The Validation Addiction

thumbs-up I love that pat on the back. I can’t help it. And I’m betting I’m not the only one. Being told we’re good at something can feel like a drug, the rush is so good. Who doesn’t love being praised for a job well done? Being told how awesome and valuable we are? Personally, I can’t get enough of it. So of course I was the perennial over-achiever growing up (read as giant nerd). I was the valedictorian who always loved to be told I had done the best and worked the hardest.

Not surprisingly, this c...

Meet Golden Heart Finalist Caroline Bradley!

Today, we’re thrilled to be introducing the first of our guests from the newly-minted Class of 2015 Golden Heart Finalists. Caroline Bradley is a nominee in the Erotic Romance category with her manuscript INDULGE MY FANTASY.

It’s especially delightful to welcome her here to celebrate her Golden Heart nomination because (under another name…ssshhhh!!!) she’s been a Friend of the Rubies for years and has done fabulously in our annual Make It Golden Contest. We’ve seen this moment coming for her...

Get a Room, Part II: Advanced Priceline Bidding Strategy

My first Priceline bidding tutorial gave you a couple of key cheats to master the system: how to tell which hotels you’re bidding on, understanding which zones/star levels to select, and a general strategy of deciding how much to bid. But you’re still left bidding just once every two hours, which gets old.

Now you’re ready for the big guns. Yes, it comes in spreadsheet form. But it’s EASY, and it helps you bid more quickly. It’s the Priceline Rapid Rebid Strategy (I just made that up, but it...

This Wedding is Doomed: Release Day Celebration + Giveaway

I’m happy to announce that today is the release day for This Wedding is Doomed, a collaboration between four author buddies hatched up during a fun conversation over dinner and drinks. Amanda Berry, Shawntelle Madison, Stephanie Draven and myself (Jeannie Lin) thought it would be fun to write a series of stories that followed the course of one wedding and all the disasters big and small that accompany it.

Shawntelle Madison is guest blogging today about her contribution, Lovers in Lockdown.

T...

Manic Monday

As writers we’re constantly pulled in different directions. Family. Work. Marketing of our work. Health maintenance and management. Oh, and don’t forget sleep! With all the things we have to do in a day, it’s often difficult to find the time to simply write.

The challenge is recognizing that all of those things are important. Essential, in fact.

So how do we balance? (As I am not putting this post up until noon on my assigned day, clearly I’m hardly the one to be dispensing advice!! But…we’ll...

Show and Tell Wednesday: What I did for Mother’s Day

Warning: Food porn pictures ahead…

Something that I learned quickly is that if I wanted to have a Mother’s Day celebration, I needed to take care of it myself. So I booked an afternoon tea at the Ritz-Carlton for the family. Perhaps it was a little upscale, but hubby did leave it up to me to book whatever I wanted. :)

The twinsies were quite excited. Boy talked about getting to wear his “church shoes.” Little Girl looked at the dress I took out for her, and told me that was a dress she just wor...

A Weekend Without Wi-Fi

The weather in Texas has been shockingly unpredictable the past few weeks. Spring has sprung in a big way and we’re dealing with our annual rash of storms. While I’m grateful for nothing more than a few downed tree branches, the bad weather did kick my internet access out of commission this past weekend.

Initial annoyance turned into a fight with the phone company which turned into an ever-so-slight sense of panic before I decided to settle in and enjoy the side benefits of disconnecting. (In...
