Review: Blue on Blue (Bitter Legacy #3) by Dal MacLean
After three years working as a private investigator, newly reinstated Detective Inspector Will Foster still holds himself responsible for the death of an officer under his command. But he’s returned to the Met bent on redeeming himself and that means bringing down gangland boss Joey Clarkson.
Will’s prepared to put in long hours and make sacrifices for his work, even if it comes at a cost to his nascent romance with international model, Tom Gray. After all, Tom has a history of wandering but cr...

REVIEW: The Codebreakers of Bletchley Park by Dermot Turing
At Bletchley Park, some of Britain’s most talented mathematicians, linguists, and intellectuals were assembled to break Nazi codes. Kept secret for nearly thirty years, we have now come to realise the crucial role that these codebreakers played in the Allied victory in World War II.
Written by Dermot Turing – the nephew of famous codebreaker Alan Turing – this illustrated account provides unique insight into the behind-the-scenes action at Bletchley Park. Discover how brilliant and eccentric ...
REVIEW: No Bridges Blown : With the OSS Jedburghs in Nazi-Occupied France by William B. Dreux
A rediscovered classic of military history back in print for the 75th anniversary of World War II
When William B. Dreux parachuted into France in 1944, the OSS infantry officer had cinematic visions of blood-and-guts heroics, of leading the French Maquis resistance forces in daring missions to blow up key bridges and delay the German advance.
This isn’t the glamorized screen-ready account he expected; this is the real story. Dreux’s three-man OSS team landed behind enemy lines in France, in un...

REVIEW x 2: Beach Read by Emily Henry
Dear Emily Henry,
Your debut contemporary romance had what sounded like a fun concept and a great title, so I requested an ARC from the publisher.
January Andrews is a newly down-on-her-luck romance novelist. January’s boyfriend, Jacques, has recently dumped her, so she doesn’t have anywhere she can afford to live except for the North Bears Shore, Michigan beach house that her late father left her. The house was a love nest for her father and his mistress, Sonya, the woman with whom he cheated...

REVIEW: My Sweet Folly by Laura Kinsale
For those keeping track, this is number eight in my Laura Kinsale rereadapalooza, which started back in 2016 with The Prince of Midnight. My Sweet Folly is Kinsale’s tenth book, and has the distinction of being the first Kinsale book that I read when it was published, in 1997. Previously, I had discovered Kinsale late enough that I had her first nine books before me, to read at my leisure. Eventually I read them all and experienced the painful wait for a New Kinsale Book.
I’ve always wondered i...

REVIEW: Chaos Reigning by Jessie Mihalik
Dear Jessie Mihalik,
I loved Polaris Rising and Aurora Blazing so it was with great anticipation I requested Chaos Reigning for review. Unfortunately, the third and final book in the Consortium Rebellion series wasn’t as successful for me as the first two. What I can’t tell is how much of my reaction was due to Covid-19 reading malaise. I have been, for the most part, over the past 8 weeks, re-reading – and I’m not really a re-reader. However, I’ve been seeking comfort with familiar favourites a...

REVIEW: Storm of Locusts by Rebecca Roanhorse
Dear Rebecca Roanhorse,
I purchased Storm of Locusts, the second book in your post-apocalyptic Sixth World series featuring monster hunter Maggie Hoskie, because I liked your debut novel and Storm of Locusts prequel, Trail of Lightning. I was also interested because the series is #ownvoices. As an indigenous author, you bring a fresh perspective to your novels and especially to their worldbuilding aspect. However, this one didn’t work for me and at 54% I am quitting.
The book begins with a fail...
