What's up next for Darien as he tries to settle into a new life? WIP it Up Wednesday #wipitup

I'm thinking this will probably be the last post from What Happens in Bangkok for a bit - until it's closer to it's release day. I started posting it here Nov 4. I had part of the book written then, but it had no title. I decided to post it here to kick myself in the butt and finish it. Well, since Nov 4th, I have finished it and written the other 2 in the series which I didn't even know was a series when I started. So - thank you for inspiring me (other wise known as kick in butt) to get this one done and for all your great comments.

'Not quite sure where I'll go next - I have another book sitting on my hard drive that's part written - maybe I check it out or scroll way back in my blog posts and see where I ended off on another book.

Scene set - Darien is hiding out in a drag queen club. His stage name is now Apollo. Several of the queens are there and are teaching him one of the routines. Erika - his hot boss - is chatting with someone Darien finds instinctively creepy. (Madonna is Darien's brother's drag queen personality.)

Darien scooted through the wings and out the stage manager's door, leading him to the audience. He wandered through the tables with upturned chairs resting on them, never once looking in Erika's direction, and then positioned himself a few feet to the left of where she and the stranger were speaking. He hooked his thumbs in his pockets and glanced up at the stage.Sandee released a short whistle and tossed his chest out and placed his wrists on his hips. Darien glanced around the club. The huge discos balls, hanging from the ceiling were dark. Around the audience area were tables and off to the sides, big booths for patrons to sit at. The walls were covered with some bizarre animal print. Cheetah or something. Darien shrugged. He tried to hear the conversation between the man and Erika, but he was just out of range. He moved a few paces to the right.Sandee released a sharper whistle."Sandee." Irritation filled Brian's voice. "Why are you doing that?"With a drag queen dramatic sigh of frustration, Sandee, again, threw out his chest and flung the back of his wrists against his waist.Oh, shit. He's signaling me. More drag queen. Darien transferred his weight onto one hip, rested a hand on his waist and tilted his head as if intently watching what was happening on stage; while keeping his focus toward Erika."Why would he be here?" She sounded angry. The other's tone was condescendingly smooth. "Why wouldn't he? Your Madonna has boasted quite often that they are brothers."Shit. He's talking about me. And he knows Brian's my brother. Fuck. Darien's fight or flight instinct tried to kick in. Don't move. Freeze. Be cool. You survived yesterday. You can get out of this. He shifted his position so he could watch what happened out of the corner of his eye."I have no idea if that's true, but he's not here. Don't you think I'd notice if Darien Scott were in my club? Where's he gonna hide?" She flung her hands around then pointed at the stage. "Madonna - Brian's right there. Surely he'd be with his brother if he was in trouble. But no, he's here with the others, working the new guy into the show."After a moment's silence, she continued, "My kitchen staff’ll be here in twenty minutes, but I doubt he's going to try and hide as a chef. Or a pot scrubber. Now." She paused as a chair scraped across the floor. "I need to get back to my job.""Who's the new one?" The sleazy tone of the man's voice nudged Darien's urge to throw up."Apollo."Darien counted to ten then took a step forward and called, "Brian, honey—"A cold hand touched his arm. He turned. The man who'd spoken with Erika stood next to him. A sneer posing as a smile pasted on his mouth. Darien smiled back, while noting the kitchen door swinging shut and Erika was no longer in the room. The stranger ran a fingertip up Darien's bare arm until it reached the top of his muscle shirt. "I like blonds. Always have. I can offer you double whatever she's paying you."Oh fuck. Darien cast his glaze up and down the man, checking out the expensive shoes and suit and the swelling in his pants. "Ain't signed a contract yet. Still a free agent. Keep talking."The man lifted his hand and ran his fingers through Darien's shaggy blond hair. Darien swallowed down the repulsion he felt. It wasn't just because it was a man coming on to him, but the underlying evil oozing from this person.Be cold as steel. Maybe he'll spontaneously combust and disappear. He yanked Darien's head back. Darien clenched his fist and started to swing then caught his movement. He couldn't be Darien. He had to be Apollo and allow this man to do what he wanted.

