The die have been cast, see how they roll!
Each week I keep telling myself that I’m going to stop waiting until the last minute to write up these posts and just do little installments as things develop through the week. Each week, that doesn’t ever seem to work that way. This week it has come to even more of a head, seeing as I wasn’t able to get this post finished and scheduled ahead of time. But that is because a lot of things have gone on this week…
I had mentioned last week that I was planning on focusing on editing for this week,...

Waddaya mean I tawk funny?
This past week my focus has been on ACX. I’ve been scouting out opportunities for some paying voice work gigs. I’ve noticed some interesting things while perusing through the lists of available properties looking for a narrator. Mostnoticeableamong them: an awful lot of the work waiting for a male narrator are romance novels. I even looked at a few of them. After all, if it sells, it sells! But I quickly figured out why these romance titles hadn’t been made into audiobooks yet…
There is one th...

Another one bites the dust!
I must say, right at this moment, I feel like the Magic Spreadsheet works wonders. I started using the Magic Spreadsheet on February 1st. Now, as I’m writing this on the evening of February 12th, I’ve racked up over twelve thousand words written! And what’s more, I broke my streak last Wednesday when I had an event in the evening that kept me from stealing any keyboard time. And that’s not counting the words in this post. That’s over a thousand words a day! More than just racking up a lot of...

Balticon 46 Wrap-up – Part 6, Just Dandy: The Importance of Accessories in Steampunk
Time for the next installment of theBalticon46 wrap up. If you’ve been with us since the beginning of the Balticon 46 Wrap-up, you’ll remember the video we started out with, where I was getting ready for a panel. Well, this is that panel: Just Dandy: The Importance of Accessories in Steampunk. This was a very different panel for me, as it was a part of the Costuming panel at Balticon. How did I get on a costuming Panel? Shooting my mouth off on Twitter. Pavlina, last year’s head of the Costum...

Stepping up the pace
My how quickly things can change. Two weeks ago I talked about creating a new account with ACX and plans to make some money from narrating audiobooks later this year. Now it would seem that sooner would be better than later. We got some news at my day job this past week. It seems my work is being negatively impacted by the economy and they are going to have to make some cuts. They’re not planning on letting any people go, but in order to make the cuts they need by the end of the year, they’re...

The Wayback Machine: Galley Table Episode Thirty-Four: Pushing Boundaries
I haven’t fired up the Wayback Machine in a while, and the backlog of episodes just keeps building up. Time to do something about that. So here we have another episode from podcasting’s past. Today’s trip takes up to May 2nd, 2001, and Episode 34 of Galley Table. This episode didn’t have a guest, but was just the regular Galley Table crew talking about pushing beyond yourboundariesand how that can affect your writing.
Some special moments from the episode:
“We want to talk about working outside...

The Next Big Thing
P.C. Haring tagged me on his blog with this writing meme – The Next Big Thing. This meme shows offa little about the next Work in Process we writers are working on. It is an opportunity to give readers a little sneak peek and some inside information on the next new manuscript.
First, the Rules:
1. Mention the person who tagged you at the beginning of your post (done)
2. Answer the ten questions about your current WIP (work in progress) and/or new release on your blog (see below).
3. Tag five othe...

Resisting the lure of new projects
Some weeks are full of accomplishment, and some weeks feel like nothing gets done. This past week felt like I couldn’t get anything accomplished. That wasn’t true, of course, but that is the way it felt. Visiting friends occupieda good chunk of the weekend; something I really haven’t done in a while. And then there was the very tempting talk of adding new projects to the docket…
I’ll come back to that in a bit. The surprising news for me is that my existing projects have moved steadily forward...

Balticon 46 Wrap-up – Part 5, The Shrinking Man Project, Special Episode 3 – Walking and Talking with Nathan Lowell, and M. G. Cady, and Veronica Giguere
Hello, everyone! Today we have the next installment of the Balticon 46 wrap up. This is a Special Episode of my podcast The Shrinking Man Project, recorded Saturday morning during Balticon 46. This episode was originally a chance for me to do a cross-over with Nathan Lowell’s Talking on my Morning Walk podcast, also known as #tommw. In fact, if you listen to Nathan’s podcast, you’ve already heard this audio.
I hope this will help warm your hearts in the cold winter months, and you’ll be able t...

Hello, ACX
After being on the fence about it for many months, this past week I finally broke down and created a profile on ACX. What is ACX, you say? And well you might ask. ACX is the Audiobook Creation Exchange. Audible.comcreated ACX to promote the creation of digital spoken word content. This makes a lot of sense because digital spoken word content is what Audible sells. They need to get that content from somewhere, and ACX is part of making that happen. ACX creates a marketplace where rights holder...
