The Traveling Circus, France, June 4th, 1940.

Six elephants walked in front of Marc on the road. Five bears followed behind in a chain. A horse drawn carriage held the lions. The people on the road ran in all directions as he heard the drone of the Luftwaffe planes. The bears knocked him down before he heard the shots.

A Bloom of Hope

I await my next ride, the pain in my heart constant. An asphalt flower, my sole companion, breaks free of its prison.

A beaten up truck judders to a stop, narrowly missing my friend.

"Where ya heading, son?"

"North."

We pull away, leaving behind memories of Anna, and the tiny flower reaching for the sun.

Impact

A storm of ideas circled his mind. Happily, he opened the door and ran wildly, jumping with joy . . . only to be met by a speeding car at 100 miles per hour.

Eternally Roadbound

We fried eggs on the hot roads; made torrid love on sun-burned roadside grasses; pledged eternal something-or-other in the heat of the sundowners; started rancid arguments over whose turn to drive in the sweltering afternoon heat; forgot to keep an eye on the road; melted into each other bodies in the fiery crash.

Roadkill

The spear of light lances the raccoon's eye moments before the wheel breaks its back. Motorcycle and rider tumble inelegantly, droning through moonlight on hardtop.

I wind in the leash dragging the sacrificed raccoon into the brush, and race to examine the fallen biker.

Pepperoni in leather: the kids will eat well tonight.

The Last Cruise

Driving his BMW-327 down the German road that cloudy day, he eased off the accelerator as he began to hear a loud rumble. It wasn't from the engine, but from the skies, miles away. It intensified even more. He knew it wasn't the Luftwaffe, No, these birds were much larger, and in greater numbers.

Disarray

There's a crash. I wake up to find myself in a tight and opaque compartment. The air feels musty. I'm losing oxygen. I struggle to find an opening.

"Hello?"

No response.

After what seemed like hours, I'm let out by a man that I don't recognize, but I feel I know…

"Welcome to my Kingdom".

Maniac

The hoot of the owl in the darkness kept creeping his anxiety.

He heard a car approaching. After putting the tire down, he ran into the woods.

A voice brooded over. A struggle ensued…

The body collapsed slowly.

On his way back, he dropped another nut on the road and knelt down again.

Yes…

One Tuesday night he was stopped by the Cops.

"License and Registration, please."

He didn't have any, so they told him to step off the car.

"Are you drunk?"

He made a gesture with his fingers and then said: "Yes, but just a little bit."

But Why?

When the paramedics arrived at the scene, both were pronounced dead.

"You promised to be with us and protect us," they told God, when He gave them audience.

"Yes, but once you press the pedal, I couldn't reach you."
