Comment on A Writer’s Life – Part One by Reno Anderson

Ian, I downloaded the two free chapters of Chasing Francis and fell in love with your writing style (I’m happily married so I am not one of those kind of fans, just a fellow writer). You had me crying and laughing on the same page. I did also just order both your books from Amazon. A fellow blogger told me about the CIA book which is how I heard about your writing. I am finding this whole millions of people writing millions of blogs intimidating, and think I need a theme to reach out to more people for my blog. Now that you are newly famous, can you tell me if your writing is just the end process of your life’s work so far? I am such a renaissance woman, and have not focused on any one area of my life to specialize in, but I do live with passion – for shining light in darkness. I guess I need to wait and read the whole book?? Thanks for touching my heart.

Comment on Thoughts on Spiritual Practices by Rob

I enjoyed the illustration of the finger/moon, the key being to see, savor and worship Christ. Thank you. There is also much to behold in His creation that spurs our worship of Him, which you pointed out as well. I feel we all too often forget the creativity and diversity displayed by our God as a Creator.

I have a few thoughts below and some questions that I really mean to ask. This isn’t just a troll rant :) .

I wonder perhaps if you see a danger to your approach, especially in terms of eastern forms of meditation and creative spiritual practices.

Meditation, biblically, and spiritual practices were based on the Scriptures as they reveal Him (Joshua 1:8, Psalm 19, Psalm 119).

How do you protect yourself from redefining Jesus in these practices?

If we try to ‘experience Jesus’ however we feel draws us closer to Him, how can we be sure we’re actually getting closer to Him and not just our profound experience?

We may find ourselves in idolotry. For example, it’s doubtful that the Canaanites worshipped Baal because they didn’t enjoy it. Surely they did.

I do know that experience is necessary but can it stand on its own? How do you interpret your experiences, beyond what just feels good?

The danger I see is that experience can be subjective. Whereas the experience of joy in our study of the Bible is centered around truth, or at least should be.

Which finally brings me to my big question, do you believe that the Bible is inerrant and sufficient to get our truths about God? Or can experience or church tradition step infront of the Bible at any time?

Thank you!

Comment on Are You One of the Exiles? by Cheryl

I am a 54 year old woman, who left the ‘organized’ church over 30 years ago in Florida. Two home churches and one state later; with the raising of four wonderful children thrown in the mix, I am still in the new diaspora. I have been fortunate and blessed to be a part of another free radical church family, where I am now, that welcomes the LGBT community with open arms, atheists, the tattooed and pierced and especially the ‘disillusioned from birth’ Christian. And I agree, God is doing something wonderful and has been doing something wonderful, for a very long time now. BTW, we call ourselves The Exiles. I was very encouraged to read this blog. Thank you!!

Comment on Is Jesus Just Background Music in Your Life? by Peggy Harris

I just discovered this site. It’s just what I’ve been seeking. I am a Christian “mystic” whose desire is to KNOW Christ on a deeper level. I love reading about the experiences of other seekers!

Comment on Are You a Christian Mystic? by Diane

After meditating today, I received the message to read about Christian mysticism. I never dared to think that I was a mystic before. Perhaps that is what I am, and why I don’t fit in, pretty much anywhere. Once I begin to speak about God and my deep love of Christ, the personal encounters with the Lord I have had since childhood, I am fairly alone in the conversation. Nevertheless, God continues to call, to pull, beckoning to come closer and closer. Now approaching 60, it no longer matters that few have the same experiences/encounters. I am at peace. Thank you for letting me share. I would love to be in contact with those who have posted.
