The subtle touch of fingers so familiar to his skin he could confuse it for his own grazed the slick skin of his shoulder until it slid down his back as smoothly as the droplets of water raining down on him.

“You okay?” she asked softly into his ear. “I was afraid today was too much for you. You’ve only been back home a handful of days.”


He nodded his head, eyes still closed to the streaming water saturating the thick strands of his hair.


He felt her hand crawl back up the length of his back, the movement making the muscles that rested just beneath her digits twitch in anticipation. Heart was right, he had returned from the hospital several days before, but in that time the two of them had barely spent any alone time together.


They’d both been physically present, and usually that was all it took to stoke the embers that always seemed to be on a low simmer just waiting for an excuse to fan the flames to full blaze. But since his release there had been something there, something that was keeping them from being them.


Kenneth turned his head slightly toward the sound of her voice. He opened his eyes just enough to see the water-sprinkled vision of her standing to the side of him. He pulled her into his embrace and pinned her back against the wall between his outstretched arms.


There was nothing like the sight of his wife naked and waiting for him. No matter how difficult things were between them they’d always had this. It baffled him that he’d allowed whatever this was between them to fester to the point where he hadn’t touched his wife in days.


The knowledge that she’d kept something so important from him F*#ked with his head in a way he hadn’t anticipated. Truth was he really hadn’t even given serious thought as to why her omission of the facts about Bryan and Justice impacted him so much.


But to deny himself this, this connection, this reassurance that his world was grounded, that they were whole, what the f*#k was he thinking?


He positioned her directly under the spray of water and watched the fullness of her hair flatten against her scalp and back. She would bitch at him later about having to go to the hairdresser, but the thought of that conversation alone was pulling up the corners of his mouth into a wicked smile.


He allowed his fingers to rest at the base of her head, fingers caressing her nape in just the right way to make her fall into his touch. His heart tightened slightly. They’d been stressed and their connection strained, but underneath all the bullshit, it was still there and he was grateful for it.


Their connection is what kept his soul intact, what kept him sane enough to deal with the rest of his life when dealing with the craziness that wealth brought.


“We have a lot to discuss, Heart.”


“Kenneth I—”


He leaned down and pressed a hard kiss to stop whatever it was she was about to say. Words weren’t what they needed now. He giggled to himself. If their shrink could hear his thoughts she’d be jumping up and down screaming her opposition to his line of thinking.


Kenneth wasn’t against therapy. It had definitely worked to get the two of them back on track, and he definitely wanted them to sign up for a session or two after this latest fiasco, but this wasn’t something that needed fixing. This was the one way that their communication was perfect and they were absolutely in sync.


He plunged his tongue inside the warmth of her mouth and savored the sweet hint of apple juice that danced on his taste buds.


He pulled back just a moment to give them each a chance to breathe.


“I’m not avoiding the conversation we need to have, and as soon as we’re finished in here we’re going to throw on some clothes and go downstairs in the kitchen and hash this sh*t out over a cup of coffee. But right now, I just need to feel my wife.”

Peyton lifted her hand and intertwined his fingers with hers. "If you want to back out, just say the word. I have no way to prove I'm not some crazy psycho pervert. I could call one of my buds, but he'd be so drunk by now he'd agree to whatever I asked." He placed a finger under her chin and lifted her face. "Promise me one thing. If at any second you want to back out, say so. I won't be angry. I will be disappointed, but not angry. I'll call a cab and send you home. Promise?"She nodded, fighting back tears. She wasn't sure why she wanted to cry: happiness, nerves, or sadness that this great guy was going to be a one night stand.When the cab stopped, Big Tipper handed the driver some bills, thanked him, and held the door open for her. Just outside the hotel's front entrance, he touched her elbow and stopped. "You know, before we do this, we really should be introduced. She hooked her thumbs into her waist band, kicked off her shoes and wiggled her pants off.