Arson and fire bring them together - Melissa Keir's latest - Protecting her Pigg #hotromance #pre-order

Looking for Some Hot Fun??
Try some Fire Play…

Two years ago, I was fortunate enough to spend a weekend at an authors and readers conference with Dr. Charley Ferrer. She’s a leader in the women’s sexual empowerment movement and BDSM community. During her presentation, she discussed a popular BDSM play activity called Fire Play. This activity is done with wands and rubbing alcohol. The wand is dipped in rubbing alcohol and run across the skin quickly with a second burning wand, causing the fire to follow the band of alcohol.
Like all BDSM play, it requires two consenting partners, one of whom is well versed in this type of Fire Play. After all, fire is dangerous.

I know it sounds scary. Many people would consider BDSM to be outside their comfort zone, so adding fire to their skin would send them screaming. But not me…

I let her use my body to create her masterpiece of flames. Then she taught me how to use the wands. It was the first time I was warm in my life. :-) After arriving home, I bought my own set to train with. Each time I run the wand over my stomach and see the flames flowing, following the line of alcohol, I get such a high.
When I got a chance to incorporate an arsonist into a story, I knew that euphoria they’d feel watching the flames dancing. Maybe I’m a closet arsonist, because I can’t stand the idea of something burning down. Too much OCD and whew… the clean-up. But there is something magical about fire!

Check out my story, Protecting Her Pigg in the Summer Heat box set. Now available for preorder at all retailers for only 99 pennies.

Scene set-  Arianne has lost her job and broken up with her boyfriend. She needs a job.  I edited out some - the coffee mug is her wine glass

Picking up the remote with one hand and the coffee mug with the other, she alternated between surfing channels and sipping wine. Blankly staring at the screen she finished the bottle of red wine, consumed her precooked, fast-frozen meal in a container and had changed to white wine, without noticing the difference. Tossing the empty dish onto the coffee table, the fork bounced off and landed on the newspaper. She bent down to pick it up. An ad caught her eye - Woman wanted. Apply to e-box twenty four. "What the hell?" She picked her laptop up off the coffee table, typed in the website then clicked on e-box twenty four.

What did Guy tell Paix? From Braced For Impact on My Sexy Saturday #MySexySaturday #Saturday7 #MSS134

Welcome to the 134th week of My Sexy Saturday.
This week’s theme: Some Sexy Action
From Braced For Impact - which is only available until June -

"Can't." He puffed trying to keep in control. "No protection.""Please, Guy. Harder. On edge. Don't care. Please." She squeezed and squirmed against him. His restraint broke. He drove his hips upward, slamming into her. The cabin walls trembled with each thrust. "Come on, Paix. Let it all go. Now. Ah!"Pressure built then released with a powerful shockwave, which tore through him. The building groaned and shook. His knees threatened to buckle. Wrapping an arm around her waist, he lifted her then slipped out. Cautiously moving around the unfamiliar and dark cabin, he made his way to the small bed he'd noticed during one of the flashes of lightning. He lowered her onto it then snuggled against her.She slipped her hand back and cupped his balls. He closed his eyes and shuddered. "I need to rest." She slid a finger back and forth. His gut clenched. "Message received, but I'm beat out.""Just letting you know that was only the first course." She giggled. "And I know it's a cliché, but I think the earth really did move. I think we had an earthquake.""You do know we're making love on the side of a volcano."

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow I love this box setI've read books by two of these authors and loved them so I had to get this set. It didn't disappoint. I got this book mostly for Brenda's and D'Ann's books but the rest of the novellas were pleasantly surprising will get books by the other authors
Brenda Dyers Love Comes Crashing In I loved the way the characters were best friends and end up together sometimes your best friend is the one you belong with.
D'ann Lindun's Falling Hard I love Cowboys enough said but Gage and Teagan were a great opposites attract storyline
Daryl Devore's book was fantastic also it was probably one of my favorites of the set. I was crying at the end thinking the worst but it turned out great.

From Braced for Impact - Every other breath was more seawater than air #FridaySnippets #romance #boxset

This months snippets are from the fabulous box set- Crashing into Love and my story- Braced for Impact.

