Where are they now? – GH classes of 2005 & 2007
Welcome to the next installment of our The Golden Heart Finalists: Where are they now? series. Today, the Rubies are hosting Golden Heart finalists from 2005 and 2007.
Since the 2005 finalists were heading to Reno for the RWA Nationals, we chose to be “The Wild Cards.” The 2007 finalists met in Dallas–but, of course, with ‘007 as our year, we were the “Bond Girls.”
Thirteen finalists checked in with us today and volunteered to tell us what’s been happening with their writing careers since. If...

BECAUSE OF SEASONS
If you’re thinking this blog is about setting, you’re totally wrong. Maybe I should’ve changed the title so you wouldn’t have thought so, but after I started brainstorming ideas for a blog it actually fit.
My original idea was to write about two lessons I learned many years ago from my creative writing professor which, yes, would’ve pertained to setting, but then two of my Ruby sisters had also mentioned on our private loop that they planned blogs about the subject. Although I knew we’d appr...

Are You a “Method” Writer?
Last year I banded together with five awesome contemporary romance authors for the Finding Chris Evans series – a group of linked novellas about one woman’s quest to meet the “Chris Evans” of her dreams and the unintended romantic consequences of her actions as she catapulted several other couples into love before finding her own HEA. (Random plug: that series is on sale for 99cents each for a limited time!) We had such fun doing it that the five of us who could fit it into our schedules dec...

Where Are They Now? – The Dreamweavers (Class of 2014)
Welcome to Week Three of our eight week series: The Golden Heart Finalists, Where Are They Now? Every year we interview the new Golden Heart class, but lately we’ve been wondering what they’ve been up to and so this series was born. So far we’ve caught up with the Dragonflies and Unsinkables, and this week we’re shining a light on the Dreamweavers!
In 2014, the RWA National Conference was in San Antonio and in March of that year the Dreamweavers got the call to come to the Riverwalk for the...

WHAT IS 13?
It’s Friday the 13th and today’s topic is fear.
What is fear?
Fear has been defined as a vital response to physical danger. If we didn’t feel it, we couldn’t protect ourselves from legitimate threats. However, often we fear situations that are not life threatening but pose an emotional danger and thus avoid them in the name of sanity. But by not facing our fears, we are feeding the gluttonous monster.
Think about fear in terms of your desire to write, or your lack of writing. What is stopping...

Where Are They Now – The Unsinkables (Class of 2010)
Hello and welcome back for Week Two of our eight week series: The Golden Heart Finalists, Where Are They Now? Last week, we caught up with the Dragonflies of 2015, but this week is all UNSINKABLES!
Back in 2010, massive flooding in Tennessee put the Grand Ole Opry under water and moved the RWA National Conference and Golden Heart ceremony to Disney World, but these Golden Heart finalists were not deterred and named themselves Unsinkable in honor of the fact that even natural disasters could...

Pages for Paws!
It’s a fall fundraiser! Author DD Ayres and I have teamed up with nonprofit K-9s United to further their mission of supporting K-9 teams throughout the U.S.
K-9s United was formed after the tragic death of K-9 officer Baron in the line of duty. K-9 teams do so much to keep us all safe, and their work is absolutely fascinating. That’s why DD and I write about them!
For a minimum donation of just $25.00 to K-9s United, you will get two free personally autographed books, one from me and one from...
