Bitten by Devils by Lester Sumrall

Bitten by Devils is a true story about a Filipino woman whose supernatural deliverance from demonic attacks resulted in a huge revival in Manila. The late Lester Sumrall was the American evangelist who prayed over her and retells the story.

NOTE: While I do not necessarily agree with all doctrines or methods in this book, I absolutely endorse the results and believe that deliverance miracles continue to transform lives and impact nations for the glory of God.

The glory and praise for this modern-day miracle we unreservedly give to God and the Lord Jesus Christ.

My Father’s Son: A Generational Journey by Wayne Alcorn

Wayne’s newest book about the Father-heart of God narrates stories of his life, his relationship with his father (who passed away during the writing), and the transformational power of God’s love.

All of the men who shared their stories as I prepared this book are of mature age now. They are thriving in life, but that didn’t happen by accident. It’s only because they discovered the pathway to wholeness—the love of their heavenly Father:

I sought the Lord, and he answered me;
he delivered me from all my fears.
Those who look to him are radiant;
Their faces are never covered with shame (Psalm 34:4–5).

In the biblical records of his earthly ministry, it becomes obvious that Jesus’ purpose was to show us the Father—and the Father’s heart—and bring us home.

Lead Like a Shepherd by Larry Osborne

Larry Osborne has a way of making me both laugh and repent through his writing. In Lead Like a Shepherd, he gives a practical example from 1 Peter on how we should view spiritual leadership. I encourage you to read this to help you lead well.

Unfortunately, when my truth becomes more important than the truth, the Bible loses its objective authority.

Three Principles for Spiritual Leaders

Too often, pastors and mission leaders try to find shortcuts to spiritual leadership, usually to their own detriment and to the detriment of others.

Jesus’ life, example, and words in John 7 show us three important foundational principles for pastors and spiritual leaders:

Seek faithfulness, not fame.Wait on God’s timing, not just any time.Act in private, not always in public.

“We Stand in Awe” by Every Nation Music

A classic song from Every Nation Music’s first global album in 2016. (This was recorded live in Nashville, so of course there is a banjo! Deal with it.)

Pastor: The Theology and Practice of Ordained Ministry by William H. Willimon

Here’s another Every Nation Seminary Pastoral Theology textbook that I highly recommend for all pastors.

If pastors know whose they are, where they come from, and why they are here, they will better know what to do, here, now.

A Solution to Weariness

I get to travel all over the world and connect with really great leaders. As soon as I land in a new nation and have face-to-face time with the pastor, I like to ask questions about life, family, ministry, and burdens. It seems that weariness is increasingly a common experience for global pastors and leaders.

In Psalm 69, David openly acknowledges his weariness and gives us clues on how to overcome and endure.
