"If you got a problem, yo, I'll solve it!"
I've certainly never considered tMoCP to be a "problem" or "issue" novel, but I concede that some of the marketing for it (even the jacket copy) might cause readers to assume as much. That's what book blogger Jody Casella's first impression was, anyway. Thankfully, actually reading tMoCP changed that initial impression for the better; for the much better. She has all kinds of things to say about all of that in her review.

The wonderful Michael Cart offering an astute assessment of YA/Adult novels as "crossover" titles, and also an analysis of the publishing trajectory that lands some novels (particularly literary offerings) in the "YA" section (Aidan Chambers THIS IS ALL) and others (Curtis Sittenfeld's PREP) in the literary/adult section.

I stole (borrowed, took, looted, pilfered, helped-myself to) this gorgeous pic from the blog of the (alarmingly) brilliant Elif Batuman. You should visit it (her blog) and find yourself alarmed by all that you don't know. (If you feel the need to be reminded of such things).

This slow-burst Schweppes commercial is "old," now: but I've not tired of it.

Dave Madden, John Chavez, and I talk about life (just) after leaving Lincoln. (And after completing the CW Ph.D. That, of course.)

I'm as in love with this music sequence from Ty West's wonderful 1980s-inspired (and set) slasher/satanist mashup as I am with any musical montage from any movie actually produced in the 1980s. It makes me want to dance AND it creeps me the hell out. So, it's dancy-scary. And I do love some dancy-scary in my life.

My Advanced Fiction class at RIC is writing—as a class—a story cycle featuring a series of short fictional offerings centered around the same restaurant (and featuring some of the same characters, too). It's an interesting venture and I think they're doing some good work. But then: I'm ever-so-slightly biased.