Guy pulled against the water with all of his might. I am not going to die in this god damn ocean. A wave threw him forward. His head broke the surface. He spat, coughed and gulped a lungful of much needed air. The shore was right there. But the ocean was playing perverted games of Keep Away and wouldn't let him get close enough to grab onto something and pull himself out.He had to get to land. To survive. To get to Paix, protect her and get the information to his superiors.A waved rolled over him. The pressure built in his head as a wave slammed him deep into the water. He struggled against the force. Dark spots formed before his eyes. His hand broke the surface. He kicked hard, cleared the water and floated on the top. His chest heaved as he gasped for air. A few more of those and I'm done for. I need to get to shore.A small wave lifted and pushed him forward. He glanced up, trying to identify where he was on the island. Nothing looked familiar. The long stretch of sandy beach with palm trees had been replaced by black rock. Another gentle wave edged him closer to the rocks. He flipped upright and tread water trying to find a landing place. The rock looked slick. He didn't want to get smashed against it and if he successfully climbed out, he didn't want to slip back into the ocean. But there didn't appear to be anyplace to grab.Frustration tried to overwhelm him. He fought back. He had to stay calm and think clearly in order to survive this.Several more small waves nudged him closer to the wall of rock. Rain relentlessly pelted against him. Thunder and lightning filled the sky. But for the moment, the ocean had calmed. This was it. His only chance. He inhaled a deep breath, gritted his teeth and threw his arms forward, swimming for the closest rock. He felt his body rise as the wave crested under him.It knocked him against the rock. He clambered about grasping for a hand hold before the wave pulled him away. Nothing. His heart pounded in his ears. His breathing labored. Every other breath was more seawater than air.

My weekly writing rant is aimed at 99 cents #author #fairwage

People quite often surprise and more and more, it is not in the good way.

A person does some sort of work and expects to get paid. But somehow authors are just supposed to spit out fabulous book after fabulous book for free.

To try and make some money - they band together and sell box sets. Seven - 10 - 50 - authors with great stories in one box set - for the amazing price of 99 cents. That's just stupid.

And yes, I am guilty of this except I didn't know the box set was only going to sell for 99 cents.

Look at it this way - the box set sells 100 copies. 99 cents x 100 = $99.
Divide that by the 10 authors - $9.90 in profits per author.
or worse - the 50 authors - $1.98

I can hear you - what if they sell 500 copies?
For the 10 authors - the answer comes out to $49.50 or - funny enough - $9.90 for the 50 authors

Now I know the idea is - giveaway cheap books and the readers will be so amazed with your writing they'll go buy your other books.

One word response - bullshit!

The readers just expect more cheap books.

We spend hours writing these books and to make a whopping $9.90 or even the $49.50 is beyond ludicrous.

If you put in a 40 hr work week and were rewarded with $49.50 - there'd be hell to pay, right!? You'd be screaming bloody murder all over the place- whining and wailing how underpaid you are.

So why can't an author make a decent wage?

And weirdly enough, I'm not complaining so much about me- but my author friends. They are hurting badly. One is desperately seeking some other source of employment because her writing can't support her. She's a NY Times best seller. Another is quitting after the next book and walking away - and she's an incredible award-winning author.

When - as a society - did we get so greedy? Give me - give me - give me.

Oh - and don't get me started on Amazon! Talk about not paying authors!

What's your take on the authors work for free situation?

What piece of good news does Darien learn? From work in progress - What Happens in Bangkok on WIP it UP Wednesday #wipitup

This is my second last excerpt from What Happens in Bangkok. It's at the publishers. I may pop back to it when it's released. No idea what I'm going to do here next.

Scene set - Darien has just been hired as a drag queen. His stage name is Apollo. He's attracted to Erika the boss. Where we ended - someone just walked up behind her.

