TAKE A CHANCE (Grant and Harlow) teaser

An excerpt from TAKE A CHANCE by Abbi Glines

(this is in all its unedited glory. But y’all asked for it )

The morning after Grant had kissed me in the pool, he was gone. The way he’d acted after kissing me had been strange. I wasn’t sure what was wrong or if he had just regretted it and didn’t know how to get away from me. Waking up the next morning and Grant not being anywhere around had answered that question.

Dad was also gone. He hadn’t come home from his latest party binge but then I wasn’t surprised by that. Grant’s running off had hurt me. I hated that I felt anything for him. Kissing him had been a mistake. I wasn’t his type. I never wanted to be his type. Nan was not someone a sane person would desire to be.

Locking myself up in my room to read didn’t sound as appealing as it had before Grant. Instead I threw myself into tennis and swimming. I pushed all thoughts of Grant’s face out of my mind the best that I could. Someone should put a warning label on his lips. Beware don’t touch. They’re hard to forget.

Day three after Grant had disappeared I was outside swimming.  Today I had successfully managed to push all Grant thoughts to the back of my mind. So when my head broke the water to find Grant Carter standing there looking down at me I wasn’t sure if I was imagining things or if he was really there.

I pushed my wet hair back and wiped the water from my eyes. Then I opened them again and there he stood. Still there.

“Hey,” he said with his sexy grin. I wanted to hurl something at him to make that smile go away. It needed a warning label too.

I wasn’t in the mood to talk to him. “Nan isn’t here,” I replied. She hadn’t been back since she’d left for Rosemary the last time. I was sure that was where Grant had run off to as well. He had gone to find her. Like he always did.

“Yeah, I know,” he replied.

I really should go back to swimming and ignore him. It was the smart thing to do. But then he could possibly take that as an invite to join me. “What do you need?” I asked in the most annoyed tone I could muster.

“I came to see you. It seems once a guy kisses you that you’re hard to forget,” he replied.

Not what I had been expecting. I swallowed the nervous knot in my throat.  I would cave and forgive him too easily if he started saying things like that. Where had my backbone gone? I used to be stronger than this.

“You’re mad because I left,” he said.

I thought about replying and changed my mind. That would only give him more power. He didn’t need to know he affected me at all.

“It was a jackass thing to do. But you scared me. I like to flirt with beautiful girls but I don’t handle it well when one simple kiss makes my fucking head spin. You make me want things and feel a way I’m not ready for.”

I was expecting a lame “I’m sorry” not that. “Oh,” was the only thing I could come up with to say. What did it mean exactly that our kiss made his head spin? Was that a good thing? It sounded like it… maybe.

Grant ran a hand through his long unruly hair and let out a frustrated sigh. “I shouldn’t have left you without an explanation. It was unfair and I was only thinking of myself. I’m good at that. I just… what can I do to get you to forgive me?”

He still wasn’t asking for forgiveness. He was asking how to get forgiveness. Had anyone ever asked me how to get forgiveness before? How… unique.

The Vincent Boys turn Two

Two years ago today I uploaded my first self published book to Amazon- The Vincent Boys

Breathe had been published that past May through Wild Child Publishing but I wanted to try to do things my way. The self publishing world seemed to be working for Tammara Webber and Jamie McGuire. I had been watching their books in Breathe’s “also boughts” on Amazon and they intrigued me. I had read Tammara’s Between the Lines and Jamie’s Beautiful Disaster and I figured if they could do it then I could at least give it a try.

I didn’t expect big sales. I just hope to sell some copies. Maybe make enough to pay for the poor editing I’d paid over $800 for (hard lesson learned in hiring an editor) and the cover art (that I still love to this day and only had to pay $50). I figured if I broke even then things would be good.

Before the month of October was over I realized that I could really make a living at this. People were reading The Vincent Boys and telling others about it. Even Tammara Webber emailed me about it! I had been struck speechless (still makes me smile today now that she has become one of my closest friends).

