Day One Winner … s

Yesterday on Abbi’s first day of Christmas I gave away a $50 Amazon gift card. However, after asking readers what their #1 wish for Christmas was I realized there were a few I could easily grant. So… there is ONE winner of the Amazon gift card. BUT the readers whose wish I could grant I intend to do that too.

PAULA GRIFFITH - You wished for Misbehaving* for Christmas and that is a gift I can grant.

AMELIA L. BOOR- You wished for all my books you don’t have. Give me a list and I can grant that wish for you.

SIERRA TERRELL- You wished for Misbehaving* for Christmas and I can grant that wish.

JESSICA- You wished for the boxed set of the Sea Breeze series and I can grant that wish.

MELISSA CONWAY- You wished for the paperback copies of the Sea Breeze series and that is a wish I can grant.

ELIZABETH HORBACZEK- You wished for the Sweetest Game by J Sterling. Well, J Sterling will grant your wish and after it’s released she will be signing you a copy and personalizing it to you.

CHRISTI RICHARD JUDICE- You wished for all my books for Christmas… done :)

GWEN LUTZ- You wished for more of my books. I can do that!

ASHLEY AKINS- You wished for a copy of Simple Perfection by me and Beautiful Wedding by Jamie McGuire. I will be signing you a copy of Simple Perfection and Jamie McGuire will be signing you a copy of Beautiful Wedding and granting your wish.

SAMANTHA- You wished for everything Colleen Hoover has written. Colleen will be signing all her books for you and granting this wish.

SARAHAGEE- You wished for Misbehaving* and I can grant that wish for you.

PATRICIA WILSON- You wished for an I Love Woods t-shirt. I can grant that wish.

KAREN ZI- You wished for my book Sometimes It Lasts*. I can grant that wish.

BRANDI AUSTIN- You wished for  Beautiful Wedding by Jamie McGuire. Jamie will be signing you a copy and granting that wish for you.

There were so many Christmas wishes I would love to grant. So many beautiful wishes. I want to say THANK YOU to everyone who has a loved one serving our country. You give up so much and this holiday each and every one of you are in my thoughts.

Now… there was one wish that hit close to home for me. I didn’t write my first book until I was 32 years old. Why? Because I didn’t have a laptop to write it on. I had tried writing it in notebooks but that was hard and I never finished. It wasn’t until my husband gave me a laptop for Christmas that I finally sat down and wrote Breathe. It changed my life.

EMILY BAUGH- your wish is to get a laptop for Christmas so you can write your books. I was that person once. I remember how that felt. I also remember the powerful feeling of holding a computer in my hands knowing I could do it now. No more excuses. So, I want to do that for you. A MacBook Air will be shipped to you from Apple once I have a shipping address. My only request is that you write that book. Follow that dream.

THE $50 AMAZON GIFTCARD goes to…………

TONI GOBIN

ALL WINNERS EMAIL YOUR SHIPPING INFORMATION TO: info@abbiglines.com

*THOSE OF YOU WHO WON MISBEHAVING or SOMETIMES IT LASTS those books are  ebook only until this summer. So I will need the email address that you want me to gift the ebook copy to.

**THOSE OF YOU WINNING PAPERBACK COPIES FROM ME I will sign and personalize those books for you. Please let me know who you want them to be personalized to.

Been there…done that

Hello Author,

This letter is for you. I’m about to embark on my third year as a published author and I’m still a baby to this profession. However, I’ve learned a few things the hard way. I try to ignore watching others make some of the same mistakes I did and for the most part I’ve kept my mouth shut.

If you decide to read this blog post then you’ve been warned I’m about to give you my opinion.

The world of indie authors is like living in a small town where everyone knows your name.  Even if you’re new the moment your book hits the Amazon 100 you’re known by the “young” and “old”.

In a perfect world everyone would congratulate you and be happy for you. In a perfect world the other authors who know how amazing it feels would celebrate along beside you. The authors still hoping to achieve this goal would be thrilled that you made it and hope that one day they know what it feels like too.

This world ain’t perfect, babe. Not by a long shot.

The competition is fierce. Jealousy is rampant and the gloves are off. Am I pointing fingers? Hell, no! I did it too once. I got caught up in this tangled mess that gets you nowhere. I let competition and bitterness control me so that I made bad decisions.