Darien rubbed his thumb against his palm. The flesh burned where Erika's hand had pressed against his. Her soft pink lips, not painted with lipstick, screamed at him to kiss her. A trace of some flower's fragrance tickled his nose and burned into his memory. Her eyes captivated him. They were the unusual color of fog with hints of blue. They weren't electric, but had a serene glow about them. He fought the urge, threatening to swell. He couldn't blow his cover. If he wanted to live, he had to become Apollo. It was the same as performing: Darien, the rock star versus Darien, the guy who liked to sleep in on Saturdays and play baseball. Now he just had to add Apollo, the makeup wearing, sequin-covered, high-heeled drag queen. How hard could that be?Had to be a hell of a lot easier than dying. He rubbed the back of his neck. Grammy award winning rock star to anonymous drag queen. Who'd have guessed life would have shifted in that direction. While watching Brian organize the others on stage, he edged closer to Sandee and nudged his shoulder. "What's the boss lady's story?""She runs the place and has a heart that's way too big. She loves us like sisters.""Married?"Sandee shook his head. "Nope."Darien stifled a smile. "Ugly story?""Yup.""You'll catch me up."Sandee nodded.Brian scratched his chin. "If we move Ra-chell back then Apollo can slide in her spot."Sandee chuckled. "Watch your back, Apollo. Ra-chell is Queen Bitch and that's on a good day.""Who's gonna tell her?" Stewart held his hands up in a so-not-me gesture.Darien ignored their banter as he cast his focus back to where Erika was seated. A tall, black-haired, well-dressed Asian male loomed over her. Her body language screamed uncomfortable."Uh…Brian." Darien turned. "I'm just not understanding what you want me to do. I'm gonna go in the audience and you all walk through the routine so I can get a visual. Sorry. Probably just jet-lagged."As he stepped through the wings, his brother grabbed his elbow. "What're you up too?""Nothing. Just want some space to see what's up?""Darien?" Brian frowned."Apollo. Name's Apollo."

Before she could make another foolish mistake, Aeley rushed from the room. The night was nothing like she had planned and not what she needed.

"Ae!"

Aeley did not stop. The sound of heavy boots pounded the stone floor behind her.

The steps slowed as Mayr caught up. "Seriously, that's it?" he asked. "That's how you thought you'd get out of that?"

"I have something to do."

Mayr snorted. "Right, just as much as I believe it, I'm sure." He poked her hand. "Just as much as I know this thing isn't nothing. You went almost white when you read it. What's it say?"

"It says you need to mind your own."

"Aren't you just the joy of the Four Goddesses?"

"Mayr—"

"No. Unless you're going to tell me what this is, you don't get to use my first name. It's Head Guard if you're going to just lie to me."

Aeley stopped in the middle of the corridor and sighed.

"I'm not giving this up so you can stop with the sighing and the huffing, and don't even begin stamping your foot." Wrapping one hand around her elbow, Mayr's tender grip helped keep her steady. "I've known you since we were kids. Don't make me steal that thing. I know something's wrong and you're being stubborn. Again."

She considered her options. It was better if no one else knew what was happening. To have received the summons in front of her guests was humiliating enough. She did not have to share the details.

But Mayr was not a guest. He already knew the truth of what had happened in Oly Valley. He had been there by her side, making sure she returned home alive. What harm could there be in telling him the fight was not yet over?

I owe him that much. And he didn't say a word in front of anyone. He could've, but he didn't. He deserves to know. "Come on." Aeley pulled him through the halls to her study and pushed him into the room before slamming the door. On the way to her desk, she tossed the scroll at him.

"What? You're going to make me read it?"

"Always something," Aeley grumbled and spun around. "They want me to go there, to Council, to watch him receive his ultimate judgment. They'd said I wouldn't."

Mayr leaned against the wall. "No, they said you possibly wouldn't. You slipped in that extra—"

"Mayr!"

He threw up his hands. "Fine. If it bothers you that much, don't go."

"I can't," Aeley said resignedly. "The Councilmen are expecting me to be there to help them put Allon away permanently. He's a danger to everyone. His men caused so much damage. I hear some of the children they captured are still terrified. That isn't how I want things to be. We can't disappoint them and let him off easily."

"So then go."

"I don't want to."

"Ae, choose one." His tone softened as he approached her. "I'll back you on any decision, but you're going to have to choose one. Either you're the perfect Tract Steward or you hide. Of course, if you hide, Allon wins, and then what good is your superiority?"

Part of her wanted to throw the decanter at his head. Just when she thought he was being sweet, he hit her with the blunt truth.

"Don't say it. You hate me."

"You have no idea," Aeley muttered.
