POETRY PROMPT 15|30

Write a poem that does the following:

1) Pick a fight with something inanimate.
2) Find a striking resemblance between the inanimate object and something/someone in your life.
3) Leave wherever you are to get away from the object.
4) How did you take it with you still?

Megan Falley will be posting a brand new writing prompt every day of April on her Facebook page. Happy National Poetry Month!

mileswalser:

8 days post-op and finally got to see the results. It’s not pretty yet, but it’s real. It was unnerving to get queasy taking off the bandages and to be grossed out by the blood/stitches. I was a little scared to be scared of my body, but after showering and getting to relax a few minutes out of the compression vest, it hit me that it’s over/finally beginning. And it’s pretty fucking awesome. #ftm #trans #transguy #transman #topsurgery #ftmtopsurgery #queer

hero.

POETRY PROMPT 9|30

For some reason I am thinking of these charts we made in math class (ew) as kids, where there were two columns, one titled IN and one titled OUT and there were numbers in each and the goal was to figure out the rule. So say “5, 11, 6.8” were in the “IN” column, and “7, 13, 8.8” were in the out column (respectively), then the RULE would be +2. Sometimes the RULE was written on the top and the IN or OUT column was blank. But essentially something was always blank, and another thing had to be figured out.

Make one of these math class boxes, although, don’t put any real math in it. Maybe you write 5 things in your IN column and 5 in your OUT and then, you the POET, have to decide what the rule is. OR come up with a rule for your life. Like “I WANT TO ADD LOVE TO EVERYTHING.” So maybe you have your IN column and it says “public parks, bathroom stalls, lanes of traffic” and your outbox, after you have added love, becomes “laying down in the grass and never checking my phone, writing ”[NAME OF PERSON I LOVE] IS SO BEAUTIFUL I MEAN HAVE YOU SEEN THEIR SMILE" on the back of the stall door, and giving the toll booth operator $20 to pay for every car behind me to cross through" respectively.

Make some boxes. I promise there’s a poem in there.

Hey you 30/30 warriors. I am rooting for you. And I’ll be posting a brand new writing prompt every single day this month to help you achieve this gorgeous goal. Check them all out here

“Redhead and the Slaughter King is one of the most fearlessly tender, tough-graced, feminism-fueled collections that has ever had me running through my house screaming, ‘This book is SO GODAMN GOOD!’ Annihilating my ideas of risk in writing, and reaching deep into my familial heart, it is the first piece of art that has managed to pull me back home.”
