We Should Address Real Problems in America, Not Dwell on Reparations
Ying Ma interviewed civil rights icon Robert Woodson at a virtual forum on reparations last Wednesday. “Our time and attention should not be on reparations–the assumption that money is the solution–but we should be investing in people that are engaged in self-help and self-restoration,” said Woodson, founder of the Woodson Center.
America’s social maladies today are moral and spiritual in nature, Woodson told Ma. “We have to address the real problems,” he continued. “We can’t do that if we have to be sitting here talking about reparations.”
Woodson’s social activism dates back to the 1960s, when he fought for civil rights in the era of Dr. Martin Luther King. In his remarks, Woodson expounds on how Dr. King might view today’s reparations movement and its accompanying social justice demands.
The conversation between Woodson and Ma took place during “The Rise of Reparations,” a virtual forum co-hosted by Defend American Ideals, the Pacific Legal Foundation, and the Pacific Research Institute.

Will You Be Paying Reparations?
Virtual Event Via Zoom, October 11, 2023
Ying Ma will serve as a moderator for “The Rise of Reparations,” a virtual event taking place on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at 12:00 p.m. PDT/3:00 p.m. EDT.
Just a few years ago, few around the country were discussing the issue of reparations seriously. Today, reparations proposals are proliferating around the country.
Most notably, California’s reparations task force has recommended that the Golden State pay qualifying black residents up to $1.2 million annually as compensation for past discrimination. The figures are fantastical and legislation mandating payment could be unconstitutional.
Speakers for “The Rise of Reparations” will discuss the moral, social, legal, and historical aspects of reparations proposals that have surfaced in California and across the country. This event is brought to you by Defend American Ideals, the Pacific Legal Foundation, and the Pacific Research Institute.

Setting the Record Straight Re: Victory Against Racial Preferences
Ying Ma issued the following statement on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“This recent @FDRLST piece by @kennymxu gives the impression that @wu_wenyuan led the 2020 “No on Prop 16” campaign against racial preferences in CA with Kenny Xu by her side: https://thefederalist.com/2023/06/29/despite-a-scotus-victory-for-fair-admissions-the-fight-for-meritocracy-must-continue/. Kenny Xu was dismissed from the campaign after a very brief stint, and Wenyuan Wu did not lead “No on Prop 16.” Ward Connerly (@tobeequal), president of the campaign, has offered observations on her role, the campaign, and the equal rights movement he’s led for the past 30 years: https://americanidealspac.com/2022/10/01/how-the-equality-movement-defeated-racial-preferences/.
“Most did not expect the stunning, landslide defeat of Prop 16; around the country, few paid attention until after the election. Many national commentators, major donors, and foundations that applauded the outcome had no idea how the miraculous defeat occurred. This includes @realchrisrufo @VivekGRamaswamy @Heritage_Action @BradleyFdn, most @FoxNews anchors, and numerous others. The general lack of familiarity with what transpired has allowed shameless self-promotion to arise.
“A broad coalition and numerous dedicated and courageous souls have been battling racial preferences long before Kenny Xu or Wenyuan Wu came on the scene. Prop 16 would have repealed Prop 209, which passed a generation ago in 1996 and prohibited racial preferences in CA. The success of 209 sparked a political movement across the country. As a veteran of both Prop 209 and “No on Prop 16,” I’m heartened to see many new faces in the movement, especially those participating in the political process for the first time. It is crucial, however, to set the record straight. The team that made the resounding “No on Prop 16” victory possible is celebrated in this press release: https://americanidealspac.com/2022/09/30/equality-vs-equity-and-the-defeat-of-prop-16-in-california/.”

California Reparations Should Be $0.00
Fox News, May 9, 2023
California is debating whether to pay all Black residents who descend from slaves as much as $1.2 million each – to atone for the horrific injustices that their ancestors suffered. San Francisco has proposed a $5 million payment to each Black resident.
But – California was never a slave state. Nor was San Francisco ever a slave city.
California does have a sordid history of mistreating its large yellow population. For more than a century after Chinese immigrants began arriving for the Gold Rush around the 1850s, they faced open discrimination and unabashed hatred in this state.
My paternal great-grandfather lived in Northern California as a laborer around the turn of the century.
Under the logic of the current reparations proposals, descendants of early Chinese immigrants to the Golden State, like myself, should be eligible for reparations as well. That we are not even included in the discussion demonstrates the absurdity of the reparations movement. That reparations are discussed seriously at all further shows the perils of policymaking based on racial grievance and virtue signaling.

