Colorado Shooter – Where is Your Mother?
Ever wonder what is causing people to resort to so much violence in our world today? I was hardly on my online readings before I saw numerous articles regarding the shooting in Aurora Colorado. My heart goes out to the families of the victims who were killed, as well as the audience who had to witness the insanity that occurred.
I kept wondering what kind of home training the shooter had (or didn’t have), and what was his relationship with his parents, particularly his mom? Feel free to share your thoughts or Tweet me @cgwwbook
For those of you who did not read/hear about this tragedy, here’s a link: http://www.cnn.com/2012/07/20/us/colorado-theater-shooting/index.html?hpt=hp_t1

Healthy Eating Is NOT More Expensive..
Yes I admit, I believe there is a link between bright, alert kids and healthy eating habits. Healthy kids are usually much more alert than kids who have potato chips and soda for breakfast or lunch. However, we have always been told that it is more expensive to eat healthy foods instead of junk foods. The U.S. Department of Agriculture has confirmed it.
“A study, recently released by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Economic Research Service, found that healthy foods like beans, carrots, milk, and yogurt are actually less expensive than ice cream sandwiches, cinnamon buns, and soda.”

Michelle Obama’s New Book About Healthy Eating & Family
I believe in healthy eating and it was wonderful reading the article where First Lady, Michelle Obama, shared her views from her new book, American Grown: The Story of the White House Kitchen Garden and Gardens Across America with several reporters. If you haven’t read the book or seen this article, here’s the link: http://thestir.cafemom.com/big_kid/138606/michelle_obama_doesnt_want_you?utm_medium=sm&utm_source=twitter&utm_content=cafemom
What I liked most was her advice that we need to grow our own vegetables, and second we should eat at least one meal a day as a family! I absolutely agree.
Read it and tell me what you think.
BTW, my newest book, “the Pampered Prince: Moms Create a GREAT Relationship with Your Son” is now available on amazon.com/dp/0985425857/
Go ahead and fix that mother/son relationship!

Plain Talk About Spanking
As a parent, I believe in a good mix of love and discipline. I ran across a website/article that disagrees with the values of corporal punishment and gives reasons why. Parents and Teachers Against Violence in Education (PTAVE) supports this article as well.
Let me know what you think.

America the Beautiful 2: The Thin Commandments
As I tried to eat “healthy” during the Memorial Day weekend, I ran across an email that talked about the unhealthy dieting habits of Americans, particularly women and especially our teenaged girls. Once they mentioned teens, I was especially interested, when I thought back to how my weight seesawed during my teen/twenty something years. I always felt overweight especially in my perception of how I looked versus how the models looked on the magazines that I loved to read!
There were two San Jose, CA high school essay winners on body image from EDRC (eating disorder education outfit). Here’s one:
“Perfectly Imperfect”
You don’t know how much of my time is spent thinking and dreaming. Lying in bed creating a picture in my mind of what my life will become one day, just like any other girl like you and me. And at times our dreams are shot down, at times even crushed to the point where you feel like you just can’t get back up. Day by day we get judged and criticized by our appearance, why? Because we’re not “perfect”.
Well define perfect, am I not skinny enough? Is my skin not perfect? Is my hair not pretty? We feel the need to try to satisfy others, people who don’t take the time to look beyond our appearance. I will not let someone label me as not perfect because I am perfectly imperfect. Every single imperfection to you is just another thing that makes me unique, we are all special in our own way.
We are all beautiful and should not let anyone tell us otherwise, life is beautiful and so are you and when you can’t seem to find it look the person in the eye staring back at you in the reflection on the wall and smile back because it’s been there all along.

Recognizing Adolescent Depression
Parents: Are you able to recognize the signs of depression in your teen?
Here are some signs:
1. Physical manifestations of clinical depression are: headaches, muscle aches, low energy, sudden change in appetite or weight, insomnia or hypersomnia
2. Your teen may also seem restless, irritable, anxious, or belligerent
3. Your teen may have feelings of sadness, hopelessness, despair, worthlessness, or lack of interest in usual activities
4. Your teen is skipping classes or not paying attention in class

I was searching on Youtube and found this video by a really angry dad. It’s includes explicit language, so listen without young ears around you. This is why I wrote, Trying to Stay Sane While Raising Your Teen.
