Many adults find it difficult to express their emotions. What’s wrong with a good cry every now and again? 😢 Being comfortable enough to express our emotions without appearing “weak” is hard to do in our society.

Let’s help our children express their emotions healthily, for their development. Understanding and managing feelings can lead to better emotional regulation, improved relationships, and greater overall well-being. Here are 3 points on how to support children in recognizing and expressing their emotions in positive ways.

1. Create a Safe and Open Environment

Children need to feel safe and understood to express their emotions freely. Establish a home or classroom environment where they know it’s okay to talk about their feelings without judgment.

Listen Actively: Pay full attention when children talk about their feelings. Show empathy and validate their emotions.

Be a Role Model: Demonstrate healthy emotional expression by sharing your feelings and coping strategies.

2. Teach Emotional Vocabulary

The Power of Perception: Clothing acts as a visual language, conveying messages about our identity before we even utter a word. Think about it: a tailored suit exudes professionalism and authority, while a bohemian dress suggests a free spirit. Our clothing choices shape the perceptions others have of us and can influence how we are treated and respected in various contexts.

Cultural Significance: Clothing holds significant cultural meaning, serving as a link to our heritage, traditions, and community. Are We Realistic in Getting Ready for Christmas? 🤶🏽🌲🧑🏽‍🎄

Merry Christmas and other traditions

As I woke up this morning, I thought about all of the things that I wanted to get done before this week is over; to be ready for Christmas. I groaned and tried to go back to sleep.

I had to remind myself that this was a season that I love and if I don’t get everything done, it’s OK!

Then I wondered how many of my parent friends were stressing about the same things: shopping, Christmas cards,, buying gifts, wrapping gifts, hmm what else? 🤷🏽‍♀️

I then decided that I would do the things that I enjoyed and the things that I didn’t enjoy as much, I would work hard to make sure that I enjoyed them while I did them. For me, that’s wrapping gifts. It’s like a nightmare that never ends. 😆

Here’s a list of 7 items that I decided to focus on:Planning Ahead: Create a holiday schedule to manage tasks, events, and family gatherings. This can help reduce stress and ensure everything is organized. ✅Gift Planning: Make a list of gifts for family members and friends. Consider budget-friendly options and explore DIY gift ideas for a personal touch. ✅Decoration Fun: Involve the kids in decorating the house. It’s a great way to spend quality time together and create a festive atmosphere.Family Traditions: Incorporate and share holiday traditions with your children. Whether it’s baking cookies, watching a favorite movie, or going caroling, these activities create lasting memories. ✅Self-Care Moments: Amid the holiday hustle, find time for self-care. Whether it’s a quiet moment with a book or a short walk, taking care of yourself is crucial during this busy season. ✅Budgeting: Set a realistic budget for holiday expenses. This includes gifts, decorations, and any additional activities. Stick to your budget to avoid unnecessary financial stress. ✅Gratitude Reflection: Take a moment to reflect on the things you’re grateful for as a family. This can foster a sense of appreciation and mindfulness during the holiday season.

Knowing how stressed I can become at Christmas, particularly with spending, I started saving a little each month at the beginning of the year. My daughter and I go out on Black Friday and shop together while spending time with each other. It’s a tradition that we love ❤. If I’ve put a gift list together (which I did this year), then I’m 80% done on that day! 🎉🎉

There used to be places in the malls, where you could get gifts wrapped pretty inexpensively. Haven’t seen those since Covid.

Oh well… Back to addressing my Christmas cards.

You can always tell when the holidays are coming…

You feel a little out of sorts… Maybe melancholy… 😞 😢

Why now and how do you handle the ‘holiday blues‘?

Here are 5 tips to get you through the holidays: Embrace Change: Allow yourself to adapt to changes in traditions or plans. Sometimes, new experiences can bring unexpected joy. Focus on Gratitude: Reflect on the positive aspects of your life. Gratitude can shift your perspective and improve your overall mood.Limit Social Media: Reduce exposure to idealized versions of the holidays on social media. Real life is often more nuanced, and comparisons can contribute to the blues.Get Moving: Physical activity releases endorphins, which can improve your mood.
