RESCUED BY A ROGUE

Chapter 1

Maven cursed her sister for the thousandth time. With plenty of alone time to dwell on her abandonment, the offense grew by the hour. Adding insult, the straps of her ill-fitting backpack pinched her shoulders, new boots rubbed her...

Fridday Midday Links: WriterSpace Hacked! Change Your Passwords!

Stampede. It is the first group coupon service for ebooks. Groupon and other group coupon sites (like Living Social) offer large percentages off of products if a certain number of people agree to participate in the deal. Stampede. It brings in a new wrinkle by having tiered pricing agreements with the price decreasing with increased participation:

$1.50 if just 20 people purchase the deal

$1 when 50 people purchase the deal

$0.75 when 100 people purchase the deal

Simone & Schuster participated ...

REVIEW: Addicted to You by Bethany Kane

Dear Ms. Kane:

For an erotic romance, this book had both smoking hot sex and great emotional connection between the characters. Where it falters is in the tacked on romantic suspense plot and the totally WTF opening scene. However, as an erotic romance, it definitely delivers. In fact, of all the books you've written this one reminds me most of Wicked Burn, my favorite Beth Kery.

Friday Film Review: The Sea Hawk

The Sea Hawk (1940)

Genre: Historical swashbuckler/romance

Grade: B-

[image error]Since Flynn's birthday is next week, I thought I'd review another of his Warner Brothers swashbucklers. Released in 1940, it bears little resemblance to the Raphael Sabatini novel of the same name. Instead, it was supposed to be a take on the war that had just begun in Europe with Spain standing in for Nazi Germany and England once again standing alone against tyranny.

English privateer Geoffrey Thorpe (Errol Flynn) and his...

REVIEW: The Wild Marquis by Miranda Neville

Dear Ms. Neville,

I had enjoyed your earlier book, The Dangerous Viscount, enough that I wanted to read the upcoming The Amorous Education of Celia Seaton. The rub was that I hate reading series out of order. What's an anal reader to do but backtrack and get the first book in the Burgundy Club series, The Wild Marquis? And that's exactly what I did.

[image error]The Wild Marquis begins with a murder. Joseph Merton's murder. Joseph is a bookseller, and he is swaying while approaching his room at an inn, ...

REVIEW: Just Like Heaven by Julia Quinn

Dear Ms. Quinn,

When Jane sent me the arc of your upcoming book "Just Like Heaven," I was torn. On the one hand, it's a Julia Quinn book and I've adored so many of your past books. On the other hand, some of your most recent books haven't worked for me. I think the last one I even tried turned out to be a DNF. "But," said my self, "It's a Quinn. And look at the back blurb – it's got Bridgertons. And Smythe-Smiths!" Well, that did it for me. As Lady Danbury says, someone's got to clap for...

Note from Hachette Regarding eBook Sales

As I mentioned previously, I had emailed Hachette about these concerns Ms. Carriger had posted about the underreporting of ebook royalties and how that may be harming authors. This was causing readers to think that they shouldn't buy digital. I received the following response (reposted with permission):

Dear Jane

Neil has passed on your email below, since it relates to Orbit author Gail Carriger, and I'm very happy to respond to your two questions.

We are, of course, delighted for readers to...

REVIEW: AJ's Angel by L.A. Witt

Dear Ms. Witt,[image error]

I foresee quite a few reviews of your books over the next few months as I work my way through your backlist. I discovered you through a review copy of a book of yours coming out in August (which will be reviewed on or after the release date), but I liked that so much that I hunted down your other books. This one intrigued me because of Jane's recent post about infidelity in romance and because I think tattoo artists are hot.

Seb is a tattoo artist. His ex-boyfriend Luke comes in ...

REVIEW: Misty and the Single Dad by Marion Lennox

Dear Ms. Lennox,

My first experience with one of your books was so successful, I've been bagging your backlist at eHarlequin. But for my next choice, I decided to go with this upcoming release. I mentioned in another review that I'm a softie for animals so when I saw that this book featured a heroine who feels the same way, it was a no brainer.

[image error]Teacher Misty Lawrence has always had big dreams of leaving her small hometown of Banskia Bay to see the world and have some adventures. But life has...

Tueday Midday Links: Go the F to Sleep

I received Go the F to Sleep in PDF form in two different email boxes. One in my Dear Author account and one emailed to me by a personal, non book friend. I knew when it had hit my personal inbox, that Go the F to Sleep had hit piracy levels that I hadn't seen before. Despite this, Go the F to Sleep, an irreverential bedtime story, debuted at the Number 1 slot on the New York Times last week even though it's official release date is today. The film rights were sold to Fox. And the...
