There’s something about full-on commitment to an endeavor that I admire. I don’t have that gene. There are...

Interview: What I Love About Old Books

This is an interview I did with the wonderful Jennifer Smeth on her blog Bookalicious Mama. Unfortunately, Jennifer no longer runs the blog, but this is one of my favorite interviews so I'm sharing it here.

First of all, many thanks to my friend to M.P. Cooley for inviting me to this blog hop to introduce our characters! I’m on vacation in Oregon right now and reading M.P’s new novel Ice Shear. It’s sooo good so far. I’m just getting to it now because my rascal of a husband grabbed it when I brought it home and just got finished. He loved it, by the way.

Finding your tribe in the Society for Creative Anachronism

A lot of The Moment of Everything is about finding that place and group of people where you can be you. I have several friends who are active in the SCA (Society for Creative Anachronism). I think this group is the perfect example of telling the world, "We don't give a flying frog's arse what you think of us. We're having fun."

In a guest post for today, I asked my friend Liz Hamill to tell us why the SCA was her tribe. From what Liz t...

Bookstore hopping: BookBuyers of Mountain View

The corner in Book Buyers where I read Lady Chatterly's Lover.

The corner in Book Buyers where I read Lady Chatterly’s Lover.

In 2002, I was out of work after another failed start-up. I was exhausted and more than a little heart-broken that I no longer had a job I loved. I’d just moved into an apartment near Castro Street in Mountain View, the setting for much ofThe Moment of Everything. At night, I started walking down to Book Buyers, a huge used bookstore on Castro Street.
