H is for Harrison

“What makes you think I am in trouble?”
I turned to see that Selah had taken a defensive stance to match her tone.
“You have this lad steaming more than a kettle of tea, and your brow is furrowed like a farmer’s field. Now, tell me, what mischief have you made?”
Selah glanced toward me. I crossed my arms. I was not going to offer an explanation for her behavior. She would have to tell him of her rudeness herself.
She pointed an accusing finger. “He is threatening to go to my master and give a bad report of me.”Hancock sighed. He seemed to have dealt with this fiery lady before. “And what did you do to warrant this threat?”
The girl had the decency to blush as she recalled her words. Her gaze dropped to the ground, and her voice became quiet. “I asked him if he was here for tea.”
“Here for tea? I do not understand.”
The young woman said nothing.
I felt compelled to say something. “The first time I met this woman was at the Lion and Lamb tavern. I ordered tea, which offended her for some mysterious reason.”
Her head jerked up and she glared at me once again. “If it had been Dutch tea, I would not have minded, but the Lion and Lamb carries English tea. I thought you might care more for your countrymen.” The fire was back in her eyes.
John Hancock let out another sigh. “Selah, one of these days you will end up in trouble or the gaol because of that tongue of yours; trouble from which Josiah Quincy and all his law skills, and me with all my wealth, cannot extricate you. You had better apologize to this young man, and think twice before confronting a gentleman again, especially one who is unknown to you.”

G is for Glenda

"You will meet him tomorrow. We shall take a picnic lunch and spend the day with him in the hills.”
“Maggie should keep you both here to work; you don’t do nearly half as much as I do.”

If anything, Glenda’s face became more pinched, and her scowl only deepened. “Your smile may beguile others, but I see right through it.”
“I… I only wished to see how you fared this morning.” Alditha’s brow creased, and her smile faded.
Glenda’s hands went to her hips. “I know exactly what you are doing. You are trying to get on Maggie’s good side so that you can do less work. For the past few days you have gotten the easiest tasks. Mark my words, it will not last long.”
Eleanor threw her bun against the table and moved toward Glenda, but Alditha held her back.
Taking a deep breath to let out her frustration, Alditha spoke: “I am truly sorry you feel that way. As soon as I finish here, I would be happy to help you with your work.”
“But…”
Alditha placed her hand over Eleanor’s month before she could say more.
Glenda’s lips twisted into a sneer. “You think you are so much better than me, Alditha of Sittell, but you aren’t. I don’t need your help or your smiles. Use them on Maggie and get her to think you are so much better than you really are. Someday you will be sorry.” Giving Alditha a push, she made her way further into the kitchen.
Alditha turned back to her task at hand. She took out her frustration by squeezing hard a misshapen lump of dough.
“How could you be so nice to her?” Eleanor seethed. “She was horrible to you, and you didn’t say one mean thing to her. Why?”
“It wasn’t easy. Perhaps if I’m nice to her every day, she will grow less cold and angry.”
“Or she could grow more so and bitter.” Eleanor smashed the dough between the table and her clenched fist.

Cover Reveal: Creighton Hill

About the Book“No one can mysteriously disappear leaving no trace. It isn’t realistic.”“You’re right, Emily,” her grandfather said thoughtfully. “It isn’t realistic. However, a good many things happen in this world that are not realistic, things supernatural.”
Emily, Allan, Jill, Joey, and Anna have grown up on their grandfather’s tales of ancestors who mysteriously disappeared from Creighton Hill, the plantation home that has been in their family for centuries. When Grampa’s death forces them to move into Creighton Hill, the truth about the supposed disappearances is the first thing on their minds. Allan, Jill, Joey, and Anna’s, that is. As for Emily, why must they keep at their supernatural hogwash?
Could it be that their family really does just have an unusual history of early deaths? Most people seem to think so. But Grampa’s research has uncovered something different.
When mysterious writing matching descriptions found in ancient accounts begins appearing to the children, they know something’s up. They must find out what really happened to their ancestors, and work together to discover the reason behind the mysterious writings.
Creighton Hill is the first book of the Time Captivestrilogy, a tale of faith, family, fantasy, and a fight for truth and freedom.
Release DateCreighton Hill, Time Captives book 1, will release on June 8th, 2015. Stay tuned on Morgan’s blog and Facebook page for more information and sneak peeks.

What is this book about?Following their grandpa’s death, four siblings set out to discover the truth behind the mysterious disappearances of their ancestors throughout history. But their teenage sister’s skepticism only complicates things, especially when she becomes unwillingly involved in the discovery.Creighton Hill is the first book in my fantasy trilogy Time Captives. It’s sort of Narnia meets Tuck Everlasting meets Return to Gone-Away, with some Pirates & Faith, Dragons of Starlight, LOTR, and Ilyon Chronicles thrown in for good measure. It has been fun to develop a story with so many different kinds of things mixed together.
Who will enjoy it?Hopefully readers of all ages who enjoy adventures. While it doesn’t have the same feel as most non-magical fantasy, all the things that happen that could be considered magic are really either miracle-type events or science. So I think readers of fantasy, both magical and non-magical, as well as lovers of history (I bring in American history in a rather different sort of way) will enjoy Creighton Hill and the rest of the Time Captivestrilogy.
Who designed the cover?
I designed it myself, though I did have some input from my family. It was fun coming up with ways to design the text that really meant something to the story, particularly where it says “Time Captives.” It was a lot of work to get it all just so, but it was worth it.

C is for Courage

I am hoping this summer to write and edit Courage and Corruption. I have the basic outline already made up and I even have written the prologue, which I would like to share with you today.

PrologueThe young have always played an important part in the history of Taelis. It was never truer than in this, my third tale: a tale of five siblings who were sent to hide from a war, and ended up leading a nation.
It starts many years after my last tale; yet, the two are very much intertwined. Brianna and her husband, John (formally known as The Archer) had ruled the country well and in peace. Yet, providence did not see fit to bless them with children. As they grew older, people began to fear that the kingdom would descend into war and mayhem, as it had in its early days.
God, who is the author of our lives, orchestrated everything so that even the dark days of fear was used to bring about his purpose for young Christopher, his family, and the country of Taelis. There is no lesson I need to be reminded of more on the days when I long to return to my homeland. I must remember that God is working all out for good, even my exile. I will complete the task set before me, to set these stories down on paper for all to read.
For all those who are in your youth and reading these words, remember that you are never too young to start following God’s plans for your life. Follow the example of the siblings in this tale who overcame great obstacles to do the tasks God had prepared for you, before the creation of the world.
