#New Release from Guest Maureen Bonatch #Giveaway Why this Story?

perf5.000x8.000.inddForget Me Not, a new release by Maureen Bonatch. Please welcome my guest Maureen Bonatch. She’s here to tell us more about her new release. Please share how you came up with the idea for this story.

The story for FORGET ME NOT formed last February while my hubby, my girls, and I stole away to a cabin over Valentine’s weekend to relax and enjoy quiet time together. Despite ensuring access to the finer things in life such as bathroom and shower facilities, the snow blanketed our remote cabin into peace and solitude. I spent this time reflecting upon how fast life goes by and how many decisions are guided by our head and not our hearts. These decisions might prove fruitful financially, but no money can buy, or replace, true love.

maureenbonatchFORGET ME NOT is about second chances and taking the time to enjoy the little things in life like family, friends and good conversation. My heroine must learn to shed her insecurities and embrace the small town where everyone knows everything and loves you all the more because of it.

What if your memories hadn’t been made yet?

Forget Me Not (A Candy Hearts Romance)

The car accident totaled Sabrina Post’s convertible and reinvented her memories. She can’t recall dumping Cole Dawson ten years ago. What her new clairvoyant visions tell Sabrina is he’s her husband.

Any practical girl would question her sanity. But if Sabrina wants to make this imaginary future a reality, she’ll have to regain Cole’s trust and eliminate her rival, the coffee shop waitress who’s pegged Cole as husband #4.

To prove she’s foreseen their destiny, Sabrina stirs Cole’s interest by revealing specifics about him she couldn’t have otherwise known. Unfortunately, the one detail he vividly remembers is the pain when she left him and their “rinky-dink” town in her rearview mirror.

If Cole can’t believe she’s a changed woman, can Sabrina accept the only second chance she has at love exists in her memories?

Guest Diane Burton & The Case of the Fabulous Fiance from Barbara Edwards

Welcome to my blog, Diane.

Diane BurtonPlease tell us about your new release.

The Evolution of The Case of the Fabulous Fiancé.

Six years ago, I thought it would be fun to write a story about a female private investigator. When I was a kid, I read all my mother’s Nancy Drew books plus the ones I got from the library and as gifts. In the 1980s, I fell in love with the TV show Remington Steel. (Loved Laura’s hat.) I didn’t like that she had to use a guy as a front while she did all the work. My investigator wouldn’t do that. She was her own girl and would be a success because of her hard work. In the 1990s, I discovered Stephanie Plum, Janet Evanovich’s screwball bounty hunter who makes Lucy and Ethel look like amateurs. I learned not to read those books before going to sleep. I’d laugh so hard the bed would shake. While I didn’t want my PI to be a screw-up, I wanted the stories to be humorous.

So I started writing the first Alex O’Hara mystery.

A friend of mine is a retired police chief. I’m always asking him questions, and he always tells me more, which gives me better ideas. The more I wrote, the more I realized I was adding too much back story—how Alex inherited the agency from her father and his business partner, how her old heartthrob Nick came back into her life, and many other details that had taken place in the past. As much as I liked her, I didn’t think the reader would enjoy info dumps. By that time, I’d written over half the story.

Not good.

My parents came of age during the Great Depression, so I was brought up on the adage “waste not, want not.” I never throw away story ideas or half-finished manuscripts. I set Alex’s story aside to write science fiction romances and a romantic suspense. But she kept nudging me to tell her story.

A writer can only hold out for so long. Nudging became poking that led to yelling in my ear as I tried to go to sleep. I couldn’t take it anymore. So I hauled out that manuscript and went to work. All that backstory became The Case of the Bygone Brother, published last year. What started out as the first book in the series then became the second, The Case of the Fabulous Fiancé.

It’s been said that it’s easier to write a new story than to rewrite an old one. How true. The next Alex O’Hara story will be much easier. I can’t wait to dive into it.

Blurb:

She’s at it again. Alex O’Hara just can’t say no to a new investigation. What do a 45-year-old boyfriend, a deadbeat dad, and a teenage runaway have in common? All new cases. With no receptionist, phone and internet problems, and her own boyfriend in the wind, Alex has no idea how she’ll manage. But the question for the past three months is why did Nick disappear. Is this the end of O’Hara & Palzetti?

Excerpt:

I picked up the pen before looking at Nora Finley. Even though I was in the middle of a major case, I never turned down a prospective client. At least, not right away. I’d hear her out and then decide.

“What can I do for you?”

Her expression completely changed. The high-powered exec disappeared. In its place, caution and . . . vulnerability. “Ellen VanderVeen said I could trust you.”

