Ram Aa Gaye ❤️

The maelstrom of emotions that I currently feel immersed in , is difficult to describe. But amongst this myriad emotional chaos , I recognize a few that I want to share. I feel elated, there is pride, there is regret and low key sadness (in retrospect so to speak, it was such a long due) but above all I feel unbridled devotion and faith that connects me with so many Indians, NRIs, the Indian diaspora and even non- Hindus who just like me had unwavering faith in Ramlalla’s cause.

The Rest is confetti..

So, I am re-visiting this show called the haunting of the hill house. It’s about horror experiences of a family and how that leads them to be further dysfunctional and even disgruntled especially the five siblings. In the end of the show the main protagonist; the youngest sibling says this line to her siblings who kept fighting each other and blaming each other for their situation and she says that I love you all and you love me the same and the rest is just confetti.
This line is very simple and yet very profound.
It touched me so much that If I was into tattoos, I would have gotten this tattooed.
Here is how I interpret this metaphor :-
There are people in our lives we love, it could be romantic or otherwise( ..family.. friends )and we have our differences, fights & remonstrances with them but outside of our love for each other, everything else is fleeting.
It sure can be colorful and overwhelming & at times blinding and probably dancing in front of our eyes more often than it should.
But if we look at it right, these are just colorful moments of life that flits and dances, falls and finally fades in the background like snow in those glass decor crystal
globes
Most of the moments of our lives aren’t linear, or black or white as we think them to be.
This quote is about finding hope, innocence and forgiveness in the final reckoning and moving on.
The rest is the stuff that falls around us, and flits away into nothing (confetti).
It’s the love that stays. It’s the love we share with them that matters.
Further applying this to our break-ups and heartbreaks and people we left behind, feel your true emotions in the moment but don’t let the painful moments define you rather let them fall around like a confetti; real but also settled. In those moments that love was real and felt; you loved them, and they loved you (completely) and that is what matters. Everything else (the fact it didn’t sustain, breakup, fights, sourness) are just small fragments scattered around this beautiful sentiment called life.

Old School Love

Winters of the North!

It is that time of the year where summers would transcend into a short-lived Autumn and then the short-lived fall would sublimely converge into full-blown winters. This grey period, a fleeting period when it has just started to get cold in North, is the most beautiful time of the year. It is the time when twilights would get slightly chiller than usual, the kinds one would want to take out one’s pashmina stole and wrap it around before going for evening walks in a cotton Tee.
The kind of cold that sometimes is accompanied by a little breeze, full of the sweet smell of Parijaat. A smell that’s so synonymous with festivity that Winters would eventually bring along. It is a time of utter confusion because one would juggle between an impulse of turning on the fan to switching it off almost immediately and getting the right temperature of AC is a constant struggle during this time. It this time around you know very soon it will be time to bid adieu to AC’s and fans at least until next year, and the former would pave way for another ritual opening bed trunks and reaching out for woolens and this would invariably fill the room with nostalgia synonym naphthalene.
Winters’ beginning is also marked by a strong shift in the food namely vegetable, fruits and delicacies. You would see colorful signboards popping around in localities and local market catering to local winter delicacies like Carrot Cake, Peanut Chikkis (solidified peanut jaggery and sesame bars) and the famous mustard saag.
It is that time of the year when sundowners would have a foggy transition into nights. A beautiful sheet of fog would cover the night and one would be able to spot the diffused shimmer of Chinese lights that is visible almost everywhere in the colony indicating the impending winter and the joy of Diwali it brings along.
Talking about festivals, this is also that time of the year where festivals would start from right from Ganpati, to Navratri (celebrated as Garba, Durga Puja, Ramlila skits across different regions of India) culminating into Dussehra, followed by Diwali and the Indian Wedding season (auspicious time of the year). This whole quarter of the year ; the festivity is just in the air and quite literally so for the air is filled with delicious fragrances coming from scrumptious food being prepared in various community kitchens or the local pandals (enclosed areas in public places that serve tableau for various festivals and is often free for public to visit), or the lightening & the décor that covers an entire neighborhood along with individual houses or the festive music sounds of Garba & Dandiya beats, Ululu (an imitation of sound of owls which is considered auspicious), dhaak and conch sounds at the holy Durga Aarti and dialogues from Ramayana coming from the local Ramlila scenes (enactment of Ramayana). This sheer assortment of music, food, lights, smells, décor & euphoria of the local markets are again overwhelming in a unique flavor that one can and must experience only in Indian winters predominantly in the North of India.

Let’s Talk Love !!

Saw this post by Terribly Tiny Tales (TTT) that over beautify love. Thought it was important to address this ! Here is my open letter to Love !
No I disagree! I disagree to the fact that Loving someone is > convincing yourself to love someone.
Sometimes the latter is better than a fiery crackling organic chemistry.
Love is hyped ! It is respect that is more profound .You eventually start loving someone who is a better human, is more dependable, who will do groceries with you and not gonna leave you bare feet while chasing a rock concert.
It is equally stupid of how most movies portray love, where girls end up chasing a Bunny and friendzone someone like Ayan.
Life is no ..Jawani Deewani and slow burn love is anyday more mature , anchored and last longer than a radioactive
love that disintegrate with the same speed it started with !!

MY Love Letter to Indian Flag 🇮🇳

Growing up ..my experience with Nationalism and Patriotism was up close.
Not that i had knowledge of it at a deeper level, for me the National flag was the easiest symbol of it.
My mother is govt officer and i used to often privilege that roam hop on with her to All India Radio.
That whole enclave was surrounded with high and mighty bureaucratic buildings like All India Radio, Parliament Street, Teen Murti etc.
But for me the show steller was always the Indian National Flag
The pride it used to instill in me .. whenever i used to look at it…my chest would swell with Pride, with gratitude for those who lost their lives protecting this great nation. I used to be awestruck for a few minutes with the regality it exudes.
The feeling is till date the same, for me the sight of national flag is unparalleled beautiful and regal
Thus if you know me,you would know that my love for the Flag, it’s an important part of my study, my car where people usually keep religious articles..but i do feel that Nation comes first.
And now thanks to this #amritmahotsava and #harghartiranga. It’s finally hoisted High at the roof of our building
Also I feel I am amongst those lucky ones who have the independence and freedom to hoist the flag freely while those who sacrificed their lives for it… couldn’t even hold it
कुर्बान मेरी जान तुझपे, शाद रहे तू

#KanikaReviews~ Ten Commandments of Evil ~ By Vignesh

A decent page turner
So after a long time I am reviewing a decent indie Horror book especially in space of Indian Literature
Ten Commandments of Evil by Vignesh Sivasankar is a book inspired by the former’s extensive travel experience across India culminating into 10 commandments of evil in form of 10 different short stories
Most of the stories are towards a dark end where supernatural is the protaganist and the evil won
Things I loved about the book:-
Different folklores of different states as heard and mixed with figments of creativity by the author is what transpires into The ten commandments of evils. I love the fact , author tried to inculcate the regional language of that particular state so as to retain the stories authenticity
Horror or elements of supernatural in this book is relatable and everyday like which makes me more scary
