fernangelbeattie:

Megan Falley is easily my favourite poet. I recently bought her debut poetry book and read it from front to back within a couple hours - quite simply, I devoured it. ‘After the Witch Hunt’ is a literary banquet, so rich and thick with every sweet flavour that I took great drags on her words like drinking milkshake through a straw (thank you Grace, I knew that phrase would be of beautiful use somewhere). My internal thought process the entire time sounded like a Herbal Essences advert: “Yes, Yes, YES” as she smashed each page, polishing her flawless pieces with what could almost be considered punchlines, every time. I love it so much I re-read it again today, and it took me even less time than the last. I’ve never had that with poetry before, normally I hiccup my way through or need to take breaks. But this was perfect. 10/10, 5 stars Megan. I am thoroughly inspired and I can feel freshly formed ideas ready to be piped out of me like icing now. I’ll be reblogging some more of my favourites and I’m really looking forward to the release of ‘Readhead & the Slaughter King’.

"Lately I’ve been thinking about who I want to love, and how I want to love, and why I want to love..."

“Lately I’ve been thinking about who I want to love, and how I want to love, and why I want to love the way I want to love, and what I need to learn to love that way, and how I need to become to become the kind of love I want to be. And when I break it all down, when I whittle it into a single breath, it essentially comes out like this: before I die, I want to be somebody’s favorite hiding place, the place they can put everything they need to survive, every secret, every solitude, every nervous prayer, and be absolutely certain I will keep it safe. I will keep it safe.”

"You can never read your own book with the innocent anticipation that comes with that first delicious..."

“You can never read your own book with the innocent anticipation that comes with that first delicious page of a new book, because you wrote the thing. You’ve been backstage. You’ve seen how the rabbits were smuggled into the hat. Therefore ask a reading friend or two to look at it before you give it to anyone in the publishing business. This friend should not be someone with whom you have a romantic relationship, unless you want to break up.”
