Why do I think my home is creepy? by Barbara Edwards #Halloween
It’s no surprise that living in Connecticut contributed to my interest in the paranormal. this small state is a hotbed of weird and unusual happenings. Where do I start? Many towns have cemeteries that host grave from the early 1700s. Settlers had their own superstitions that they brought from their countries of origins. When a town had reports of a family dying from no known cause, the village elders and family concluded it was a vampire. the first girl who died was dug up and her bones burned tot stop the deaths. Strangely, it worked. Hmmm.
A sandbank collapsed to reveal coffins buried away from consecrated land. When open the coffins held skeletons with he bones rearranged. The femurs were on the chest in the shape of a cross, the skull, placed on the pelvis. This was a European belief to keep the dead from returning as a vampire.
Many cemeteries like the one in Burlington have a resident ghost. This one is called the Green Lady. No one knows if she is buried there or if her murdered body was dumped in the swamp where she hovers. She cries for justice. My sons actually went there to debunk the legend and got scared spit-less by her screams. or maybe they scared each other.
How about the famous Charter Oak? when the first farmer plowed the land around the massive oak, the local Indian Chief approached him to ask the tree be left to grow. The reason? It was vital to their magic ceremonies. The farmer wisely let it alone and it became a part of history.
Have you heard of the Moodus moans? loud sounds come from under the earth at random times. hunters have looked into caves, but found no real reason for the sounds.
The Connecticut Trail from the Boston area to Windsor and Hartford is haunted by those seeking a new home who died and were buried in graves long lost to memory.
Dudleyville, CT
Dudleytown is famous for its haunted memory. the town had a history of madness and no longer exists. People ofter visit the site and return reports of odd feelings, an atmosphere of fear and loathing. How about the beach on the Long Island Shore where the British chained convicts to rocks at low tide and left them to drown when the tide came in. People hear their screams of anguish when the tide is rising. Creepy.
Did you notice I didn’t give you the names of the towns? Many residents don’t want to have their town known for paranormal activity. I can respect that. I don’t want anyone checking out my house because its haunted.
I’m learning more and more about my home state as I continue research on “Jacob” my next Rhodes End Series book and “Daniel” the following book.
Ancient Awakening by Barbara Edwards Rhodes End Series Book 1

Guess where I found promo by Barbara Edwards
Barbara EdwardsAlright, I wanted a catchy hook to drag you to this post.
I’m sharing info with you today.
It’s not easy to find those promo sites where you can post your new release, get a review or cheaply send tweets to thousands.
I didn’t purposely collect so many places.
When I knew my short Christmas story, Dixie’s Gift, would be released this autumn, I started collecting places. Theses are all from my twitter feed. Every one of them followed me and I followed them back. When a likely place popped up, I added it to my favorites with a bookmark.
Yikes! Little did I know I’d find such a varied treasure lode.
I’m not saying I’ve used them all, or recommend one or the other. I’m saying I checked all of them and am using a few I found good for me.

MYSTERIES OF THE MACABRE, Halloween anthology, presented by Alicia Dean #AHAShare, #MFRWauthors
Please welcome my guest Alicia Dean as she tells us about her new anthology. A Halloween Anthology – Six Stories by Six Authors
MYSTERIES OF THE MACABRE
Authors Alicia Dean, Leah St. James, Alexa Day, Renci Dunham, Rohn Federbush, and Elvy Howard share Halloween mayhem in 6 short stories:
A masked stranger ~ Teen angst ~ Ghostly appearances
Hot Halloween sex ~ A tropical nightmare ~ Visions from the past
href=”https://barbaraedwardscomments.files.wordpress.com/2015/09/halloween_cover_lowres.jpg”>
I LOVE Halloween. When my kids were little, we made the most of it with costumes, trick or treating, decorating, haunted houses, and scary movies. The three of them still love Halloween, haunted houses, and scary movies. (Well, so do I ☺)
I was thrilled at the opportunity to be a part of this anthology. I love that there is such a mix of genres and styles. Hope you enjoy!
I am giving away a free ebook copy of MYSTERIES OF THE MACABRE ~ To enter, tell me in the comments whether you do or do not like Halloween and why. Winner will be drawn on Wednesday.

