Reading The Stand
There’s nothing more I love than a big summer read, a book so bigit needs it’s own tote bag and perhaps a sherpa to cart it around. This summer I picked Stephen King’sThe Stand. I’ve heard amazing things about it from friends and I love King’s writing (no family relation…bah!). But there’s another reason I’ve […]

Bourbon and Books on California Bookstore Day
California Bookstore Day was last Saturday (May 3), and I spent the day at Books Inc. in Palo Alto, one of my favorite bookstores! Bookseller Lori and I were co-hosts at the bar. Lori was mixing up some mean margaritas, and I served up a special drink of the day that my fellow authors and […]

Go ahead. Promote yourself to me.
A few months ago, the writer and editor Meghan Ward had a great post on her blog about How Not to Promote Your Book that was pretty priceless. A writer friend she hadn’t seen in years suddenly appears from nowhere with request after request to connect so she can bombard her friends with “buy my […]

Why I don’t spend a lot of time on Facebook
Last December,Facebook changed its algorithm last year so that very few follower see our pages. It’s cool. Facebook is a public company that needs to work a business model. That model is focusing on large companies (like the one I work for) to pay to reach their audience. Caught in the middle though are small […]

A few months ago, the writer and editor Meghan Ward had a great post on her blog about How Not to Promote Your Book that was pretty priceless. A writer friend she hadn’t seen in years suddenly appears from nowhere with request after request to connect so she can bombard her friends with “buy my book”! We’ve all seen this from fellow authors or, honestly, just about any friend who opens an Etsy store. Social media can be a strong platform to promote your work if you use it to bring value...

wssLast December,Facebook changed its algorithm last year so that very few follower see our pages. It’s cool. Facebook is a public company that needs to work a business model. That model is focusing on large companies (like the one I work for) to pay to reach their audience. Caught in the middle though are small business owners (of which I consider myself when I put on my “writer as a profession” hat). So now, for my audience to see what I put on my Facebook page, I need to boost my posts....