I smiled. Ellen and I had been friends since college. That girl had more fashion sense in her baby finger than I did in my entire body.

“Yes, I know Ellen.”

“She said you helped her investigate her fiancé.”

I nodded.

She hesitated and appeared to rethink what she was doing in a private investigator’s office. Quickly, she came to a conclusion. “I’d like you to do the same.”

“You want me to vet your fiancé?”

“He’s not my fiancé. Yet.”

She didn’t explain any further, so I asked, “Why? Do you suspect something?”

“No. Oh, goodness, no.” She pursed her lips before continuing. “My father left me a prosperous financial firm plus a sizeable inheritance. I am not saying that to brag but to explain my concerns. In my younger days, I was, uhm, taken advantage of. I need to be sure this man truly loves me—me, not my money.”

Although nobody would ever mistake me for an heiress, I understood her caution.

“I am almost forty years old,” she said. “I want to have children before I’m too old.”

Again, I understood. I’d recently passed a landmark birthday. The big Three-Oh. Rather than worry about kids, though, I devoted myself to my business. After a rocky start, I was on a pretty even keel. Plenty of work. Not enough time. But I did have plenty of time before settling down with kids. And a husband, of course. I’m kind of old-fashioned like that. I’d thought Nick might— Don’t go there.

“Ma’am, if you’d called for an appointment, I could have saved you a trip. I do not have time to devote to your case.”

A crestfallen Nora Finley stared at me, her mouth slightly open. I guess nobody ever turned her down. While hers might be interesting, I didn’t have a good feeling about this case. A client might want the lowdown on a prospective mate—as I’d discovered before—but they often resented the bearer of bad news. Of course, the client could be grateful if the news was good, like my friend Ellen.

“I will double your usual retainer.”

“It isn’t a matter of money—” Although money never hurt. “—I’m in the middle of a large case that is taking up all of my time.”

“How soon will you finish?” No longer disappointed, she looked calculating.

God save me from rich people who think everyone should drop what they’re doing to attend to them.

“Three weeks, minimum.”

“Good. I will be out of the country for the next four weeks. You may finish your present case then check into Clyde Wilson.”

Well, shit. I mean, shoot. I was trying to break my bad habit of swearing. I had misgivings about this woman. Demanding, she was going to be difficult to work with. She exuded the power that came from old money. Power that expected everyone to drop everything and do her bidding.

But then I’d had difficult clients before and managed them. I could probably wrap up the fraud investigation in a couple of weeks. I’d given myself a cushion when I’d told her three.

Were my misgivings about her enough to turn down double my retainer?

I drew the pad closer to me. “Tell me about this man. Clyde Wilson?”

That better not be a smug look on her face.

Please welcome my guest Monique DeVere

Her newest release is a charming story and I’m happy to have her tell us more.

Party for Two by Monique DeVere

Her sexy weekend fling.

Ex-lawyer turned pregnancy model Danielle Hampton has one simple rule; never date an attorney, even if he’s so deliciously hot she’s nicknamed him His Hotness Esquire. He hasn’t bargained on the fierce desire that burns hotter than the Mojave Desert and combusts every time he gets his boss’s daughter alone. He leaned in an inch; just enough to let his chest lightly brush her back. “Are you thinking what I’m thinking?”

She suspected she probably was if he was thinking about forgetting dinner and heading straight to bed for round three. But she wouldn’t tell him she’d been indulging such risqué thoughts.

“If you’re thinking that dinner is getting cold and we should get moving if we want to eat while it’s still warm, then I guess we’re on the same page.”

“I wasn’t thinking that at all.” His lips caressed her ear as he spoke, a wicked enticement she barely resisted. “And I don’t think you were either.”

She turned her head to meet his gaze over her shoulder, only he didn’t retreat and their lips ended up almost touching. He inhaled a hard breath and she thought she heard the merest hint of a groan. So, she wasn’t the only one being tormented here—good. She maintained the feather contact between their lips and pretended she hadn’t even noticed.

“I guess you’ll never know, Lowe.”

Author: Barbara Edwards

Dixie was my friend and companion for years after we adopted her. She kept me exercising by insisting I get up from my chair and take her out. She would eat anything I ate except for clams in marinara sauce. When she crossed the Rainbow Bridge I cried for days. Then I took the memories and wrote this story. I hope you enjoy it.

Blurb: Ellen Carter deeply grieves for her husband Dan, but at least she still has Dixie, her beloved Malinois. However, soon Dixie leaves her too. But the faithful dog cannot rest easy in heaven while her mistress is unhappy. Dixie pleads with the Archangel Michael to let her send help, and intercedes for Ellen in the only way she can. But will Ellen get the message, and more importantly, will she accept Dixie’s gift?

Sexy newcomer Michael Burke can barely take enough time from his successful restaurant for a decent night’s sleep, let alone romance. Still, he is intrigued by the beautiful widow and can’t resist entering her shop. Sparks fly, and when Ellen has an accident in a snowstorm, he comes to her rescue. Trapped by a blizzard and aided by Dixie’s Gift, Ellen and Michael find more than shelter–they find love.

Excerpt:

He brushed a wisp of her hair from her cheek. It clung like spider silk to his fingers.

He rubbed the strand and his heart raced. When her lips parted, he bent forward to taste their soft curve.

Sweet, so sweet, he thought as her mouth melded with his. His hands slowly slid from her slender shoulders to her waist. Soft as a feather, she sighed. Her curves fit against his hard chest like matching puzzle pieces.

The lights blinked, dimmed, and then flared back on.

What am I really thankful for? by Barbara Edwards

With Thanksgiving coming fast, I wanted to share with you.

thanksgiving 2012 036Since this has been a really good year, I had to think about this.

I finished Dixie’s Gift and it will be released December 7th by the Wild Rose Press. I have the next two novels in the Rhodes End Series more than half done.

I went to The Romance Writers of America conference in New York and had a great time. I got a request for a full manuscript. I have my fingers crossed.

We have a new baby in the family named Charlie and he is the cutest baby boy.

We painted the living room. Not because it needed new paint, but to make it cheerier. Nice warm gold now.

Finally, I put together two photo albums. Can you picture a huge plastic bin full of photos? Well, I have two and I am slowly- tortoise pace—sorting and labeling them. My daughter-in-law asked for the photos of my son, giving me some incentive. She was surprised at the number and I’m barely started.

My husband and I visited the last of fifty states. Wow. I have a zillion digital photos and can’t find the time to sort them either. I know it sounds odd to say it was North Dakota. The reason is that we went through South Dakota to visit Mount Rushmore on the trip west.

My flower garden looked spectacular. The perennials grew like weeds and bloomed all summer.

IMG_0351Everyone came over for the Fourth of July fireworks in the park next to our house and we had a big picnic, too.

thanksgiving 2012 022I’m looking forward to Thanksgiving dinner at my other son’s house. I’m making turnips and cruschiki (Angel Wings). My daughter-in-law loves turnips but she’s the only one. She loves the way I make it.

Then there is Christmas Eve at my other son’s house. A family tradition for us to gather on Christmas Eve. I have to make ornaments to give to each person. Another happy job.

What is your happiest event this year?

Of Love and Betrayal by my guest, Louise Lyndon from Barbara Edwards

perf5.000x8.000.inddPlease welcome my guest and author of Of Love and Betrayal, Louise Lyndon

BLURB:

Aveline de Bondeville is on the run. Determined to keep out of the hands of the cruel Raimbaut de Blois she will do whatever it takes to stay alive. And so when she finds herself in the company of Troy de Gysborne she must quickly decide if she can trust him. But can she confess to murder knowing it would mean her certain death?

Troy de Gysborne did the unthinkable; he tore the bonds of brotherhood and left a path of destruction in his wake. And now Troy must face those he betrayed, including the father who long ago renounced him. But to confess to the crime he committed will cost him everything. Including Aveline. But can he remain silent if it means losing the woman he loves?

Excerpt:

Aveline’s scream burned her throat; she tasted blood. Eudes staggered forward, his eyes wide. He looked at her as he fell to his knees and then slumped forward. Bright red blood rushed from his wound and pooled on the ground. She looked at Raimbaut.

“This time you shall not escape.”

She picked up her skirts and ran headlong into the forest and did not slow her speed as branches slapped her in the face and tore at her arms. The ground beneath her feet was icy and uneven. She risked a glance over her shoulder and did not stop even though Raimbaut was nowhere to be seen. He may not have been behind her, but it did not mean he was not stalking her.

Sweat trickled down her face and burned her eyes. Her heart pumped, her lungs gasped for air. She came to a skidding stop and looked wildly around. Should she keep running straight, go left or right, or make her way back to Gysborne? She turned in a circle and shoved her hair from her eyes.

A twig snapped behind her. She stilled and held her breath. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw a blur rush by. Was it an animal? Was it Raimbaut?

She ignored the pain in her chest and her sudden need to loosen her bladder. But she could not ignore her trembling. She clutched her arms to her chest. A sour taste flooded her mouth as she did not see how she would be lucky enough a second time to escape from Raimbaut.

Guest Alison Henderson author of Small Town Christmas Tales – #Holidayrelease

Welcome Alison Henderson to my blog. I love Christmas stories and this collection is great.

Small town Christmas Tales

Small town Christmas Tales

Barb, thanks so much for inviting me to share a little about the inception of my new book Small Town Christmas Tales: Ten Short Holiday Romances. This is my fifth published book but my first collection of short stories. It was inspired by the December short stories our group blog, The Roses of Prose, have been writing for the past three years. I had never written a short story before we began this annual holiday tradition, and I was surprised how much I enjoyed it!

Writing ten individual stories turned out to be quite a challenge. When I write a full length novel, I start with a general premise and some ideas about the two main characters. Setting is also important, but it’s usually part of the premise. I used a somewhat different approach with the stories in Small Town Christmas Tales. Because each story in this collection is set in a fictional small town in a different state, I the setting influenced the story in several cases.

For example: A couple of years ago, my husband and I stopped in the town of Lusk, Wyoming for lunch when we were in the process of moving cross country from Minnesota to California. Because it was Easter Sunday, everything was closed. We ended up eating prepared sandwiches from the hotel in the car because I could barely stand against the gale winds blowing giant tumbleweeds across the barren landscape. I’ll never forget the look and feel of eastern Wyoming that morning. When I sat down to plan my stories, I asked myself, why might a young woman be driving through a town like that, and what might make her stop? The answers became the basis of “A Hard Luck Christmas.”

Each story in the collection has a colorful and distinctive setting. I hope you’ll check them out!

Author Bio:

I haven’t always been a writer, but I have always embraced creativity and relished new experiences. Seeking to expand my horizons beyond Kansas City, I chose a college in upstate New York. By the time I was twenty-one I had traveled the world from Tunisia to Japan. Little did I suspect I was collecting material for future characters and stories along the way.

I began writing when my daughter entered preschool (she’s now a full-fledged adult) and became addicted to the challenge of translating the living, breathing images in my mind into words. I write romance because that’s what I like to read. The world provides more than enough drama and tragedy. I want to give my readers the happily-ever-after we all crave.

Why do I think my home is creepy? by Barbara Edwards #Halloweenbloghop #Giveaway

It’s no surprise that living in Connecticut contributed to my interest in the paranormal. this small state is a hotbed of weird and unusual happenings. Where do I start?

Snarlolgy Halloween Blog Hop Yellow 2Many towns have cemeteries that host grave from the early 1700s. Settlers had their own superstitions that they brought from their countries of origins. When a town had reports of a family dying from no known cause, the village elders and family concluded it was a vampire. the first girl who died was dug up and her bones burned tot stop the deaths. Strangely, it worked. Hmmm.

A sandbank collapsed to reveal coffins buried away from consecrated land. When open the coffins held skeletons with he bones rearranged. The femurs were on the chest in the shape of a cross, the skull, placed on the pelvis. This was a European belief to keep the dead from returning as a vampire.

Many cemeteries like the one in Burlington have a resident ghost. This one is called the Green Lady. No one knows if she is buried there or if her murdered body was dumped in the swamp where she hovers. She cries for justice. My sons actually went there to debunk the legend and got scared spit-less by her screams. or maybe they scared each other.

How about the famous Charter Oak? when the first farmer plowed the land around the massive oak, the local Indian Chief approached him to ask the tree be left to grow. The reason? It was vital to their magic ceremonies. The farmer wisely let it alone and it became a part of history.

Have you heard of the Moodus moans? loud sounds come from under the earth at random times. hunters have looked into caves, but found no real reason for the sounds.

The Connecticut Trail from the Boston area to Windsor and Hartford is haunted by those seeking a new home who died and were buried in graves long lost to memory.

Dudleyville, CT

Dudleyville, CT

Dudleytown is famous for its haunted memory. the town had a history of madness and no longer exists. People ofter visit the site and return reports of odd feelings, an atmosphere of fear and loathing.

How about the beach on the Long Island Shore where the British chained convicts to rocks at low tide and left them to drown when the tide came in. People hear their screams of anguish when the tide is rising. Creepy.

Did you notice I didn’t give you the names of the towns? Many residents don’t want to have their town known for paranormal activity. I can respect that. I don’t want anyone checking out my house because its haunted.

I’m learning more and more about my home state as I continue research on “Jacob” my next Rhodes End Series book and “Daniel” the following book.
