This one is a mystery, intriguing, and colorful characters, and tricky romance and conflicts. An enjoyable read, and will be updating as I pull the review together to honour all the witty, sensual and menage of trouble.
Eva Marie Paulliere, author of One Woman, and Menage a Trouble, presents the third and final installment of the Two Stories Series.
Amber, tired of her shallow relationship with her friend Cam and the pizza delivery man finds new love with Matt, a private investigator. Seeing how happy Amber is, Cam decides she wants a real relationship too. On Cheryl's advice, using the law of attraction she describes who her perfect man would be. Akiko, desperate to change her ways flies to Britain to seek the help of the last person she knows that can, Tanya, whose husband she once had an affair with.
Scott, Mark’s older, richer, and more attractive womanizing brother gets brushed off by a blonde, then shortly after meets a sexy Asian woman. A red-haired waitress takes an interest in him as well.
Parallel paths don’t always end with similar fates. While Akiko was a thorn in Mark’s side, Scott’s new girlfriend Asia may be the death of him.
I like how the author is able to take many characters, add conflict, suspense and backstabbing, forgiveness and life lessons and adversity to create a witty yet witty, not the word, a mengre of trouble as the author states. A delightful read, for mature ages.

Contains scenes of an explicit sexual nature, violence and some drug use. For 18+ readers only.

***This book is one of those when life is sending you a message, you should listen; a message that we are united as one and that with an open mind. We all have childlike wonder of faith of the energies we all carry inside us. Life is a challenge and we are here to learn and share this knowledge. He details her beauty and the kindness of strangers all combine to assist a wounded soul chained to societal rules. Learning how to shed it all and the author wrote a diary that includes expressive pictures all regarding number 3. That symbolism and the energies we all have untapped inside made the reader ponder her purpose here on earth, more thoroughly after reading this. Highly recommend this to readers in a rut, or lost and looking for more than the rat race grind. It opens the eyes and heart to views the earthly realm in her magnificent wonder and the gifts awaiting one. Compassion is through the whole book. Heartwarming and very educational.

"MEAT CAMP (by J.T. Warren & Scott Nicholson)
"MEAT CAMP (by J.T. Warren & Scott Nicholson)
J.T. and I adapted this from my original B-movie horror screenplay. It's a little different from my usual but hey..."
As a reader I read Liquid Fear and others by Scott Nicholson, I was hooked. This was during Hurricane Sandy, as the lights were disconnected and the house lit by candles. Every noise the gusts of wind made me jump, as a tree branch hit the side of the house I thought I was going to jump out of my skin.
So of course when the author is offering a special, his newest book with a promotion for reviews and an opportunity to win more of his books and created Meat Camp with his partner J.T. Warren, I was intrigued. Actually I was restless and needed a terrifying scare and knew that Nicholson and Warren could definitely stimulate this reader's mind.
Meat Camp here I come. This time it is a sunny breezing day and for back up I put on Meditation music to read this story for I can tell from the preview, as a reader I am about to be scared, **** out my head.
The story opens with the setting of the woods, the old cranky farmer, now camp owner, the odd house, the sniffing of wild animals, intruders? His ramblings about no good punks need a good switching,
The plot is set in a farm/ camping grounds, with many colorful characters, from the virgin, Casanova, troubled youth, and the intriguing plot of teenagers always on the hunt, will she or will she not give it up? Includes the real estate tycoon. coming to survey the bounty of open land and dreams of becoming richer with development of condos and such. The hunting of the contiguous diseased zombies and other events kept this reader entertained.
I like Grumpy old coot, and his good kind daughter running a camp for troubled youth, and with Nicholson witty style the story flows peaceful, as a reader i am savouring it, and waiting for the scare to jump out of the pages. He leads the reader on a goose chase, with the missing dog, the rebellious teenagers playing pranks, and wild animals hunting their prey. Question, who is the monster in this story, the reader wonders. The anticipation is building, even the meditation music can not cut through what was coming. The plots thickens, the jealous boyfriend, the scheming vixen and the plot to exact justice, to hatch a plan to have riches beyond their wildest dreams, but ...
The city youngsters unfamiliar with the woods, and the descriptive details and wild imaginations can make anyone terrified, never knowing if a wild rabid animal, Satan cult, out for blood letting, or other unimaginable creatures and incidents can occur in the dark shadowy woods.
The plot only intensifies, the strange dead animals, rabid and no marks, the frigid girl saving for Mr. Right, the furious notch on the belt player, was played and now he wants revenge. Not this monstrous, yet karma is a witch. The pot smokers, and the Casanova has a heart, at the last moment.... and others, all unique in their own way.
The story continues with the city Police officer who decides to look for the green on the other side of the fence relocated to the backward town, after a scary incident, he does not know as sheriff what and the old coot's family with the kind hearted daughter trying to save the farm was about to discover. The rose colored ideal of opening it as a rehabilitation for wayward youth, was only the tip of the iceberg. What was hidden in the woods, was the climax. The present characters and plus other cocky characters are facing their worst nightmare. The suspense is like a train running out of control, and keeps the reader on their edge of their seat, waiting.....
It is up there with his other works, with an edge, kudos to the authors for writing a scary tale that had this reader's heart thumping rapidly, waiting to see who the next victim was to be. I enjoyed the heroic female with the skills to defend herself and other characters. The conclusion was a blast back to the past, how Alfred Hitchcock and other horror experts left the reader craving for more.
In the authors' words:
But a strange infection contaminating the camp's mess hall soon triggers a violent rampage. As the isolated camp turns into a bloodbath, camp counselor Jenny Usher first fights to save the children, and then finds she must fight to save herself.
Because this infection doesn't just kill, it brings the dead back to life...