My story is Scarred:
Gothic romance
Blurb:
Sometimes, the most painful scars are the ones beneath the skin.
When Natalie Jayne moved away from her home town ten years earlier, she left behind painful memories, along with Simon, the man she loved. Now, she’s back on Halloween night to attend a memorial marking the one-year anniversary of the tragic passing of her childhood friend, Jessica. Rumors that Simon was responsible for Jessica’s death unnerve her. Even more disturbing is her unsettling attraction to a masked stranger she meets at the event. Her gift may be the key to unlocking the truth, but will it also lead to heartbreak?
Excerpt:
Simon stalked toward the balcony, badly in need of fresh air. He had been a recluse this past year and being around so many people stole his ability to breathe. He eagerly swept open the balcony doors and stepped out—and saw her. Her profile faced him. The full moon wrapped her in its glow, her features clearly defined. Smooth, pale skin and full, red lips.
He must have made a sound, because she turned an alarmed gaze on him.
Her gloved hand flew to her chest, and she gave a self-conscious laugh. “Oh my, you startled me.”
She was stunning in a Marie Antoinette costume and had fortunately foregone a wig. Her ebony hair was swept back from her face with a few stray tendrils caressing her cheeks. Her beauty stole his breath as effectively as the crowd had, and it took a few moments before he could speak. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to frighten you.”
“You didn’t frighten me. I just thought I was alone.” She gestured to the opaque glass door that separated them from the partygoers. “I was feeling claustrophobic, so I came out here.”
He smiled. “So you chose frostbite over claustrophobia?”
She laughed again—a dazzling sound that had his knees threatening to buckle. Her blue eyes sparkled, and her features lit with delight. She was a sight to behold. For one brief, insane moment, he wished he could spend the rest of his life making her laugh, putting that glow on her face.
She’d matured nicely from the awkward but lovely teen he’d known. Without the cloak, every perfect curve was revealed. She wrapped her arms around herself, her teeth chattering in the frigid air.
Simon took off his coat and stepped toward her. The scent of vanilla and spice rose to his nostrils, sending heat rushing through his blood. He pushed back an urge to step closer, to sweep her up in his arms, taste those delectable lips. Instead, he draped the coat over her shoulders. “Here. Take this so you don’t freeze to death.”
“Thank you.” She accepted the coat, then glanced to the doors. “I suppose I should go back inside.”
He bit his tongue to keep from begging her to stay.

BIO
Award-winning, multi-published author Alicia Dean began writing stories as a child. At age 11, she wrote her first ever romance (featuring a hero who looked just like Elvis Presley, and who happened to share the name of Elvis’ character in the movie, Tickle Me), and she still has the tattered, pencil-written copy. Alicia is from Moore, Oklahoma and now lives in Edmond. She has three grown children and a huge network of supportive friends and family. She writes mostly contemporary suspense and paranormal, but has also written in other genres, including a few vintage historicals. She is a freelance editor in addition to being an editor for The Wild Rose Press.
Other than reading and writing, her passions are Elvis Presley, MLB, NFL (she usually works in a mention of one or all three into her stories) and watching her favorite televisions shows like Vampire Diaries, Justified, Sons of Anarchy, Haven, New Girl, The Mindy Project, and Dexter (even though it has sadly ended, she will forever be a fan). Some of her favorite authors are Michael Connelly, Dennis Lehane, Lee Child, Lisa Gardner, Sharon Sala, Jordan Dane, Ridley Pearson, Joseph Finder, and Jonathan Kellerman…to name a few.

Dixie’s Gift by Barbara Edwards #Cover reveal #TWRP #AHAShare
Dixie’s Gift
The cover for Dixie’s Gift is a sweet, well-drawn depiction of my dog, Dixie, a beautiful female Belgian Malinois that we adopted. She was my companion and friend for more then ten years before cancer took her.
Everyone who’s lost a beloved pet will understand my sorrow.
I turned the feelings into a short Christmas story of lost love and hope.
Dixie’s Gift is coming soon from The Wild Rose Press.
Blurb: Ellen Carter deeply grieves for her husband Dan, but at least she still has Dixie, her beloved Malinois. However, soon Dixie leaves her too. But the faithful dog cannot rest easy in heaven while her mistress is unhappy. Dixie pleads with the Archangel Michael to let her send help, and intercedes for Ellen in the only way she can. But will Ellen get the message, and more importantly, will she accept Dixie’s gift?
Sexy newcomer Michael Burke can barely take enough time from his successful restaurant for a decent night’s sleep, let alone romance. Still, he is intrigued by the beautiful widow and can’t resist entering her shop. Sparks fly, and when Ellen has an accident in a snowstorm, he comes to her rescue. Trapped by a blizzard and aided by Dixie’s Gift, Ellen and Michael find more than shelter–they find love.Barbara Edwards

