Ministry Succession & Spiritual Warfare

The reality of leadership transitions is never far from my mind. Every leadership position is temporary. When ministry succession happens, we must be prepared for not just the organizational and relational issues involved but also the spiritual warfare that will come. As I reshare this video, let’s remember these important leadership principles.

Finish What You Start

We finished the Victory Conference in Manila last week, and it was wonderful celebrating with our Every Nation family in the Philippines. As we prepare for the Build North American Conference in Orlando, Florida, in two weeks, I want to share this video again as an important reminder to rest. Rest is a blessed, holy, and godly aspect of how we finish what we start. You’re not truly finished until you rest. I pray that before you move on to the next thing, you will make time to rest.

Missionary Monks by Edward L. Smither

I want to feature this book from Ed Smither again. I encourage all pastors, campus missionaries, and cross-cultural missionaries to read this book to help us think more missionally.

Why is a book on missionary monks relevant for Christians today, . . . ? As we journey through the pages of mission history—especially from about AD 500 to 1500—it’s impossible to do so without stumbling over quite a few missionary monks. In fact, I would argue that if we don’t have monks in this period, then we really have little to talk about in the way of Christian mission.

Creating a Culture of Discipleship

As we celebrate 40 years of Victory at the Victory Conference in Manila this week, I want to share a message about discipleship that I did a couple of years ago.

Since our original outreach in 1984, discipleship has been at the heart of what we do at Victory—and is instilled in our Every Nation culture. It’s important for us to remember why we do what we do and who we do it for.

I hope this message helps you build a healthy culture of discipleship in your church and campus ministry.

Unreasonable Hospitality by Will Guidara

Will Guidara, former co-owner of renowned restaurant Eleven Madison Park, shares insights on hospitality and leadership that can help any business (and ministry) succeed. One of my sons originally encouraged me to read this book. Boy, am I glad I did. This has challenged me and helped shape my thoughts on hospitality and giving. It’s so good that I’m recommending it again. Enjoy.

Criticize the behavior, not the person. Praise in public; criticize in private. Praise with emotion, criticize without emotion.

The Importance of Pentecost Sunday

A quick Google search reveals that there aren’t many Evangelical/Charismatic Pentecostal Sunday sermons. Most Pentecost sermons are from Roman Catholic or Pentecost Oneness churches. When we ignore Pentecost Sunday, we miss a great opportunity to honor the Holy Spirit and to educate our congregations on the power to be a witness. Today’s Think Like a Leader focuses on the four sounds of Pentecost in Acts 2:
