Review: A Red, Red Rose by Susan Coryell from Barbara Edwards
Susan Coryells A Red, Red Rose quickly drew me into the slightly gothic atmosphere of a Southern mansion with a ghost and a hidden history. Ashby, a modern girl, misses her cell phone and internet access as she takes on caring for her nephew for the summer at the family home shes never visited. The explanations for the estrangement increase the suspense page by page just as the romance between Ashby and Luke grows stronger.
Ashby is intrigued by the family secrets and the ghostly spirit that seems to be protecting her. despite the reluctance of everyone to share what they know, Ashby persists. The revelation result in a violent and surprising end.
I really enjoyed reading A Red, Red Rose and will be looking for the next story by Susan.

It’s great to have friends by Margo Hoornstra plus #review
Its Great to Have Friends by Margo Hoornstra
Thank you for having me here today on my Saturday In Serendipity tour.
My topic today on the importance of friends, is appropriate here since Barbara and I are on-line friends and also contributors to The Roses of Prose blog Where Romance Is Never Out of Season.
Saturday In Serendipity is a compilation of three novellas which revolve around a twentieth high school reunion at Serendipity High School in Vermont. Serendipity is a mid-sized town located on the shores of Lake Champlain.
Three Strikes Thursday, leaves Barry Carlson, professional baseballs former golden boy, with some serious making up to do. A love em and leave em attitude of his youth has finally caught up with him. Older, maybe wiser, hes eager to catch up on whats important in life. A home and family, someone to love who loves him back just as deeply. Amanda Marsh is the one Barry foolishly pushed away. He has his work cut out for him if he hopes to ever win her back.
Two On Tuesday, has Serendipity High School graduate Blane Weston viewing her upcoming class reunion as a chance to renew a former, but not forgotten, love. As she gets ready to attend the week-end festivities, enter Matt Durand, someone shes recently considered then rejected as a potential business partner. Turns out he wont take no for an answer and has other ideas for her activities at the reunion. Things go from bad to worse in light of his current involvement with some of the people from her past.
One Fateful Friday, is a holiday story of forever friends Jake and Bethany, that takes place between Halloween and Christmas Eve, after the reunion. Soul mates through high school, Jake and Bethany went their separate ways after graduation. Brought together twenty years later, both involved with careers in healthcare, they assume theyll re-establish their relationship with flawless compatibility. Except, they now hold different philosophies that might jeopardize their chance at a happy future.
Recently, the six major characters now happily together as couples, Bethany and Jake; Blane and Matt; Amanda and Barry, spent some time being interviewed by another one of my friends, Silver James. Heres what happened.
Are you familiar with this saying? A good friend will come bail you out of jail, but a true friend will be sitting next to you saying.Dang that was fun. Who would be sitting next to you?
Barry glances over at Jake. He and I have always had each others backs. Though we lost touch for a few years after high school, when I returned to town recently, our friendship picked up just where we left off. Looking toward Amanda with a smile on his face, he takes her hand. It was Jake who talked Amanda into taking me back when the class trouble maker, Aaron Goodwin and his big mouth tried to break us up.
Friends with benefits? Good idea or too complicated and why?
Ill respond to that one. Bethany sits forward. You may have heard the line What kind of woman buries her husband in the afternoon and sleeps with his best friend that night? She looks shyly at Jake. That woman would be me. Its what I did.
Hes quick to correct her. What we did. It wasnt all Bethys fault. I had something to do with our night in my hotel room.
Bethany smiles at him. Lets just say I spent too many years married to the wrong man. Good thing my best friend Jake was willing to wait for me to realize that.
I knew Bethy was the only one for me even before we graduated from high school. Jakes gaze dropped to the floor then back at her. I just didnt have the guts to put my thoughts and feelings into action. Until recently.
When you first met who is now your significant other, were you friends, enemies, or lovers?
That question is for us. Blane and Matt both speak at the same time, then exchange glances and grin.
Matt continues. She disliked me from the get go.
Blane quickly breaks in. Only because you tried to undermine my position as head of the construction company.
I was protecting you from some thug who trespassed on your property.
I could have handledwas handlingthe situation just fine by myself.
Uh-huh.
Whatever. Blane puts both arms around Matt and gives him a kiss on the cheek. Then shortly after that little incident, when I flew out to my reunion in Serendipity, Matt followed me.
We still had business touhdiscuss.
As I said, he followed me, and all I could think was how am I supposed to enjoy the trip back to my past when hes so bent on dictating my future?
How important are your friends to your Happy Ever After?
Barry reaches up to rub his palm across the back of Amandas shoulders. Our turn, huh? Bringing his hand down, he takes hold of hers.
Barry and I dated in high school. Looking at Barry, Amanda sighs. But our relationship didnt work out.
Hes more than ready to elaborate. At that point in our lives, back when I was an arrogant ass.
Amanda smooths her hand over the top of his. You had a lot going on. I mean how many guys are offered a contract to play professional baseball while theyre still in high school?
Barry lowered his eyes. Unfortunately, all the attention went immediately to my head.
Both of them really. Though blushing, Amanda laughs.
Only temporarily. Barry cut in with the correction. Once I got reacquainted with Amanda, any other woman didnt stand a chance.
Describe the perfect night with friends.
You mean without each of our life partners here? The three guys practically speak in unison, then eye each other and chuckle.
Jake, the informal leader of the group is the first to grow serious. A perfect night with friends is just thata perfect night with friends. The location or other particulars dont really matter.
Barrys up next. We could all be having dinner together at some high end restaurant or a burger joint. On a luxurious and expensive cruise ship or backpackingsurvivalist stylein some rough and rugged terrain.
Matt finishes their group thought. Its the people youre with that make up the perfect night with friends.
My Review- Saturday in Serendipity by Margo Hoornstra- Barbara Edwards
Margo creates a delightful cast of characters in this anthology. The stories circle around the people who reunite for their 20th class reunion.
In Three Strikes Thursday I was hooked on the first page by baseball jock Barry Carlson who made a stupid mistake with the girl he loved Amanda Marsh and left her behind when he went on to a successful sport career. He returns to coach the local team, but Amanda also works there. Unable to resolve their differences, they also admit their love never died. The resolution is sweet.
Two onTuesday brings together Matt Durand, an investment financier & Blane Weston, head of a construction company looking for investors. Hes fascinated by a beautiful woman in a mans job and wants to pursue a relationship. Blane has worked hard to be a success and resists his efforts because she feels he doesnt respect her. She hopes to find another investor while at the reunion, but Matt throws a wrench in the works. Another great resolution.
Jake Holbrook & Dr. Bethany Thomas were friends since third grade and thought that love would bind them together. A misunderstanding has Jake leaving. Instead Bethy marries another only to spend years in regret. Jake hires Bethany to head the clinic at his hospital. Bethany is fighting to recover from years of mental abuse and every error on Jakes part widens the wedge. The way they find the way to a new life together is well written and believable.
I recommend this to everyone who believes in love and happily ever after.

Margo Hornstat Like many writers, its hard to determine exactly when my fiction writing career began. I remember composing a short story in grade school (I have no idea about what) which was chosen for publication in an all school anthology. A journalism class taken in junior high school led to a job on the school newspaper and a weekly column.
I always loved reading. I loved writing too. Someday, I thought, maybe when I grew up and received the right training, I could actually write a book. After all, I was often told, laughingly most times, I had an extremely vivid imagination.
Through the years, the desire to write was always there. I had so many ideas and characters roaming around in my head, so many stories. But the business of livinggoing to college, getting married then raising a familytook precedence over something as frivolous as writing a book.
Then one day out of the blue I was downsizedeffective immediatelyfrom a job Id held for over thirty years. What seemed so unfair at the time, I now recognize the tremendous gift I was given that day. As Im now able to spend more and more time doing what I lovewriting romantic fictionI find I really do have an abundance of stories to share.
A twenty year high school reunion changes the lives of former classmates and leads to unexpected futures.
Three Strikes Thursday
Barry Carlson, a pro baseball success, could have any woman he wanted. Except one. Twenty years before, Barry won Amanda Marshs love, only to crush her heart. Hes returned to Serendipity, determined to win her back. Recently divorced, Amanda is happyuntil Barry slides back into her life. Can they put aside old wounds and new misunderstandings to find a forever love?
Two On Tuesday
Blane Westons construction company needs the venture capital Matt Durand has. With his reputation for hostile takeovers, she wants no part of him. Mixing business with pleasure, shes off to Serendipity to hook up with a former flame. Not used to being denied, Matt follows. How can Blane enjoy a journey to her past when Matt is determined to dictate her future?
One Fateful Friday
His high school reunion in Serendipity over, hospital CEO Jake Holbrook regrets his single state. When a special woman from his past tumbles back into his lifeand his bedhes determined to keep her there. Family practitioner Bethany Thomas avoids an entanglement with her new boss, but unknowingly betrays him. As the holidays approach, can they overcome a lack of trust to find their Christmas miracle?

#MFRWAuthor Barbara Edwards & Her Dogwood Tree
Easter and the dogwood tree by Barbara Edwards
The best part about Easter is the flowers. Lilies, Daffodils, Tulips, Hyacinth and Lilacs give color to the season. I also have a dogwood tree.
One of the legends associated with Easter is the dogwood tree. According to legend the dogwood was the tree the Romans used in Palestine to make crosses which were used in their crucifixions. The myth claims the dogwood riled the Oak in size and strength. When Jesus was ordered to be crucified, the dogwood felt bad that it was used to crucify the Son of God. On the cross that dark afternoon Jesus was touched by the sorrow which the dogwood showed. He promised that the dogwood tree would never again have to suffer such a fate. Therefore the dogwood became the twisted short tree it is today instead of a stately oak-like creation.
The four petals include two shorter and two longer. The center resembles a crown of thorns in the middle and there are nail prints on the petals.
Like all myths, there is no evidence that the Romans used dogwood trees for their this purposes. The dogwood is not even common to the Palestine region.
Im Barbara Edwards and a native New Englander. Im a graduate of the University of Hartford with a Masters degree in Public Administration. I write poetry for myself and novels when I need to tell a longer tale. Im fascinated by the past so naturally turned to writing historical romance. The dark paranormal stories evolve from nightmares. The romance comes from my belief in peoples basic goodness and longing for love.
Ancient Curse Blurb:
Evil never dies. And this time it wanted Rainie. It wanted more than her life, it wanted her soul.
The artifacts Rainie Gamble handled came from every era and she could read their past with a touch. After her Fathers deceit, shed lost her beloved career until Thomas hired her.
Thomas Broquette needed Rainie for more than her psychic ability. She would unknowingly bring her father into his reach. Thomas needed him to return the stolen paintings in Masons estate. He needed Rainie to destroy the evil items Mason left behind. Then he realized he needed her for much, much more.

#new Brady’s Lost Blanket by Stephanie Burkhart #giveaway
Please welcome my friend and fellow author, Stephanie Burkhart as she tells us more about her #new #release
Inspiration comes in small packages
By: Stephanie Burkhart
One of my husband’s relatives told me a story about her grandchild who was attached to his blankie. He left it behind when he was visiting relatives and was having a hard time without it. That brought back memories of the time when I was a young girl and had a blankie. My blankie was soft blue with silk blue trim. I loved to rub it against my face. It was very soothing. My blankie was my security net. It was always there for me. I could count on it to relax my ruffled feelings or frustration until it mysteriously disappeared. One day, when I was five, my blankie turned up missing. I had no idea what happened to it. I felt “out of sorts,” “uncomfortable,” and “anxious.” (My mother hid it on me. She decided it was time for me to learn how to get along without it.)
Those first couple of days without blankie was rough, but I soon learned other age appropriate coping stragedies. I played with Barbie and her Beach van. I picked up a book. I began coloring. I loved playing with Matchbox cars. Soon my imagination grew and I didn’t need blankie anymore.
Giving up blankie was my first step to growing up.
Brady’s Lost Blanket is about taking that first step. It’s a great message for children. Growing up isn’t easy. There are all kinds of challenges, but learning how to get along without a blankie is usually the first one a child faces. In the story, Brady has a lot of support from his parents who offer him other ways to deal with the anxiety of losing his blanket. I hope that when other children read the story they realize that while it may be upsetting at first, letting go of blankie and embracing new things can be fun and they’ll be all right.
Question for you: Did you have a blankie growing up? Did you know someone who had a blankie?
Also, Ill be offering one lucky commenter a PDF review copy of Bradys Lost Blanket. Looking forward to your comments!
COVER BLURB FOR Brady’s Lost Blanket:
Brady is a sensitive young boy who takes his blankie wherever he goes. After traveling with his parents to visit his new cousin, Brady accidently leaves his blanket behind. Can Brady learn to get by without his blankie?
5 SHORT QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS WITH STEPHANIE:
#1: What inspired you to write the story?
STEPHANIE: One of my husband’s relatives mentioned their grandchild had a blankie and was having a hard time without it. I drew on my own childhood memories of having a blankie. I think letting go of the blankie is the first step in growing up.
#2: How long did it take?
STEPHANIE: It took about a week to write the story. I have to thank 4RV Publishing for publishing Brady’s Lost Blanket. It took about 2 weeks back and forth with the editing.
#3: Did you pick the illustrator?
STEPHANIE: No, I did not. 4RV Publishing selected the illustrator. I think Bridget McKenna did a great job with the illustrations. They have a very whimsical feel and compliment the story well.
#4: What makes this book special?
STEPHANIE: Brady’s Lost Blanket has a message for all young children who become attached to “something” (be it a blanket or something else) because they want to feel secure. It’s okay to let go of our “security” nets and move forward. It maybe a little scary at first, but once you go without it, you learn you can live without it.
#5: How long have you been writing children’s books?
STEPHANIE: About 5 years now. My first children’s book, “The Giving Meadow” was published with 4RV Publishing in 2010. It has a great message about sharing and caring for young children as well as telling about Caterpillar’s transformation into a butterfly. It’s perfect for Easter as it helps young children understand Jesus’ story.
Stephanie Burkhart was born and raised in Manchester, New Hampshire, but now calls California her home. She currently works for LAPD as a 911 Dispatcher. Stephanie has been writing since she was five, when she crafted homemade comic books on the kitchen table. Her previous books with 4RV Publishing include: The Giving Meadow, and First Flag of New Hampshire. Stephanie enjoys coffee, adores chocolate and is currently the Den Leader for her son’s Cub Scout Den.
BRADY’S LOST BLANKET is available in print from 4RV Publishing.

#Review End of Lonely Street by Alicia Dean
It makes no sense to work to write a review and not share it. So here is my #Review, End of Lonely Street by Alicia Dean
Toby Lawsons past keeps her from a bright future. She believes her alcoholic mother needs her care and love despite her failure to stay sober. Toby has worked hard to earn her teaching certificate and leave her tainted past, but she takes on a project she believes important and refuses to back down.
Noah Rivers doesnt understand Tobys conflicted feelings. Or why she thinks shell be like her mother.
Both are from an era when innocence was the norm. The conflicts are part of that time. I Enjoyed reading it.
Alicia Dean creates a nostalgic glimpse into a time when innocence prevailed.