Stand behind the “Thin, Blue Line” by Barbara Edwards #Police
Stand behind the “Thin, Blue Line” by Barbara Edwards
Another police officer died in the line of duty.
Where is the cry of rage?
Where is the protest that a man who kissed his wife and children good-bye in the morning, is dead?
And the reason?
He was part of the ‘Thin, Blue Line’ that separates chaos from civilization.
I can drive my car because the blue line keeps bad drivers off the streets.
I can go to the store and bring home my purchases because they stand between me and thieves.
The ‘Thin Blue Line” is there to take drug dealers to jail and save my children from their harm.
I may not carry a gun, but I don’t have to because of the ‘Thin, Blue Line.’
I am sick of those who blather on about gun control when they don’t help solve the problem. Another law won’t do it. Enable the police to enforce the laws on the books.
How many other dangers do those wearing the uniform face daily?
I admit I’m prejudiced. I’m married to a retire police sergeant. I thank God every day that he survived his years on the force to retire.
I pray for those still facing that threat. I pray for the families of those who’ve been killed or hurt.
I condemn those who think chanting ‘Pig, Pig, Oink, Oink, Bang Bang’ is righteous.
We need the Thin, Blue Line.
Spread the word.
The “Thin, blue Line protects us all.
Not by color, religion, politics, or sex, but by the fact that protecting us is what they do.
Remember that when you dial 911.
Remember that when you get a traffic ticket.
Remember that when you need protection.
I’m proud of every officer who puts his or her life on the line for me.
Thank you.

A tribute to Dixie, my dog, on National Dog Day by Barbara Edwards #TWRP #MFRW
Today is National Dog Day and I’m posting photos of Dixie, the inspiration for my upcoming release ‘Dixie’s Gift’. Dixie’s Gift is my Christmas Story from The Wild Rose Press.
Dixie was my dog, a beautiful Belgian Malinois. She slept at my feet, took me for walks, loved the people I love and held a large portion of my heart.
I’m not sure how old she was since we didn’t know when we adopted her, but she lived with us for ten years.
Dixie loved to travel. From Maine to Florida to Colorado and Utah, Dixie hung her head out the window of the truck.
When she was diagnosed with bone cancer, I cried for a week. She crossed the rainbow bridge with me petting her head. It hurt, but I owed it to her to stand by those last moments.

Itchy feet and Lobster? by Barbara Edwards
Although I posted this on another blog, I wanted to share it here, too.Coast of Maine
I’ve mentioned before that my husband gets bored when he doesn’t have anything to do. The heat wave we’ve been experiencing made it impossible to do outside chores and he already painted the living room a lovely shade of ivory. He asked me if I’d like to take a ride to Maine for fresh lobster. Since it’s difficult to write with him placing through the house I agreed a lobster dinner would be terrific. The trip is about four hours from where we live in Connecticut. i assumed a drive up and back along one of the scenic routes.
Whoops. While I packed my laptop, he loaded the truck camper on our Dodge Ram. He mentioned casually that I should take a change of clothes. Thankfully I interpreted Williams Parkthat to mean three days.
Of we went. then he says he reserved a campsite. Okay. I sit back to enjoy the ride. For some reason the traffic past Boston and Cape Cod was light. The roadwork that seems a constant repair, slowed us for very little time.
We set up in the campground and headed out for dinner. I had this picture in my head of lobster. There are lobster places all over. Lobster rolls, lobster bisque, mac and cheese with lobster on signs galore.
Here is the big but. These are your usual tourist eateries geared to handling the summer crowd. You walk in, stand in line, order over the counter, pay and wait for your tray. You take it inside in the AC or out on a patio, usually overlooking the water. I’m ready. My husband wants a restaurant. A sit-down, waiter, table with tablecloth restaurant.
He didn’t find one. Not on the first cruise through town. Not in the second town.
I’m hungry, but I know better than to ask when we’ll eat.
He’s on a quest.
He doesn’t want to eat outside in the heat. He wants what he wants. I don’t care. I just want lobster.
Today we’re stopping at a lobster pound, getting them steamed, grabbing side-dished from the supermarket and eating at the campground.
To keep me happy. He drove to the oldest lighthouse in Maine.
Beautiful park maintained by volunteers from town.
I’m glad we went. I got two thousand words done on my WIP and lobster.

