Summer Bible Study for Men

Beginning Monday, July 6th – Only one man in 10 will finish their life strong. Be that man!

Had a great start? Stumbled time and again? Fallen flat on your face? What matters most is how you finish! The man who hangs in for the long haul with his wife, his kids and his Lord is an exception. Maybe only one man in ten will do it. Will you?

Join the Discipleship Home Groups and the Men’s Ministry for an exciting 8-week summer study: Finishing Strong, by Dr. Steve Farrar.

Groups are meeting in your area! To register, visit http://www.ccob.org/ministry/home-groups/sign-up/ and choose one of the men’s groups.

Video – How Do You Love Your Spouse Unconditionally Since We Are Imperfect?

Marriage is under attack these days, so believers must be equipped in the Word of God and how to be a godly spouse. Check out this video where Karen and I answer a very important and often tricky question: How do you love your spouse unconditionally since we are imperfect?

The Visual Bible – The Woman at the Well

Check this clip out from The Visual Bible. Recently at CCOB we have been studying “Jesus and the Individual,” and have encountered the woman at the well. So, it’s great to see it visually to broaden our understanding of it.

Remembering 9/11

We all remember where we were at what we were doing during the 9/11 attacks. It’s an event that forever changed our nation. Shortly after the attacks, many people within our church went straight into New York City to preach the message of hope–the gospel. It was during this time that we realized that the best evangelism method is really quite simple–love and listen.

Take time today (and for the rest of the year, for the matter) to truly love and listen to people. In doing this, you can build a bridge with them, entering into their lives and thus impacting them with the message of hope. Essentially, the best I can sum up this kind of evangelism is this: patient evangelism. Over time of really loving and listening to people, they will be more apt to have what you have.

So, I encourage you all to really listen to people’s story; find out more about their lives, their difficulties, and anything that they are willing to share. Sometimes it will take awhile, but it will sure be worth it in the end!

To see a video of the outreach we did in Union Square shortly after the 9/11 attacks, you can click here.

AWANA

awana-event-banner-web

During Saturday evening service – We warmly invite you to have your child(ren) join us in AWANA every Saturday evening from 5:45pm to 7:30pm during our Saturday evening service.

AWANA is offered to children 3 years old through 5th grade. AWANA stands for Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed, which comes from the scripture verse 2 Timothy 2:15. The AWANA Clubs mission is to “reach boys and girls with the Gospel of Christ and train them to serve Him.”

Our AWANA Club is divided into three age groups:

Cubbies: 3 and 4 years old
Sparks: Kindergarten (or 5 by September 1 of current school year) through 2nd grade
Truth & Training: 3rd grade through 5th grade

Each club night consists of three main parts:

Handbook Time – time devoted to scripture memorization with as much individual attention as possible. Clubbers may pass sections that they have learned from their handbook during this time.
Game Time – indoor games usually played on an AWANA circle designed to encourage friendly competition and good sportsmanship.
Council Time – consists of songs and an age-appropriate Bible story/lesson.

Each week, your child will need to bring his/her Bible and AWANA book. Every new clubber receives a starter book. Please bring it back with you each week until complete. We do have extras, but it is beneficial for each clubber to use their own. Upon completion of the starter book, clubbers who are registered as an official AWANA Club member will receive an AWANA vest or uniform shirt and an AWANA Handbook. Each clubber is awarded “AWANA Bucks” for having his/her Bible, handbook, and uniform each week. AWANA Bucks can also be earned for participating in theme nights, outstanding sportsmanship and displaying Christ-like behavior.

Registration: Registration fee covers the handbook, uniform and awards for the year. You can register below.

We look forward to an awesome year of studying God’s Word and many fun events!

#30DayGospelChallenge

The 30 Day Gospel Challenge is officially underway! I wanted to remind you all to continue with the challenge if you have been so far, and to start doing it if you have not.

For those of you that do not know what it is, the 30 Day Gospel Challenge is a way of spreading the Gospel to those all over social media. For the entire month of September, only post things on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram that have eternal significance. More often than not, social media is used for many trivial things; it’s not always bad that this is so, but I think mediums like Facebook are a great way for Christians to spread the gospel to thousands of people with a click of a button.

We saw how popular the ALS Ice Bucket challenge has been, and there’s no reason to suggest Christians can’t have a larger impact by utilizing social media for the sake of the Gospel. So, are you ready for the challenge?

Here is what you do:

Whatever you post, whether it be a bible verse, video, testimony, etc. include #30DayGospelChallenge somewhere in your post. When September is up, I will look at the list of things that were posted and select a handful to encourage the body here at CCOB with.