The Light by Robert Hammond (the mystical odyssey of a prodigal son whose spiritual journey tumbles like a rollercoaster)

In the author’s words “Abel Adams is essentially an allegorical composite of all of us who have gone astray at some point in our lives,” says the author. “I believe that many people will discover they deeply identify with Abel’s desperate desire for deliverance.”What I have previewed as a reader, this book is a keeper, it has all the elements of light, darkness, confusion of identification in a tumultuous time and the character Abel has caught this reader's heart. He is walking a risky life path, and the vessels and experiences he comes across and lives thru many trials, is a witness that for everyone, no matter how far they fall into the abyss of darkness, there is always hope to come back. Be reborn to the light. I can that tell this is a human mystical story that calls to wounded and lost children/adults and gives them inspiration to break free from their chains of bondage. Highly recommend this book, especially in these tsunami like times, as darkness is closing in and we need more light and encouragement. One lives life, you get up, prepare for work, do your chores, give of yourself to others, go to bed, and awake to the next day, the same routine day in and day out. There is a season for everything as my grandmother used to tell me. We all experience joy, sadness, bounty and agony in our brief lives, which is a span of a blink of an eye.
Then again when the season changes and the storms pour in, we feel alone and deserted, we call upon a higher power to help us through.
Well it seems this is a season for this reader, the authors and books I have read in the past month are messages of forgiveness and living in the moment.
The Light by Robert Hammond is one of these inspiring gifts, a message calling out to the lost souls wandering as nomads in the darkness.
It is written with understanding that is so deep and powerful, as the main character Abel is pulled into the darkness of addiction, so wicked a snare he is bind in its trappings, he thought he would never see the light. Until the one last final crash and he ends up in prison one too many times, he experiences a miraculous transformation.
He receives his purpose that he has to make amends to the people he hurt and damaged along the way as evil played him as a puppet looking for the next fix, be it Heroin, LSD and/or prescriptions medications. He was a doper, dealer, liar, thief and a murderer of his own soul.
The author has the gift of soulful insight to write a heart wrenching tale of a not just a drug addict, but a broken soul the minute he was born into the earth's atmosphere. He was intoxicated with the three taboos, “the three assassins’ fear, guilt and resentment” that would keep any soul trapped, and lost in limbo. From the day of his birth until his transformation he suffered so much agony and carried it deep in his core, the gripping swallowing pain of loneliness, it sent him on a path of destruction, and weariness, he had no choice but to seek the light.
When he found the peace he so desperately craved, he was in union with his spiritual calling and knew that he had to right the wrongs and ask for forgiveness if he was to attain his recovery. This is not your typical drug addict story, this in an depth analysis of all that the human race, wounded or not, need to read to discover the mystical as profound reason why some who declare to find the light are not insane, instead they have found the truth, they are blessed.
In the author’s words “The Light is the mystical odyssey of a prodigal son whose spiritual journey tumbles like a rollercoaster through a wild mix of philosophical, psychological, and religious experiences amid the turbulent post-1960s counterculture.”

Now the HFA promotion is over until August 2014. This reader can go back to reviewing books. I miss reading. This is a gift to be cherished, an arc coming out in June 2013. I have the honour to read and submit a review. This book is on my treasure shelf, it was a transforming story, and such a memorable one. A definite keeper, and the author is in my top ten list of the year, actually life I believe.

