. Yet another spring cleaning job.
Until it moved. And rattled.
I scrambled for rubber gloves, a wastebucket, and barbeque tongs.
A camera would have been smarter.

I should’ve stayed in bed
No morning smog except in my brain, hung over, mouth tastes like mucilage, and roommate was MIA when I heard banging at the door.
Cheap earrings for a lady, her hat and smile belonging to Cesar Romero, I see silver, hear the pop and feel the red flash.
Blood.
“That was no toy gun. Damn.”

Toby
Toby looked at me hopefully; “Zoo?” was all he asked.
“Yes, we’ll go to the zoo today, Toby,” I replied.
“Hooray!” was his immediate approval of today’s plan, hands clapping excitedly as he smiled broadly.
I smiled back to his round face and almond eyes. His smile was my treasure.

Stuck In A Rut
I knock once, nobody answers. I knock again, still nothing. I scream and bang with all my might… Yet still not a soul; only the sound of my own miserable voice. Trapped inside my head; my own version of hell. Maybe if somebody answered I could be free to live the beauty that is life.

“Independence Day”
The room was dim, yet her intent clear; a blur brought about by the deafening gunshot.
A marred pool; greys and violet beneath and black with a swirling vortex of white above fills my vision. A perfect row of pearl white shingles haunt me.
Vision cleared, three words slipped parted lips. “Cinco de Mayo!”

A smile like his
He always made me happy. Never wanting to leave him but knew the time had come. I asked him for one last request. Remember me when your out at sea? He said he will always think of me as I have stamped his heart with love. Tears ached my skin.

Love Triangle
So I told her about what he said. She frowned and then shrugged, as if brushing the words that I had uttered away. “Well?” I asked her impatiently. “He chose you. I am your friend. What else is there to say?”