Two things I learned from The Vincent Boys (and Beau Vincent especially)

#1 Readers liked that I had pushed the lines. They wanted something juicer than your traditional YA because older readers were reading YA now. Twilight had won over a major fan base of adult readers reading YA books. But they still wanted that edge they couldn’t get in YA. Why not write for them instead?

#2 Using the word “cock” did not ruin my writing career. My mother hadn’t disowned me, my church hadn’t kicked me out, and most importantly I had liked writing the scene that word was used in. My books were going to need to get steamier. So my characters needed to be just a little older but not too old. Like Marcus Hardy in Breathe. He had almost been twenty. Readers loved him. I would give him a story and I would write it for those adults reading YA. The idea for Because of Low was born.

That July The Vincent Boys scored me my first contract with Simon Pulse. My world changed completely.

In celebration for the two year anniversary of not only The Vincent Boys but the change in my writing style that took me from a writer just getting by to a New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and a USA Today bestselling author not once but five times- I have the shirt all you Beau Vincent fans have been asking for….

XOXO

Too Far series signed copies

Y’all keep asking for a way to buy signed copies. So, I had it set up on a products page. The only books I can sell signed are the ones that are still self published.

You can order the whole set for a discount or each one separately http://store.abbiglines.com/collections/all

In other news, Simple Perfection (Woods & Della #2) releases this coming Monday. I have to admit I am pretty excited about this one. I loved finishing their story. If you haven’t read their first book it is Twisted Perfection. Woods Kerrington showed up first in Fallen Too Far. YES Rush and Blaire make an appearance in Simple Perfection. There may just be a badass Blaire scene in Simple Perfection that was in Forever Too Far only retold in Della’s point of view. Those that have read Forever know what scene I am talking about.

What’s next for me?

December 17 – Misbehaving (Sea Breeze #6) releases in ebook format. It is Jason Stone’s story. (remember Jax Stone from Breathe‘s younger brother. He also makes an appearance in Just For Now.) This is my first “bad girl” book and I’m having a blast writing it.

February 3 – Take A Chance (Grant & Harlow #1) releases. Grant is another Rosemary character that is introduced in Fallen Too Far when Blaire pulls her gun on him in the very first chapter. He also shows up in all the Too Far books and Perfection books.

I’m headed back to my cave to write! Thanks for reading :)

XOXO,

Abbi

The Reading Order

I get questions from new readers all the time on what order to read my books. I’ve written a lot and it’s confusing, I know. So this is here to help you!

The Vincent Boys Series:

#1 The Vincent Boys (Beau Vincent)

#2 The Vincent Brothers (Sawyer Vincent)

#3 My Vincent Boys (release date unknown)

note: There are two versions of these books. One version is the original and it is mature YA. The extended and uncut version is very NA. This was something my publisher requested when I signed with them. So I did it.

The Sea Breeze Series:

#1 Breathe (Jax Stone) This is a YA book and the first book I ever published.

#2 Because of Low (Marcus Hardy) This book is NA as the rest of this series is NA. This one isn’t as explicit as the next books but it is much more so than Breathe.

#3 While It Lasts (Cage York)

#4 Just For Now (Preston Drake)

#5 Sometimes It Lasts (Cage York #2) releases August 27

#6 Misbehaving (Jason Stone) releases December 17

Answers to questions: I plan on writing Dewayne a book and possibly Krit.

I’m going to stop calling this next series the Too Far series because it’s confusing with all the spin offs. I am going to call it—

The Rosemary Beach Series:

#1 Fallen Too Far (Rush Finlay)

#2 Never Too Far (Rush Finlay)

#3 Twisted Perfection (Woods Kerrington)

#4 Forever Too Far (Rush Finlay)

#5 Simple Perfection (Woods Kerrington) releases Sept 23

#6 Take A Chance (Grant Carter) releases Feb 3

#7 One More Chance (Grant Carter) Not sure on release date

Answers to questions: I plan on writing Tripp two books also. And YES I am going to write Rush Too Far which is Rush’s version of Fallen Too Far. Not sure on release date for that one either.

