One Day Excerpt and Giveaway: With Everything I Am by Kristen Ashley

With Everything I Am

We’ve reviewed several Kristen Ashley books here at Dear Author and have even posted a guest piece by Carina Press Executive Editor, Angela James. Why? Because Kati, Angela, and I have all experienced the thrall that is Kristen Ashley’s writing. Ms. Ashley is now contracted to Hachette and will be re-releasing the Dream Man series and Colorado series along with two spin off books in a new series called Chaos. The re-release begins in December.

Even though I find KA’s storytelling mesmerizing,...

Wednesday News: OMG’s first use may be traced back to 1917; HarperCollins & S&S are in talks to merge; New Romance author justifies writing romances

Screenshot of OMG

First Known Use of OMG? – From Jodi Ettenberg comes documentary proof of a 1917 use of OMG. By the way, we are all saying it wrong. I had been putting the emphasis after every word instead of after the My God. For the sight impaired, it reads as follows: Twitter

Lord Fisher to the Right Hon. Winston Churchill

My Dear Winston,

I am here for a few days longer before rejoining my “Wise men” at Victory House–

“The World forgetting,

By the World forgot!”

but some Headlines in the newspapers have utterly...

REVIEW: Miss Buncle Married by D.E. Stevenson

Dear Readers,

“Miss Buncle Married” takes up nine months after the close of “Miss Buncle’s Book” with Barbara Buncle now happily married to her publisher Arthur Abbott. They live fairly blissfully in Arthur’s house near London with the only blot on their happiness being the tiresome round of social obligations both finally admit to each other they find boring. Barbara also dislikes the odd married couple who have done for Arthur all these years but who despise her. Arthur’s solution – that the...

REVIEW: Getting Hotter by Elle Kennedy

Dear Ms. Kennedy:

I’ve really enjoyed this series you have written for Samhain and my biggest regret were that they were novellas and not full length stories. Getting Hotter is the first full length novel and while I enjoyed it, so much of the text was given to building up the secondary romance that I wondered if I was just getting to novellas in one story.

Tuesday News: Get an action figure of yourself; Gaming should focus on women; Penguin somewhat expands its digital library lending reach

Why the gaming industry needs to pay attention to girls – Pando Daily article cites statistics that suggest the gaming industry’s hardcore focus on the male population is to their detriment:

“Women control more than 80 percent of spending. 60 percent of online gamers are women. 94 percent of girls under 18 report playing video games regularly. Those last two facts alone should influence developers into creating games with the female gamer in mind. Yet in the online and console worlds there is...

The NeverEnding Series

I don’t remember the last time I read a stand alone Romance – one not populated with friends, brothers, sisters, cousins, colleagues, and random townspeople just waiting for their own story. In fact, I hadn’t even realized this until I read a recent interview with Julie Anne Long, in which she commented on the ETA of Lyon and Olivia’s book in her Pennyroyal Green series:

So this theme, and Olivia and Lyon’s story winds through the series – and to tell their story would be to essentially end th...

“What do you think of my fiction book writing?” the aspiring novelist extorted.

“Darn,” the editor hectored, in turn. “I can not publish your novel! It is full of what we in the business call ‘really awful writing.’”

REVIEW: Forbidden Desires by Jodie Griffin

Dear Jodie Griffin:

I was all over this book based on the blurb because there are so few femdom stories in romance. Bella Massey wants a guy who will submit to her in the bedroom and while gorgeous firefighter Marcus Aiello seems like an unlikely candidate, a little bedroom play indicates that he might be open to what she desires.

[image error]My expectations of reading a femdom story were not met, however because Marcus was really a switch and not a submissive. Both characters struggled with their “unnatur...
