Whedon’s Wisdom

JossTweet

His real reason?

“I ju...

This or that – critique groups?

Do you critique with someone or do you go it alone?

When it comes to writing, I’m a loner and always have been. No critique groups or partners. I use RWA contests for feedback, though. I like the anonymity of it. Some judges are mean, but usually the judges give comments that are genuinely trying to help me.

The first person (besides me) who ever read my Ruby GH all the way through was my agent–while I was querying her. (Insane but true.) Now that I’m writing books under contract, my daughter...

What does Broadway have to do with this blog? Glad you asked.

As you are probably aware, RWA Nationals is being held in NYC this July, so in keeping with our theme of preparing for your trip to the Big Apple (see: Jamie Michele’s awesome blogs on Priceline bidding strategyand advance strategy), I’m hear today to encourage you tofind some time one night to escape the hotel and go see a Broadway show. (Come now, I write a YA series set at a performing arts boarding school — of course I’m going...

Yay! We’ve got an other Dragonfly with us today: 2015 Golden Heart Finalist Mia Sosa, whose book AT HER SERVICE is nominated for Short Contemporary Romance.

For more years than she’d like to admit, she practiced law in the nation’s capital, representing broadcasters, television production companies and newspapers in a variety of media matters. Now that Mia no longer braves the treacherous commute to...

Fangirl Friday: 5.29.2015

Welcome everyone to another Fangirl Friday! The day where we gab about books…books we’ve read, books we’ve just released, books that are on sale, books that are free!

I’m at Awesome Con today, our local Comic Con. I know…Amanda at a Comic Con? So not my scene. But let’s just say it’s research for a book, and leave it at that.

This or that – Chronological order?

Today’s “this or that” question is: Do you write a book in chronological order or do you jump around?

I’m in the latter group. I write scenes as they come to me. The first scene is usually first, but I nearly always write the last scene next.

This process may go back to a conversation I had with my trigonometry teacher in high school. I was complaining to him that I could never draw a straight line. He told me to draw both endpoints, then put the pencil on the point A, lock my gaze on point B...

Show and Tell Wednesday: Cake Wrecks

Note: The four lucky winners have been chosen for the This Wedding is Doomed “Let Them Eat Cake” contest. I’ll be busy making the tiramisus in a jar to ship out.

I received a lot of compliments about the giveaway, so I thought I’d give you a peek of how the idea came about. First I thought…weddings….cake…I’ll make wedding cakes as giveaways!

Hmmmm….but cakes are big and hard to ship. I know! Mini wedding cakes. There are molds for mini wedding cakes. You just pour in the batter, pop them out,...