BUT I didn’t do it for long. I stepped back and saw what I was becoming and I faced my wrongs and apologized for them. I did what I could to fix it and make up for my shitty behavior. Then I swore to myself, I would change.

Why?

Well for a number of reasons, which is where my advice comes in…

Readers like to read books. They don’t just want to read books by one author. They like a variety. So, guess what, there is room for everyone. I know readers who read ten books a week. Every week. Take a deep breath and know this pool has room for more.
Other authors understand where you are and what you’re going through more than anyone else in your life. They aren’t your enemy. They can be your very best friends. You’re gonna need them because your old best friends don’t get what your life is like now. No one does… but other authors.
You are now an author… not a reviewer. At least not anymore. You now know how hard it is to write a book. You’ve gone through your own blood, sweat, and tears to get your baby published and it wasn’t easy. You respect others who have done the same. You don’t critique their work. Dude… it’s just wrong.
Gossip is just that… gossip. Run the hell away from it.
That monthly paycheck you watch Amazon KDP for daily, praying it hits that amount you need each month… guess what… other authors are doing that too. They need money to survive too. They have families too. They have a dream too.
People will hate you no matter what. You’ve put yourself out there. Accept it. Deal with it and ignore it. BUT  DON’T join it. BE KIND to those who aren’t kind to you. There is a reason they don’t like you. It may be an unfair reason but there is a reason. Show them you’re not a bad person. You want to be their friend. There is no reason for enemies here, folks. No reason at all.
Posting a Facebook status about the injustice done to you isn’t cool either. I know this because I’ve done it. YEP! Told you I made mistakes. I made several. This was one of them. I am telling you no matter how innocent it may be and how you feel like you need to explain your actions – DON’T. Because your readers love you and they will fight for you. You don’t want to unleash your devoted fans on someone else. It won’t make you feel better. It’ll make you feel like shit. Because… see #5. That applies here.
Lastly, because I decided to write books because I love to tell stories. I didn’t want to become the president of the drama club. I just wanted to share the stories in my head with others and yes I wanted to make money doing it. I wanted to be a writer. That was the reason I started this. YES I make money. I won’t apologize for it. I’m blessed and humbled that people read my stuff. I still fan girl over my favorite authors and I babbled and got all tongue twisted meeting Madeline Sheehan it is a wonder the woman isn’t scared of my fan girl issues.

I probably shouldn’t have just said all this but I see authors make the same mistakes I’ve made and I cringe. I want to stop them and I want everyone to just get along. I’m not a fighter. I don’t like people being mad at me or disliking me. And I don’t want to see others make mistakes they regret.

Remember… that person that you think you “hate” just may be one of the best friends you’ll ever have if you give them a chance.

We are all human.

Humans who all love the same thing… to tell a good story and have someone enjoy it.

RUSH TOO FAR

RUSH TOO FAR

by Abbi Glines

Available from Atria Books in eBook and trade paperback in May 2014

They say that children have the purest hearts. That children don’t truly hate because they don’t fully understand the emotion. They forgive and forget easily.

They say a lot of bullshit like that because it helps them sleep at night. Such sayings make for good, heart-warming clichés to hang on the walls, to bring out a smile in people passing by.

I know differently. Children love like no other. They have the capacity to love more fiercely than anyone else. That much is true. That much I know. Because I lived it. By the age of ten I knew hate and I knew love. Both all-consuming. Both life-altering. And both completely blinding.

Looking back now I wish someone had been there to see how my mother had sown the seed of hate inside of me. Inside of my sister. If someone had been there to save us from the lies and bitterness she allowed to fester within us, then maybe things would have been different. For everyone involved.

I never would have acted so foolishly. It wouldn’t have been my fault that a girl was left alone to take care of her ailing mother. It wouldn’t have been my fault that the same girl stood at her mother’s graveside, believing that the last person on earth who loved her was dead. It wouldn’t have been my fault that a man destroyed himself after his life became a broken, hollow shell.

But no one saved me.

No one saved us.

We believed the lies. We held onto our hate, and I alone destroyed an innocent girl’s life.