#Guest Kim McDermott, author of Hiding #TWRP
Welcome to Kim McDermott, a fellow Rose.
Why I Wrote Hiding?
Unfortunately, many women in modern society experience dating abuse as does Teresa Worthington in Hiding. Teresa learns to stand up for herself and gain independence by successfully pursuing a talent for painting. The idea for the story literally started with a “blank canvas” the brick and stucco back wall of a courtyard behind a Parisian hotel. This wall just tempted the imagination and invited creativity.
Because, like my character, I also like to paint murals, I wanted to pursue the idea of creating beauty out of bare bricks.
About the author
Kim McDermott was born and raised in Charleston, SC where she graduated valedictorian of Middleton High School and cum laudi from the College of Charleston with a B.A. in English. She received a Masters Degree in Counseling from the Citadel and is a Licensed Professional Counselor in S.C. She has nine years of experience in guidance. She is also a Nationally Certified High School English and Language Arts teacher who worked for Charleston Country School District for 28 years as both an English teacher and a guidance counselor. She is retired and currently teaches English and Creative Writing part-time as an Adjunct English Professor at Trident Technical College.
She has free lanced for numerous regional and national publications including: The State, Charleston Magazine, Standard, Blue Ridge Country, Reader’s Digest, Christian Single, Home Life, Straight, Evangel, Smokey Mountain Magazine, and others. She won the Blue Ridge Christian Writer’s award in l987. Her first book, All Work, All Play published by Marco. She has two children’s books, a chapter book aimed at elementary age children entitled The Underwear Tree and a picture book, Les Petits Gardes. With Margie Clary, she co-authored South Carolina Lighthouses published by Arcadia Publishing. Her latest book is a suspense romance entitled Hiding published by The Wild Rose Press.
Her manuscript won Honorable Mention in the Louisiana Romance Writers 2011 Contest and was a finalist in the Daphne Du Maurier Kiss of Death Contest at the National Romance Writer’s 2012 Conference. In the l980s she wrote two plays that were performed locally: Song of Susanna about the life of Susanna Wesley, mother of John Wesley and Stede Bonnet the Gentlemen Pirate.
Blurb
Alex illuminated the crypt with his light, and Teresa tried to interpret what she saw: uneven walls, a doorway surrounded by orbs, a floor littered with dried reeds. No, they weren’t reeds; they were bones. And the orbs were skulls! The catacombs! Her heart pounded in her chest like a jackhammer. Alex had withdrawn his knife. The blade glittered in the dim light of the torch which cast luminous shadows on the walls. What better place to kill someone? What was another set of bones among the many? Lord, as you helped the Christians long ago who met secretly in catacombs, help me.

#RWA2015 I’m here by Barbara Edwards
I’m at The Romance Writers of America conference in New York. We’re staying at the Marriott Marquis on Broadway. I volunteered to help at the Literacy book-signing and loved the crowds. Writers tend to be solitary people, but this was special. 480 authors signed books. There were thousands of readers. Wow.
This morning, Thursday I helped at the pro retreat. I moderated Catherine Bybee’s table. She’s a fascinating speaker and I can see why she is a best-selling author. Lots of energy, intelligent and fun. She’s an advocate for using social media in a positive manner. I have to transcribe my notes to my file. Another to-do.
Later is the General Meeting and a get-together with other Wild Press authors.
And dozens of classes. Not enough time. What to do next? I’m not sure.
Please follow, friend or like me. I love to hear from my readers.