Existence Trilogy:

#1 Existence

#2 Predestined

#2.5 Leif

#3 Ceaseless

Answers to questions: This series is complete. YES one day I will write another paranormal series. It might possibly be the Voodoo Prince’s story. I just don’t know yet. It has to strike me

FUTURE series: Once all the books I mentioned have been written I do have a brand new series outlined and sitting on my desk begging me to write it. It will be a more mature New Adult like the Rosemary books.

And for those of you who read the prologue to the book Every Memory that I started and never finished, I do intend to finish that book. You can read it here if you haven’t http://ataleofmanybookreviews.com/birthday-bash-for-abbi-glines-exclusive-excerpt-from-every-memory-giveaway/

Misbehaving – the rock star’s brother gets a story.

I feel like it is the month of cover reveals for me. But here I go again!

Sea Breeze #6 will be Jax Stone’s younger brother Jason Stone’s story.

Misbehaving

by

Abbi Glines

An unexpected affair leads to mind-blowing harmony in this Sea Breeze novel from New York Times bestselling author Abbi Glines.

Jason is sick of living in his rock star brother’s shadow. So when he ships off to Sea Breeze, Alabama, he’s looking for a much deserved escape and a chance to blow off some envious steam. Falling for the local bad girl was definitely not the plan. But as the new duo enjoys some naughty fun in the Alabama sun, Jason learns that even though Jax is the musician in the family, he’s not the only brother who can rock someone’s world.

Misbehaving

Sneak Peek:

Excerpt from Misbehaving by Abbi Glines

All I could see was lots of long blond hair dressed in tight black clothing and she was standing in the middle of the road…. holding a baseball bat.  Only in Alabama did stuff like this happen. Stopping before I hit her, I watched as she ran over to the passenger side door and knocked. The wild panicked look in her eyes might have been disturbing if they weren’t a bright clear blue color with thick black lashes. I pressed the unlock button and she jerked the door open and climbed inside.

“Go! Go! Go!” She demanded. She didn’t even look my way. Her eyes were focused on something outside. I turned my attention to the side of the road where she was watching with such intensity. There was nothing… then a guy came bursting out of the woods with an angry snarl on his face and I understood. I shifted gears and took off. No wonder she was terrified. The guy was huge and looked ready to murder someone.

“OhmyGod, thank you. That was so close.” She let out in a sigh of relief and rested her head on the leather seat.

“Should I take you to the police station?” I asked glancing over at her. Had he attacked her before she’d gotten free?

“Definitely not. They’ll probably be looking for me in about ten minutes. I need you to take me to my momma’s. She’ll cover for me. Besides that’s where my truck is.”

They’d be looking for her? Her mom would cover for her? What?

“It ain’t like he’s got any proof. The only thing I dropped was the hockey mask and it was a cheapo I bought at the Goodwill a couple of Halloweens ago. Not something he can trace back to me.”

I slowed the Porsche down as her words started sinking in. I hadn’t just saved a girl from being attacked. If I understood this babbling correctly I had just become the getaway car.

“Why’re you slowing down? I need to get to my momma’s like now. She’s just two miles from here. You go up to county road thirty-four and turn right, then you take it about three fourths mile to Orange Street and take a left. She’s the third house on the right.”

Shaking my head I pulled over to the side of the road.  “I’m not going any further until you tell me exactly what it is I’m helping you escape from?” I glanced down at her baseball bat tucked between her legs then up at her face. Even in the darkness I could tell she was one of those ridiculously gorgeous southern blonds. It was like they had some special ingredient to raise them like that down here.

She let out a frustrated sigh and blinked rapidly causing tears to fill her eyes. She was good. Real good.  Those pretty tears were almost believable.

“It’s a really long story. By the time I explain everything we will have been caught and I’ll be spending the night in jail. Please, please, please just take me to my momma’s. We’re so close.” She pleaded. Yeah, she was a major looker. Too bad she was also bad news.

“Tell me one thing, why do you have a baseball bat?” I needed something. If she’d knocked someone unconscious back there then I couldn’t help her getaway. They could be injured or dead.

She ran her hand through her hair and grumbled. “Okay, okay fine. But understand that he deserved it.”

Shit. She had knocked someone out.

“I smashed all the windows in my exboyfriend’s truck.”

