Enhance your e-book. Photo: Alex Washburn/Wired

Enhance your e-book. Photo: Alex Washburn/Wired

There’s no use arguing… Amazon is an ebook pioneer. One can argue that the popularity of the Kindle has pushed ebooks and ereaders to what they are today. And now Amazon is pushing the e-envelope one step further with ebook extras. Check this out:

As far as media delivery goes, e-books are pretty flat. You get the book and maybe some notes or background info from the publisher, and that’s pretty much it.

That’s not good enough for Amazon. The compa...

ARTICLE BY JOE FASSLER VIA THE ATLANTIC

king_bannerStephen King brings us two new novels in 2013 — one on shelves already, and the other forthcoming. In June,Joylandwas published byHard Case Crime, an imprint showcasing classic and contemporary crime writers in paperback editions dressed up like vintage pulps: Stylized covers feature ominous taglines, brooding private dicks, and draped-out femme fatales. That Old E-book Smell

ebook
ARTICLE VIA CRITICAL MARGINS | BY KEVIN EAGAN
Let’s stop saying that e-books lack the good feelings we associate with print books and enjoy reading again.

One of thearguments against e-booksis that because they lack physicality, they don’t have the same character as print books. Many readers associate the smell of the pages, feel of the book, and even the cover design with good memories and say this can’t be replicated on an e-reader.

Horrifying Hospitals You Never Want To Stay In

Article byJeff Kellyvia Listverse

Hospitals are, by and large, pretty creepy. After all, you’re talking about big, sterile, labyrinthine structures where people often go to die. And that’s just actual medical hospitals. We haven’t even touched the insane creepiness of mental hospitals, which kick things up two or three notches based on their purpose and history alone.

Either way, there’s a reason that a lot of scary movies are based on old, run down and abandoned hospitals. These buildings are...

How Publishing Is A Lot Like Project Mayhem

il_fullxfull.293137086

I’ve been re-reading Fight Club, and I was struck by a particular scene this time around–one that I couldn’t help but compare to the difficulty of getting your foot into the publishing industry’s door. The scene begins when the first Project Mayhem hopeful appears on the front porch of the house on Paper Street. The guy is standing at attention.