5 Star ***** I had never read any of Daryl Devore's books and man, am I glad I read this one! Peyton is the guy we all want and Fuchsia is a girl who is not giving up on her dreams. When the two collide, everything is turned upside down and the result is hot, but also laugh out loud funny. I will definitely have to read more of Devore's books!

5 Star ***** This is the first book I have had the privilege of reading by Daryl Devote (Devore). I'm hooked!! Peyton and Fuchsia's story was full of heat and love. Their playful banter had me laughing out loud. I would definitely recommend this book to my family and friends.

Rolling up the cuffs of his jeans, Guy pulled off his shirt and dropped it next to him.  A wave kissed his feet. "Tide's coming in. Time to move." He grabbed his backpack and empty beer can then moved higher on the beach. He checked the line in the sand where the last tide washed ashore seaweed and driftwood bits then walked about fifteen feet beyond to where the trees and shrubs grew. He squatted on his haunches. "As I see it, there are two options here. I go bat-shit crazy and pull my hair out over a hopeless situation. Or, number two, get down to business and figure shit out. Number two it is." Emptying the contents of his pack, he checked his supplies; one chocolate bar, one empty beer can, a soggy sports magazine, pack of chewing gum, passport, plane ticket, and a cellphone charger cord. He snorted then glanced at the closest palm tree. "Unless that thing is somehow wired, this is gonna be friggin' useless. Ah." He pulled out his sunglasses and slipped them on. Patting his back pockets, he pulled a drenched wallet out of one and his boarding pass out of the other. Turning his backpack over, he unzipped a sealed zipper, reached in and pull out his cellphone. "Come on baby. Work." He brushed the screen. It flickered then booted up."Yes! No." It registered no signal. "Damn." He surveyed the island; beach, trees, bushes and a hill in the distance. "Maybe up there I can catch a signal. And call who? 911? Hello, I'm stranded on an island. No, I don't know which one. Send pizza." He shook his head. "Really gotta stop talking to myself."He hid his supplies behind a bush and under two palm fronds, put his empty beer can in his pack and hoisted it over his shoulder. I’ve been creating stories from the moment I could string two words together. No matter the tale, it always has romance woven through them. Yes, I'm a hopeless romantic.When I’m not writing or plotting new books, I like to read, travel, paint, or troll flea markets where I usually buy things I might never actually use because they're so pretty—who can resist those displays.I come from the beautiful country of South Africa, and currently live in the Middle East.After working in a few jobs (all art related), a chosen career as a fashion designer, then an art teacher, I finally found my passion nearly five years ago: writing. There really is no other job I’d rather do.

And now for a few questions and answers.
1:Give us one fact about yourself.       I like solitude. It could be the fact I tend to miss conversation because my mind drifts and centers on my WIP, my characters :-)
2:Is that what inspired you to start writing?What? Living the life of a hermit? J No. I love reading, and wanted to give my five cents worth on how to fail spectacularly by not finishing a manuscript. I'm kidding. Angels. I always wanted to write a story about them, my way.
3: Do you apply your life experience to your books?Ah… I think not, but it does creep in anyway :-)
4: Will you ever branch out into different genre?Yes. I see NA ideas waving at me, who knows what the future holds :-)
5: What inspired you to write Echo, Mine?It was more a spur of the moment decision. I wondered what came after Absolute Surrender ended, after the happily ever after. So one night I just wrote for myself at first. In one night I wrote the draft and was so excited at what was revealed, I expanded it into a novella :-)

While that may have been true once, Aethan no longer made love to her on the spur of the moment, except in bed. She appreciated his care and consideration, but dammit, she was tired of the gentleness. She wanted the man who had a voracious, no-holds-barred appetite when it came to sex—she wanted the downpour—the thunderstorm. She wanted all that back.Her gaze lingered on the untouched strawberries…she wasn’t hungry, but she’d use whatever weapons she had. Before tonight was over, Aethan would have no idea what hit him. Ugh, Aethan, you didn't?” She gave him a disgusted look. “Did you warn them off?”A faint smile touched his mouth. “No. I haven’t. But they won't.”Dammit, they were all alike.
