Release Craziness! A List of Book Release Steps
Hello, everyone! I have a book coming out next week. Yay! And I’ve been busy , very busy trying to get everything in order for the big day.
First of all, for those of you who do all the release work on your own because you’re self-publishing – I don’t know how you do it! There’s a huge amount to be done. I’m definitely not a marketer or publicist, but luckily, I have a publicist and marketing team at Entangled Publishing who help me. Still, there’s a ton that I need to give them. Below is a q...

Happy New Year
To me, this is the new year. Summer vacation is almost over. Our kids are going back to school in 3 weeks. In some places, they’ll be back in school even earlier. We’re looking forward to cooler nights, to exercising outside without melting into our shoes, to football season, and to getting into a regular schedule.
RWA conference is a thing of the past. We know who the winners were for last year for the Ritas and Golden Hearts. We’ve learned a thing or two from the workshops. The slate is cle...

Alert! Alert! Only Four Weeks of Summer Remain!
I just checked: there are four weeks left in summer.
I’m not talking about official summer. (That ends September 22). I’m talking about school-year summer, the time when the kids are sitting next to you doing Legos (instead of being in school) while you try to write a blog post. (Oh, hai). Then they want to actually, you know, DO stuff with you.
And you want to “do stuff” with them, too. That’s part of why you had kids, right? So you could sit in the bleachers and watch them solve a Rubik’s...

I Hate You
Okay. I bet the second you read my blog title an ex-significant other popped into your mind and you’re recalling what it was about him or her that caused conflict between the two of you and ended the bond. Think back to the turning point in your relationship.
Was it something he did or didn’t do?
While eating out, did he/she always pick at the dinner you ordered because he decided yours looked or tasted better than the dinner he ordered?
Did he/she always leave the television on when leaving...

RWA NATIONAL IS OVER. I WANT THE DIRT.
The 2017 National RWA conference is over. From all the posts that came to us who stayed at home, it was a fabulous event. You didn’t have to be in Orlando to feel the energy. It sizzled across the net.
Kudos to the RWA staff for pulling off this super conference. You are amazing and thousands of RWA members are truly indebted to you for your dedication.
We now know the names of the published and unpublished RWA members who’ve been chosen as the best of the best by their judges. Congrats fro...

Check in from RWA 2017 Orlando
Welcome from RWA Nationals Conference in hot, sunny, hot Orlando, FL. Here are some images to enjoy from Wednesday, the “pre-conference” day.

Jennifer L. Armentrout
I attended the Day of YA, hosted by YA-RWA. Our keynote speaker was Jennifer L. Armentrout, who gave a lovely, moving, personal talk on how each author should define success her own way and celebrate each milestone along our writer’s journey. She encouraged us not to get so mired in the trappings of the publishing biz that we l...

When did you know you wanted to be an author?
All authors have stories about receiving The Call. For some of us, that big, memorable call might have been about the Golden Hearts or the Ritas. Others may have a call story about getting their agent or first sale. Or maybe it’s the first time they hit a best-seller list.
But The Call that we’ve all experienced is the moment we knew that we were called to write stories–that magical moment we scratched a pencil across paper (or put our hands on the keyboard) and knew this is what I was born t...

Saying Sayonara to a Series
Though fictional characters live primarily in our minds and on the pages we read or write, they find their way into our hearts as well. And when characters have spanned a long-running series, it can be especially hard to let them go when a series wraps up.
My first published series, the Tara Holloway or “Death & Taxes” series, will end in October with the release of the final novel, Death, Taxes, and a Shotgun Wedding. When it’s all said and done, there will be have been 12 full-length novels...
