Post image for The Wayback Machine: The Shrinking Man Project: Episode 24 – Balticon Almost Live

It’s #FlashbackFriday! It is isn’t it? Yes, yes it is! And it is time for another episode from The Wayback Machine! We’re turning the clock back to June 3rd, 2011 and an episode of The Shrinking Man Project. The plan for this episode was to featurethe live recording of The Shrinking Man Project, but the recording suffered a couple of power failures, so this is a regular episode of the podcast featuring audio recorded on Monday afternoon at Balticon 45. You can hear in the audio that all of ou...

Special Cover Reveal!

Today, I have the opportunity to do a very special post in the Pimpin’ Your Friends category. The friend in question is the lovely and talented Starla Huchton. Starla is not only a friend, she’s my cover artist. She did the cover for the e-book of my short story “Welcome to Paradox” and she will be doing the cover for my steampunk novelThe Perils of Prague. She’s got a very nice business as a freelance graphic designer over at Designed by Starla, doing book covers for independent authors and...

Balticon 47 Schedule

It’s that time of year again, folks. Balticon 47 is almost upon us. And that means that it is time for me to share this year’s Balticon schedule. Now, if you remember my post from last year, you’ll remember that I had a really packed schedule last year. Well, things are looking pretty busy again [...]

The Wayback Machine: The Shrinking Man Project: Episode 23 – Countdown to Balticon

Oops! Looks like somehow I overshot#FlashbackFriday. So instead we’ve got um… uh… #MasterFeedMonday? Yeah. Something like that. So, anyway. Today the Wayback Machine takes us to May 27th, 2011, and the last episode of The Shrinking Man Project before Balticon 45. This episode was actually released right before Balticon began and includes a run-down of [...]

Of writerly things

They say that brevity is the soul of wit. Well, after last week’s post, perhaps I should try to be witty. Who knows, it might work. Last week I also promised that I would speak of more writerly things, and that is a promise that I can keep. I have kept with the habit of [...]

Balticon 46 Wrap up – Part 12, Dirty Mad Libs

The Balticon 46 Wrap up is just about done. There’s going to be just one more episode after this one. But don’t worry, because we’ve saved some of the best stuff for last. This next panel is Dirty Mad Libs, a very adult, but also a very hilarious panel. Dirty Mad Libs is part of [...]

The Wayback Machine: Galley Table 36 – Writing Rites and Rituals

Once again, it is #FlashbackFriday, and time for another journey with the Wayback Machine. Today we’ve got audio from May 15th, 2011. To wit, episode 35 of Galley Table, featuring guestsJR MurdockandMichell Plested. You see, writers are a superstitious and cowardly lot, and they construct various rituals and superstitions to fend off bad writing mojo, or to get themselves into the mood for writing. In this episode, we ask the panel what their rituals are, and how they feel these traditions ha...

Embracing your Writing Chains

Things have been slowly returning to normal, or at least what passes for it around here. My wife has done much better with her recovery, and that has given me time to get back into my writing. So, at the end of March, I returned to the Magic Spreadsheet and began a new writing chain. This has led to some interesting developments.

My previous writing chain on the Magic Spreadsheet started at the beginning of February and lasted about two weeks. In the process, it produced over 15,000 words of w...

The Wayback Machine: The Shrinking Man Project: Episode 21 – The Good, The Bad, and The Exhausted

Post image for The Wayback Machine: The Shrinking Man Project: Episode 21 – The Good, The Bad, and The Exhausted

This #FlashbackFriday, the Wayback Machine takes us to May 11th, 2011 and another installment of The Shrinking Man Project. In this episode I am getting back to my diet and exercise program after having a blood clot removed in April. And dealing with the pre-Balticon excitement.

The promo for this episode was J. Daniel Sawyer’s Free Will and Other Compulsions. The podcast was in progress two years ago, but soon fizzled while Dan focused on finishing writing the book. Now, the podcast is back i...

RavenCon 2013

Post image for RavenCon 2013

Well, it has been a long and tiring week. A big part of the week was a trip to Richmond, Va for RavenCon. This was our first time going to RavenCon, so we weren’t quite sure what to expect. Considering my previous sci-fi convention experience was Balticon, I found RavenCon to be considerably smaller. This did have some advantages, and a few disadvantages.

This was our first overnight trip since my wife had her knee replacement, too. So there was some concern over how we would manage everything...
