Open Thread for Authors (Author Promo) for December 2012

Author Open ThreadWelcome to the Promotional Thread for Authors. What’s this you say? I read quite a few blogs outside the romance blogosphere and many of the big ones have a daily open thread where the commenters drive the bus.

The rules for Author Promo Night Open Thread are as follows:

The book has to be released in that month (i.e., anything released during the last week of February would be a March release)

You can post for yourself or you can have a friend post for you if the idea of posting about your book...

The Mighty Storm by Samantha Towle. $ .99 / 2.99

It’s been twelve years since Tru Bennett last saw Jake Wethers, her former best friend and boy she once loved.

Jake Wethers, sexy, tattooed and deliciously bad lead singer, and brains behind The Mighty Storm, one of biggest bands in the world, left Tru with a broken heart when he moved from England to America with his family when they were both fourteen.

Sent to interview Jake for her music column by the magazine she works for...

REVIEW: Kindle Fire HD 8.9″

Contents

Kindle Fire HD comes with the device and USB 2.0 cord. No power adapter is provided. Amazon gets a big fat raspberry for that.

Initial impression

My first thought when I lifted it out of the box was that it was heavy. According to the Amazon site, the Kindle Fire HD with the 8.9″ screen weighs 20 oz. According to Apple, the iPad 4 weighs 23.04 ounces. I’m getting use to the lighter weight of the mini iPad. Out of the box the device must connect to WIFI and update its software. When the...

Daily Deals: A variety of deals for under $1.99

Do you have any money left after today? These deals require only a few dollars. In addition to the book deals, Audible is offering a great sale called “Treat Yourself” and there are over 100 audiob books at $4.95. I don’t believe you need a membership for these prices.

Also, don’t forget these freebies from Amazon. To get you hooked on Whispersync for Voice, Amazon is offering a few free classics in Kindle and Audio.

REVIEW: Sean Griswold’s Head by Lindsey Leavitt

Sean Griswold's Head Lindsay Levitt

Dear Ms. Leavitt:

I bought this when it was the Kindle Daily Deal and for $1.99 it was a worthwhile read. Payton Gritas is a by the books, orderly sort of girl who saves her money to buy the nicest day planner ever and is excited to use different color highlighters to differentiate her tasks. Her world is thrown off kilter by the announcement that her father has MS.

Payton responds by plungingheadlong into rebellion. Of course her rebellion is fear driven but she acts out in incredibly selfish...

Sarah Carmichael had been in Hartford, Nebraska since noon. She’d been ready to leave since 12:15.

REVIEW: Seducing Mr. Knightly by Maya Rodale

Dear Ms. Rodale:

I have not read the previous three books in this series but the recent sale by HarperCollins piqued my interest. I had a review copy in my files and decided to give it a chance. The premise behind the series is that newspaper owner Derek Knightly hired four women and dubbed them the Writing Girls. Annabelle Swift is the advice columnist who lives in the garret of her older brother’s house and suffers heaps of abuse by her sister in law. She is, in some aspects, a cinder girl....
