on writing about lana del rey
Just found out that my poem, “Lana Del Rey Sells Me On Sadness”, is going to be published in theFreezeRay Poetry Anthology about music! Thanks, Freezeray!
I also want to say, again, that writing “Bad Girls, Honey”, my collection of poems about Lana Del Rey, forthcoming on Tired Hearts Press, has been some of the most joy I’ve ever had with my own writing. I was truly putting off finishing the book because I didn’t want to tuck away all my adventures with Lana. On the day I submitted the complete manuscript to its publisher, I wrote this poem (#248 of 2014), and I share it now, with you:

Support protestors in Ferguson through poetry!
Hi poetry lovers, activists, and generally GOOD HUMAN BEINGS: there is a 24 hour live streaming POETRY EVENT tonight. Poets of color from all across the country will be reading you poems to help raise money for the protestors in Ferguson, MO. I believe in this so much. This is so important. This is where you should put your money and your mind.
&&& IN CASE the words “24 hour live stream of poetry” and “support protestors in Ferguson” didn’t do it for you (weird) - you should know that some of the poets reading are Sarah Kay, Rachel McKibbens, Hieu Nguyen, Hanif Abdurraqib to name a few.
