Despite that we were married in MA in 2008, this morning my wife texted me and said, “I love you. I want to marry you legally. Cross your fingers.” I didn’t realize that we’d been outlaws all these years, but I know what she means by putting it that way. It’s time, SCOTUS: let’s do this and do it right.

“For me, fiction is about memory. So much of my fiction is about my life. There could almost be two kinds of writers: the inventor and the memoirist. One deals with memory and one who invents. I invent too, but I’m more on the memory side than on the invention side. I invent when the memory doesn’t satisfy the fiction, the aims of the fiction. So then I invent things around the memory.”