Book DescriptionPublication Date: June 11, 2013'The Last Sewer Ball' is a 'sort of sequel' to Steven Schindler's cult classic novel, 'Sewer Balls.' Whitey, Vinny and the rest of the kids from the block come back to life on the stoops, streets, and hangouts of the Bronx in the 1960s. Follow them from 'then' til 'now', as secrets that simmered since childhood bubble to the surface and eventually explode when past and present collide with not so instant karma.
This time in book 2, the author goes from the present to the past through flashbacks, with an intriguing spin. It starts at an Elementary Catholic School reunion, 20 years later and the colorful characters all come together to reminisce about the past. The characters- Vinny, Whitney and others explore their lives and experiences as teenagers in the Kingsbridge section of the Bronx. It opens with a witty real comfortable style of writing, about the regrets of his past and present life, and he is meeting in the present with his old neighborhood buddies. He is embarrassed that his once rich high living life-style ended in divorce, unemployed and he is sleeping on his sister's couch in Bronxville.
The descriptive plot and setting had this Bronx native, reliving her teenage years in the Bronx, as an Irish Lassie, who lived with two brothers and a father, all on the road to binging with alcohol and drugs. I was in the midst of the setting, but at the other side of the tracks, 241st and White Plains Road. I was a jealous pre-teen, teenager, as my father was overprotective and I was upset that my younger brother escapes to Kingsbridge and has tales to this day of him and his friends and their zany actions. I would eavesdrop on their conversations, about anything from sneaking off to exploring Vancortlandt Park (Vannie) Park, to hiding in their friends basements and doing guy things, or going to the rooftops to gaze at the stars.
My experiences through the character's experiences, I too remember my first kiss and petting with the boys, under the El as the number two pulled in to 238th St and White Plains Rd station or behind the old trees, in the local park. As he described their adventures in the magical lost hikes into the land of mysteries all bored teens find themselves in, as a reader I had to laugh or scorn the hoodlums, just normal guys out having fun. He tells of the adventures of exploring all the hidden coves that young people locate to escape the peeping eyes of adults. Gathering on a hot summer’s day, and the adventures they discover from the homeless bums, the crack addicts to the necking of couples, and the secrets all hidden away until time passes and the truth is brought to the light.
Instead of being a camp counselor for a Catholic School, I worked for a Jewish camp in Brewster. As I got half-way through the book, of the Irish antics, loyalty and the celebrations, the wakes, and life in Kingsbridge with all its secrets, I was taken back in time. I was transformed back to my child and teen hood years. My friends, they could have been the characters in the story. Sometimes the memories he penned hit me like a freight train, painful but at the same time blissful, as the train barely hit, as the characters play chicken across the tracks.
The author was so descriptive and easily weaves a delightful tale with a unique flair which brought the reader thick into the story, as the pages turn it takes a mysterious turn, suspenseful conflict. On the thread as in life, we lost touch with old friends, especially close ones like the friends and the ones who struck by our sides through all the BS of living from family to death, and held our secrets to the grave.
The main character wonders what happen to his closest buddy, rumors disturbed him. He plans an agenda to find him and with all his resources he goes on a mission to find his friend, starting at the neighborhood pubs, to continue the intrigue of possible romance with his dream girl who goes with him to go search for him. They traces his closest friend life's journey from rumors, lies and truths, to discover the missing piece of the puzzle, and the conclusion was beyond amazing, so spiritual and so suspenseful, it took this reader's breath away, and sent tingling chill up my spine, as well as the moist tears.
Finishing the story I wanted to go right back in, yet savoring the memories and the tapestry of details this author penned unique style of writing about fictional and non-fictional characters, and their lives as teenagers in the Bronx, I put the book down for another day. The tale spins 20 years later he came back home to be faced with a dilemma, and the crux how will it be resolve?. As a reader I definitely recommend this tale, as this story will definitely hit a chord in everyone's mind, heart and soul, to go back to the past without packing a suitcase as a New Yorker or not.
Steven Schindler
Steven SchindlerBiographyBorn and raised in the Bronx, Steven Schindler's first two novels, Sewer Balls and From the Block, are artfully gritty portrayals of the neighborhood characters who hung out on the stoops, playgrounds, rooftops and barstools during the crazy days of the Bronx in the sixties and seventies. Both books offer a heavy dose of mad, inner-city youthful adventures laced with awkward teenage sex, rock and roll, and the search for the perfect egg cream, i.e. the essence of life itself. After graduating with a degree in film and theatre from Hunter College, he soon found himself acting in off-off Broadway productions around the city, including a geodesic dome in the Bronx, an Italian restaurant in Brooklyn, a loft in SoHo and at the Provincetown Playhouse in Greenwich Village. Bartering a deal at a prominent NY drama school to videotape classes in exchange for acting… Read more