Ying Ma Talks to Tucker Carlson About Democrat Lawmaker’s Alleged Ties to China’s Intel Service
Ying Ma appeared on “Tucker Carlson Tonight” yesterday to discuss recent revelations that Rep. Judy Chu (D-Calif.) has connections to various groups considered to be front organizations for the Chinese Communist Party’s intelligence service.
She emphasized that “no one should have her loyalty to America questioned based on race, but nobody should be able to cry racism in order to circumvent legitimate scrutiny of very troubling ties to communist China, especially to the Chinese Communist Party’s front organizations here in the U.S.” Ms. Ma pointed out that Rep. Chu has a history of crying racism to thwart congressional efforts to hold China accountable.

Democrats Cry Racism to Avoid Scrutiny of Their Chinese Communist Party Ties
Twitter, February 28, 2023
Ying Ma issued the following tweets regarding recent investigative reporting that revealed disturbing ties between Rep. Judy Chu of California and various Chinese Communist Party front groups in the United States. Dominic Ng, chairman and CEO of East West Bank and the Biden administration’s appointee to represent the United States at the Asian Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), allegedly has similar, disturbing ties. In response to the allegations, Chu and Democrats in Congress have cried racism, but have not provided cogent explanations to assuage voters’ concerns.
When Biden appointee Dominic Ng & a sitting congresswoman both have affiliations with Chinese Communist front groups, it isn't crazy that @Lancegooden & other lawmakers would ask the FBI to investigate, but somehow that's racist. https://t.co/Jim0f0TYH6
— Ying Ma (@GZtoGhetto) March 1, 2023
Let's not forget that @RepJudyChu has repeatedly tried to thwart Congress from countering China's immense threat to US. At the height of Covid, she pressured a Democratic colleague to refrain from condemning Beijing's role in the pandemic. Appalling. https://t.co/GtJBwUKvuG
— Ying Ma (@GZtoGhetto) March 1, 2023
Worse yet, @RepJudyChu and other Democrats who have blamed Trump, Republicans, and white supremacists for the gruesome anti-Asian violence we've seen in the past few years are opportunists politicizing the tragedies. They're hypocrites and cowards. https://t.co/yRPoYiQW8Z
— Ying Ma (@GZtoGhetto) March 1, 2023
And where was @RepJudyChu when racist, abusive attacks like this one occur against elderly, poor Asian immigrants? Do you see any white supremacists in this video? This incident took place before "kungflu," "China virus," "Chinese virus" & "Wuhan virus." https://t.co/16Wjv9zUo2
— Ying Ma (@GZtoGhetto) March 1, 2023
And if @RepJudyChu really cares about Asian Americans as she always claims she does, why has she not opposed the grotesque racial preferences practiced by Harvard & other universities to discriminate against Asian applicants? Phony.
— Ying Ma (@GZtoGhetto) March 1, 2023
We don't know if every American affiliated with Chinese Communist front groups here in US is aware of the connection or perhaps was duped into getting involved. But we do know China aggressively targets lawmakers & Chinese Americans.
— Ying Ma (@GZtoGhetto) March 1, 2023
Pretty soon, perhaps no one will dare to ask. At least that looks likely to be the case if we continue to cower before race-mongers.

Stop Politicizing Anti-Asian Violence
Epoch Times, February 1, 2023
The opportunistic and the misguided wasted no time in fanning the flames of racial grievance after two mass shootings in California last week.
Taking place separately in Monterey Park and Half Moon Bay, both shootings resulted in the murder of multiple victims of Asian descent at the beginning of the Lunar New Year, a major holiday for Asian communities.
Soon after news of the Monterey Park shooting broke, Rep. Adam Schiff of California named anti-Asian bigotry as a possible motive. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer attributed the shooting to undefined “bigotry and hate.” Many others chimed in on social media, denouncing former President Donald Trump and white supremacy as responsible for the tragedies. None, of course, had any evidence for their assertions.
Law enforcement later announced the Monterey Park suspect to be Huu Can Tran, a 72-year-old Asian male who subsequently killed himself. Meanwhile, the suspect for Half Moon Bay, Chunli Zhao, is a 66-year-old farm worker from China.
Inconveniently for those who peddled the claim that white supremacy and anti-Asian bigotry were the cause of the shooting rampages, neither Monterey Park nor Half Moon Bay fits their political narrative.
