Creative Writing workshops

Hi everyone, just to let you all know that following the successful Creative Writing "taster" session I did for Get Creative week in May, I'm now going to be leading a full Creative Writing course, again at Wallasey Central Library, Wirral.  It will run for eight weeks and will focus on all aspects of writing fiction, including plot, character, description and dialogue.



The cost will be £10 per person for each of the eight one-hour sessions, with an option to attend individual sessions or the full course.  This will include all materials and a certificate on completion of the course.

Successful launch for The Coming of the Spirits

The Coming of the Spirits successfully launched at award-winning Linghams Booksellers on Saturday 1 December. Sequel to High Spirits, itself a winner at the Georgina Hawtrey-Woore Awards, it proved a popular choice for children, teenagers and adults alike. There are still some signed copies in-store for anyone who missed the signing! We also sold some more copies of my picture book for younger readers, My Favourite People.

My thanks to Becky, Lisa and all the staff for another warm welcome and the lovely cuppa! I hope to be back at Linghams soon.

My Favourite People - Storytime and Signing

Hi everyone, just to let you all know I will be doing a Storytime and signing session for my picture book My Favourite People at Linghams Booksellers in Heswall, Wirral on Sat 11 August at 11.00am. This will be its first reading in any bookshop ANYWHERE! Suitable for children of up to age seven and their families - though who knows, there might be some copies of my books for older kids around as well!

My first picture book!

Hi everyone, hope you're all reading happily and looking forward to pancakes this Shrove Tuesday. Just to let you all know that my first picture book for younger children (5-7s) is being published early summer. It's called "My Favourite People", is illustrated by Simon Goodway and is a fun journey through early childhood and the friends and family who make it possible. It teaches children to look at relationships and value their importance and comes complete with suggested activities for bringing the book to life, along the way covering topics ranging from animals and the environment to baking and having your hair cut!

The book day that defied a storm!

Librarians, volunteers, young people and I defied Storm Doris last week to make it to Bebington Central Library on the Wirral, where I was holding my author day. The Friends of the Library had organised everything brilliantly and we had a fun day for half-term that was well-attended by local families and included:

Two author talks

Two Q&A sessions

Creative Writing and a Story Hunt around the library

Tuck shop and coffee shop

A book stall courtesy of Linghams Booksellers where I signed copies of the Spirits novels and my short story collections


As always it was great to meet with my readers and hear their own views on writing.