They say you reap what you sow. That’s bullshit, too. Because I should be burning in hell for my sins. I shouldn’t be allowed to wake up every morning with this beautiful woman in my arms, who loves me unconditionally. I shouldn’t get to hold my son and know such a pure joy.

But I do.

Because, eventually, someone did save me. I didn’t deserve it. Hell, more than anyone it was my sister who needed saving. She hadn’t acted on her hate. She hadn’t manipulated the lives of our family members, not caring about the outcome. But her bitterness still controlled her while I had been delivered. By a girl…

No, she wasn’t just a girl. She was an angel. My angel. A beautiful, strong, fierce, loyal angel who had entered my life in a pick-up truck, carrying a gun.

The Voice behind Rush’s “Fallen Too Far”

Normally I don’t share the voice behind the song. I have several songs in my books that the “character” has written and performed that I have  recorded and made available for readers to purchase. However, keeping the real performer’s identity a secret helps the reader imagine the fictional character actually singing the song.

BUT! Y’all will not let this thing go with Fallen Too Far. When I tell you it is “Rush Finlay” that sings it you keep on at me. That isn’t the answer you want. You want to know the real artist. So FINE!! I give in!! You have broken my resolve!!

Fallen Too Far is the wedding song in Forever Too Far for those of you who haven’t read the book. You can hear a sample and purchase it here:

https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/fallen-too-far-single/id659106527

Now for a little background info about the songs in my books.

I write the lyrics to the songs as I am writing the book. When the time comes for that song I write it into the scene then I send the lyrics to my cowriter Jay. He takes my lyrics and puts them to music. Then he finds the “voice” we are looking for. *Side note* Jay is also the voice behind Dank (Existence series). You can listen to Dank’s songs here for free: Yet You Stay https://soundcloud.com/abbi-glines/yet-you-stya and Closer https://soundcloud.com/abbi-glines/closer

Jay is who found my voice for Rush. Jay also needs to be credited with the fact he added “I love you girl to the moon and back” to the lyrics. I didn’t have that line originally in the book. When that became one of the favorite quotes from the book it made me laugh. I wasn’t expecting that but it is cool that readers liked it!

When Jay sent me the test track for Rush’s song with the guy’s voice I knew that was the one. He had nailed what I heard in my head.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN- Existence Giveaway!

iStock_000018826779Small She wasn’t supposed to see him….

and he wasn’t supposed to let her live.

My contemporary romances are by far the most popular with readers. However, I do have a paranormal romance. Many readers haven’t even given it a try because they aren’t sure what they will think of it. In celebration of Halloween I’m going to giveaway five signed copies. How to enter? Email me at info@abbiglines.com and tell me your spookiest story before 7pm central time tonight!

Existence is a trilogy:

Existence

Predestined

Ceaseless

(Leif is a novella for those Leif fans out there. It needs to be read between Predestined and Ceaseless if you plan on reading it)

When Death comes knocking on your door you don’t expect him to be the lead singer in a rock band. Pagan Moore’s time is up but she can see souls and has been able to to her entire life. When she spots Death she knows he’s no ordinary soul.

While Existence is a YA book, Predestined starts to push the lines a little further. In the final book Ceaseless it is a New Adult book with the steaminess I am known for. Pagan is in college in Ceaseless so things heat up… big time.

If you haven’t read the series I hope you’ll give it a chance! Existencepic

And if you’re wondering… this would be who I would cast as my Dank aka Death

Dank

Jared Leto

Here Comes Trouble…

Yep. Lots of trouble. If you don’t believe me then you haven’t watched the Ustream I did with Colleen Hoover. Add Jamie McGuire to the mix and we are dangerous….

Okay fine. Maybe we are really just boring authors but it’s fun to pretend that we’re badass. So go with it. Let’s pretend.

Before my 8 day tour with Jamie and Colleen I will be in Austin, Texas this Saturday. Colleen will be there too but so will a lot of other awesome authors. Check this out —-> http://www.lalonemarketing.com/events/austin-author-event/

Monday morning I hop on a plane in Dallas with Colleen Hoover and we head to Ohio (never been there before!) Jamie McGuire will meet us there and then the tour begins!