“You did what?” I couldn’t have heard her correctly. That did not happen in real life.  Country songs, yes. Real life, no way.

“He’s a cheatin’ bastard. He deserved it. He hurt me so I hurt him. Now, please believe me and get me out of here.”

I laughed. I couldn’t help it. This was the funniest damn thing I’d ever heard.

“Why’re you laughing?” she asked

I shook my head and pulled back onto the road. “Because that’s not what I was expecting to hear.”

“What did you expect me to say? I’m carrying a bat.”

Glancing over at her I grinned, “I thought you’d taken someone out with the bat.”

Her eyes went wide and then she laughed. “I wouldn’t have knocked someone out with a bat! That’s crazy.”

I wanted to point out that smashing your exboyfriend’s truck windows then running through the woods in escape at night was crazy.  But I didn’t. I was pretty sure she wouldn’t agree.

SOMETIMES IT LASTS— Cage returns this month!

A year ago this month, I self published a book that Tammara Webber (NYT bestselling author of EASY) demanded I write. I had introduced Cage York in Because of Low. He was just supposed to be a side character but as Tammara pointed out “he stole the show” and required his own book.

I locked myself away thinking “I can’t write Cage as a main character. He says the F-bomb too much and he is very very naughty. How will I write this and get away with it?”

But I did.

And WOW was I surprised. I liked writing Cage! He was fun! And I loved the story of Eva.

This month is now CAGE month. Simon Pulse will be releasing the print version of While It Lasts August 6. Then its sequel Sometimes It Lasts will release in ebook format on August 27. The print will be out later.

Cage York has to choose between a love of the game and a love of the girl in this sultry Sea Breeze novel from New York Times bestselling author Abbi Glines.

After waiting for his big break, bad boy Cage York is finally called up to prove his worth in the college baseball arena. But when Cage’s girlfriend, Eva, mourns the sudden loss of her father, it’s not Cage’s comforting arms she runs to, but those of her former fiancé’s twin brother, Jeremy.

Torn between his baseball dream and the girl of his dreams, Cage must prove he’s worthy of Eva’s love, or risk losing her to Jeremy forever.

SOMETIMES IT LASTS releases as an ebook on August 27, 2013. (Print coming to stores later) COVER for Sometimes It Lasts also coming soon!

Here is the teaser I read last night in the live chat for those of you who missed it. (Note: this is in its unedited glory.)

Cage had been helping Daddy all week. It was as if it was last summer again… but it wasn’t. This time my dad was working with Cage and I was allowed near Cage… and my daddy was sick.  “He should be back soon. He had to go take care of some things and get more of my things.” I trailed off because Daddy liked to try and talk me into leaving here when he got a chance.

He let out a weary sigh and I knew he was about to say something he knew I didn’t want to hear. I prepared myself for him telling me I needed to leave again. “I know you want to stay with me. I understand it. And honestly I’m glad you do. I want to spend as much time with you as I can. You’re the most important thing in my life. You know that right?”

I wasn’t going to cry. I couldn’t do that to him. He needed to talk and I had to be strong enough to let him. I nodded instead.

“Good. ‘Cause I need to say something that you’re not gonna wanna hear. But I love you and I want you to always be happy. I know Cage makes you happy. He may not have been my choice for you but he loves you like a crazy man. I’ve seen it all over his face this week. He’ll do anything you ask him to including go jumping off a bridge. So, I am telling you this cause someone needs to. You gotta let that boy go, baby girl. He came here last summer because he had a plan. He had one chance to get the future he wants and even though he is a rascal he is a smart boy. He got what he wanted. But if you ask him to let it go he will. In a heartbeat. Don’t make him choose. Let him go. Make it okay for him to go take that dream he fought for. Do it ‘cause you love him.”

Daddy and Jeremy had always thought alike. I should have known this was bothering Daddy too. It warmed my heart to know my daddy was thinking of Cage’s best interest. Not just mine. I wanted my daddy to love Cage too.

“I’m talking to him tonight. He’ll be going tomorrow. I’m not giving him a choice. I’m not breaking things off we will just do the long distance thing.”
